Chapter 999

Estelle ended the call after a few words, handed the phone back to Ms. Simmons, and went into the room to check on Kya, who was still sleeping, sweaty and flushed. Estelle touched her forehead, relieved to find she was no longer feverish.

Kya slept until dusk and woke up refreshed.

Emily rushed back, holding Kya and apologizing repeatedly.

Kya cupped her mother’s face reassuring her, “You should take care of grandma. I’m okay with taking my medicine. I’m not scared at all.”

Emily felt even more guilty, holding Kya close and looking at Estelle, “Thank god, you are here.”

“Not a big deal, don’t worry about it.” Estelle replied with a comforting smile.

Having been busy all day, Ms. Simmons was sent home early by Emily, who then went to cook dinner.

During dinner, Emily asked Estelle, “Kya mentioned a mister from the hospital, who’s he?”

Estelle paused before swallowing her food, “That’s Carson. He happened to run into Kya when he was visiting patients. We attended his engagement party before, so he knows Kya.

Emily casually asked, “How’s he?”

“He’s pretty good!”

After dinner, Estelle didn’t head upstairs, opting to sleep in the guest room instead.

Although Kya had taken her medicine and seemed fine, she unexpectedly developed a fever in the middle of the night.

Hearing the noise, Estelle got up and joined Emily in feeding Kya her fever medicine. Both of them stayed up with Kya, only catching some sleep once her temperature went down.

Emily got up early the next morning to make breakfast.

Seeing the morning light, Estelle frowned, “No need to cook breakfast, I’ll go buy some.”

“I’ll go. You stay with Kya and sleep some more.” Emily whispered, stepping out of the

room.

Kya woke up but didn’t have the energy she had the day before, refusing to eat.

Ms. Simmons came to help feed Kya her medicine, “You can go do your things, and I’ll stay with Kya. I know how to manage her medication.”

Estelle replied, “If anything seems off, call me. Emily is tied up at the hospital, but I can come back anytime.”

Ms. Simmons smiled, “Sure, I got it.”

Emily hugged Kya, “Be a good girl, take your medicine and you’ll get better, okay?”

Kya clung to her, “When I get better, will you be with me every day?”

“Sure, once you and grandma are both better, I can stay home with you every day.” Emily said softly.

Kya finally smiled a little, “Can I visit grandma then?”

“Of course!” Emily smiled warmly.

Kya hugged her, “Then mom should go be with grandma, I’ll get better on my own!”

Emily felt teary at Kya’s maturity, hugging her for a while before handing her over to Ms. Simmons and leaving with Estelle.

In the afternoon, Charlie, after attending a bidding meeting, was passing by Sunset Ridge on his way back to the office. He asked the driver to pull over and bought some fruits to visit Kya.

He had been worried about Kya since he left yesterday, and even thought about calling Estelle in his anxiety. But he felt it might be inappropriate, so he held back.

Today, passing by here, his urge to see Kya was stronger than ever.

When he arrived, it was Ms. Simmons who opened the door. He could hear Kya crying inside and his face changed instantly, “What happened to Kya?”

Ms. Simmons was glad to see him and quickly explained, “Kya has a fever again. I just gave her some medicine. She’s probably uncomfortable and has been crying.”
