Even though they were some distance apart, it felt as though no one could come between them. Mandy lost count of how many times she had been drenched in sweat and then dried. All she knew was that she felt like a fish in the ocean, sinking and rising, yearning for air yet intoxicated by it. The next day, Mandy woke up with a sore body. The slightest movement made her realize something was amiss. She turned to look at her fingers and noticed a large diamond ring on her ring finger, not knowing when it had been put there. Being well-acquainted with jewelry, Mandy instantly recognized it as a highquality natural diamond with a price exceeding seven figures. Even with Jack’s hefty salary, it wouldn’t be easy for him to afford such a luxury. Just then, Jack entered with breakfast. Seeing Mandy had noticed the ring, he smiled and asked, “Do you like it?” Mandy raised an eyebrow in surprise. “How are you so sure I’d accept your proposal?” Jack shook his head. “This ring can mean whatever you want it to. If you’re willing, it’s our engagement ring. If not, consider it a birthday gift from me. Either way, it won’t bind you to anything.”
