Chapter 799 No Matter the Place, No Matter the Cost
Ulrik didn't give Sylas a single glance, he might as well have been air. Instead, his target was very obviously not Sylas, but Nyssa herself.
Or so it seemed.
He could have come to confront her at any time, but he chose to do it at right this moment while Sylas wasn't unconscious, but was rather very much present.
That was on purpose.
Only a toddler would think it to be any different.
Ulrik came to a stop just two meters from Nyssa's back and simply waited there. He didn't say a word, he didn't have to. Nyssa knew what she should do.
On cue, Nyssa turned to face the Thryskai genius, an amiable smile plastered on her face.
"Is something the matter?"
Ulrik's lips parted almost too slowly, looking as though it was lagging behind a frame or two. He seemed to over-indulge in the feeling of the world hanging on his every word.
"It seems that you want to stand opposed to me?"
Nyssa blinked in confusion. "I'm not sure what you mean?"
Ulrik looked Nyssa up and down.
Obviously, targeting Sylas out in the open wasn't something that the Thryskai could do. On the surface, Sylas had done nothing wrong at all, and he hadn't even won the Ancient Aether Treasure either.
All things considered, Sylas hadn't done anything wrong. He joined an open contest, and competed fairly. He was the sort of genius that should be cherished by the city of elites, not ostracized.
This was part of the reason why Nyssa could take such a risk to openly protect Sylas. Functionally speaking, he hadn't broken any rules and he was only guilty of offending the Thryskai.
This might be a good enough reason already for the Thryskai to kill him, but it wasn't a good enough reason to do so openly and brazenly… which was exactly what they would need to do now.
Most important of all, this wasn't truly the fury of the Thryskai in action. Instead, it was the fury of one middling genius of the Thryskai and a District Head of a small corner of the Skai Galaxy.
These things were not the same.
"I'm quite sure you do." Ulrik continued to speak just as slowly, the wrinkle in his forehead wiggling just the slightest bit as though in naked threat.
Nyssa didn't respond, her face an adorable mask of confusion. Her head tilted to one side and she swayed to the tips of her toes, her hands clasped behind her back as though leaning forward to try and hear Ulrik better.
She was truly a great actress. One would have never thought that there was a single thing wrong with what she had done at all.
However, Ulrik was also used to dealing with this woman.
"As for whether this gamble of yours will pay off, I think we're all aware that there could only be one result. I also wonder how your mother will react once she's heard of your deeds here this last week."
Nyssa's gaze flashed with a hint of coldness, but it was well hidden.
Ulrik continued to scan through the region, looking through everything but seemingly Sylas himself as though anything else was more interesting.
"What I can say as of now, though, is that after all the effort you've spent trying to climb social ladders and wiggling your way into the arms of the most powerful young men of the Skai Galaxy, for you to inevitably settle here…" Ulrik's gaze landed on Nyssa. "… It truly is a shame."
There was little more humiliating for a man than to hear of their woman's exploits. Ulrik had still not given Sylas a glance, but every one of his actions seemed to target a spearhead right at him.
Whether it was hinting at Nyssa's promiscuity or the fact she settled for him, there was little that could be more of a strike right to the heart.
And yet, Sylas still didn't reply.
He stood there in silence, his gaze relaxed as he looked toward the Thryskai. He didn't lose focus a single time, nor was he swayed into ignoring Ulrik's inaction with his own.
The coldness in Nyssa's eyes deepened. She was no Erythra, no matter what persona of hers she chose to don. Ulrik was clearly slandering her, and for what? Because he had once been one of her candidates for a target as well?
Nyssa's smile faded completely.
"… There are some things that I will not tolerate, Young Master Ulrik…"
"I'm not sure what you mean." Ulrik replied lightly, returning the young woman's words to her.
Nyssa felt herself fuming inwardly, but her expression soon returned to its adorable countenance.
"There's no need to worry about this jealous man, hubby. I'm confident that you will prove the world wrong very soon."
Even now, Sylas didn't say anything. It was clear that Nyssa was being measured with her words, and only vaguely daring to go at Ulrik. If not for this, there were many more biting things that she could have said, things that would have been far worse and would have directly impacted the Thryskai's ego.
But she wasn't willing to go so far just yet. Not for a man who wasn't yet her official husband.
Even in such a case, though, such a woman was likely too much of a snake in the grass to possibly take on such heat for a momentary spurt of hatred.
"Hubby?" Nyssa blinked, looking up at Sylas' profile.
Ulrik ignored the interaction between the two. Instead, he just gave the somewhat pale-faced Voxena a glance.
She stepped forward.
"This teleportation platform is now under maintenance. Shut it down." When she began to speak, her posture became more confident, pressing down the things she had experienced and grasping the opportunity right before him.
Nyssa's expression changed and her head snapped back toward the Thryskai. Unfortunately, she didn't get the chance to say more, at least not before Voxena spoke again.
"Unrelated to this matter, young elite Sylas Grimblade is suspected of having stolen the Secrets of the Thryskai. He will be put under arrest and investigated for his usage of the Thryskai's Rune Armor--effective immediately." Voxena stood to her full, proud height. "Guards!"
Everything was happening too fast. Even Nyssa hadn't accounted for this, but that was because unlike the Thryskai, she didn't recognize the Will pressuring Runes that Sylas had used.
It was all over. Had Ulrik waited on purpose? Forcing her to waste so many Hero Points like this?
That sum wasn't a small amount. Even the District Head had felt the pinch of 10 billion, let alone her. The only reason she could afford it was because Alchemists and Healers made mind-boggling amounts of money--and she had also mortgaged no small number of assets...
Her face turn an ashen white as she tried to think of a way out of this.
But it was at that moment that Sylas' lips finally parted.
He spoke out words that were quite soft, and yet reverberated through the depths of space, splitting the laws of the world and forcing them to coagulate in its own form of chaotic Rune shifting.
Swirls of blackened energy took shape and an oppressive might appeared from above as the words reverberated.
By the time they had truly settled in… Sylas was nowhere to be seen.
As for his words…
"The next time I see you—no matter the place, no matter the cost… I will take your head."
