Dr. Garie smiled and said, “Perhaps you’ll have a dream on the plane back home and remember everything from the past.”
Charlotte smiled in response.
Upon learning that Charlotte and Joe were leaving, Evelina also felt a sense of reluctance.
She tightly held Charlotte’s hand and earnestly said, “If you ever have the time, you must come and visit us.”
Charlotte nodded solemnly. “I will, for sure.”
The day after the treatment ended, Joe and Charlotte flew back to their home country.
After disembarking from the plane, Charlotte instinctively looked around but didn’t see any sign of Ben or Anna.
“Were Ben and Anna… not coming?” Charlotte furrowed her brow and asked Joe.
Joe shook his head. “They have an important performance at school today. Did you forget?”
Charlotte then remembered that Ben and Anna had mentioned this performance about a week ago. They couldn’t make it to pick her up.
A sense of disappointment washed over Charlotte.
Upon realizing she had unintentionally forgotten about her two children, she was determined to make it up to them. She had even shipped a whole box of gifts for them.
But she never expected that both of her children wouldn’t have the time to come and pick her up.
After a moment of fleeting dejection, Charlotte regained her composure. “Well then, let’s go.”
Watching Charlotte, who had mustered her strength to hide her disappointment, Joe couldn’t help but smile faintly. He followed Charlotte into the car.
After driving for a while, Charlotte began to sense that something was amiss.
“Isn’t this the way back to the estate?” Charlotte furrowed her brow and looked at Joe, who smiled without a word.
It wasn’t until this moment that Charlotte slowly realized, “Where are you taking me?”
“I’m taking you to see the holiday resort we’ve built,” Joe explained with a light smile.
Seeing his radiant smile, Charlotte temporarily suppressed her curiosity.
The two soon arrived at the holiday resort. When Charlotte saw the brightly lit resort, she furrowed her brow and asked Joe, “Did we… experience an earthquake before?”
For some reason, when Charlotte saw this holiday resort, another image suddenly flashed in her mind.
A holiday hotel collapsed right in front of her, crashing down the cliff.
A hint of delight crossed Joe’s eyes. “You remembered? We did experience that scene before.”
Charlotte nodded thoughtfully. “I only vaguely remember some parts, but it’s not very clear.”
“It doesn’t matter. Remembering is a good thing,” Joe stopped the car and extended his hand to Charlotte after opening the car door for her.
Charlotte smiled helplessly and placed her hand in Joe’s.
Hand in hand, they entered the lobby of the holiday resort. The resort, which had just been brightly lit, suddenly went dark.
Charlotte let out a soft exclamation, and Joe immediately wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
“Happy birthday!”
A huge cheer erupted along with the lights, and Charlotte was astonished to see everyone smiling at her.
