Chapter 1013 A Path

Mandy opened her mouth to speak but found her throat tightening up, at a loss for words for a moment. Fortunately, Amelia, who had been with her for years, already knew what Mandy was thinking. Amelia stepped forward and embraced her. “With so many guests today, let’s talk later,” Amelia said with a gentle smile. A few of her friends from mercenary also smiled and nodded at her. Regaining her composure, Mandy took a deep breath and walked to the stage, holding Jack’s hand. “Thank you all for coming to my birthday party today. This is quite a surprise for me.” Mandy graciously addressed the crowd. She then walked to the champagne counter, picked up a glass, and, with a bold and carefree smile, announced, “Since we’re all here, let’s party!” Music filled the air, and everyone began to dance to its rhythm. Many guests brought gifts to wish her a happy birthday, and soon, a pile of

presents accumulated at her feet. After thanking everyone for their kindness, Mandy pulled Jack aside. “When did you become so skilled?” Caught off guard, Jack had thought Mandy would ask about when he planned all of this. He hadn’t expected her to focus on his abilities. Jack pointed to Hunter, not far away. “Even though the issue with Bruce has been resolved, I kept hiring him to train me.” Mandy was surprised by the extent of Jack’s commitment. She knew of Hunter’s remarkable skills but also of his inflexible nature. Hunter wouldn’t go easy on Jack just because he was the employer. If anything, he’d be even stricter.

No wonder Jack improved so much. “But…” Mandy glanced toward her senior fellow Amelia, a hint of unease on her face. Understanding her thoughts, Jack softly reassured her, “Over the years, they’ve always been keeping an eye on you. When I approached them, they didn’t hesitate to agree to celebrate your birthday. Perhaps you’ve just been putting too much pressure on yourself.” Under Jack’s encouragement, Mandy finally gathered the courage to walk up to Amelia and her senior friends, hand in hand with him. “It’s been a few years, and you’ve grown so much,” Amelia stepped forward, taking Mandy’s hand with a pleased smile. It had been a long time since Mandy felt such unease, but this particular unease made her feel incredibly happy. “How have you all been these past years?” Taking a deep breath, Mandy voiced the genuine concern from her heart. The smile on Amelia’s face deepened. “We’ve been good. But Mr. Campbell…” “What happened to him?” Mandy’s heart raced, looking anxiously at Amelia. With a heavy sigh, Amelia responded, “Three years after you and Bruce left, Mr. Campbell… Passed away in an accident.” Mandy’s heart slowly sank. Deep down, she had suspected something. She had caused quite a stir in the organization over the years, but Ronnie never once reached out to her. Initially, she thought Ronnie was mad at her because of the incident of Emma. But upon reflection, Ronnie wasn’t that type of person… She just didn’t want to think too deeply about it. “When Mr. Campbell left…” Mandy spoke with difficulty, always remembering

that when she was at her wits’ end, it was the master who came to her rescue. Although from then on, she embarked on a path she had once avoided, it still gave her hope to carry on.
