Chapter 197 - No Honor Among Thieves
Chapter 197 - No Honor Among Thieves
Shortly after gazing at Ligma Bawles's dead body for a moment, Albion turned to the wolf-girls and asked, "Do you think what I did was wrong?"
Despite being startled by Albion's ruthlessness, the Fenrira and Fenriri quickly shook their heads.
"No, Master! Such an evil person definitely deserves death!" Fenriri said.
"Yeah! Even our Iceborn Wolf Tribe does not stoop so low! Master is a good person!" Fenrira added shortly after.
"Good person?"
Albion chuckled and shook his head before saying, "I am not a good person. I've said it before, and I will say it again. I am a very bad person."
"Nevertheless, a person cannot be defined by good or bad. A good person can do bad deeds, and a bad person can do good deeds. I am just me," Albion stated.
Fenriri wrinkled her small brows before asking curiously, "Then why does Master say Master is a very bad person?"
"Because it is easier to just generalize things. It's what people do. We like to generalize things and keep them simple—like nature and how things should be in the world. However, it is not because humans are complex," Albion stated profoundly.
"Put a man in nature, and he will live a simple life. But if you put a man in throngs of humans, and he will live a complex life. This is because we, as humans, as people, are affected by our environment."
"I don't understand, Master," Fenrira's brows crumpled together before she asked, "How did we come to this topic?"
"What I'm trying to say is that since two will be living in human society, you should not just look at the surface of things and assume it as such. In other words, don't just trust anyone's words," Albion stated.
"Does that mean that we shouldn't trust your words easily either, Master?" Fenriri asked.
The two wolf-girls gazed at Albion intently and awaited his answer before Albion cracked a smile and nodded, "That's right. So you can understand it as such."
"A righteous man's words cannot be trusted easily, let alone the words of mine—someone from the underworld. Remember, there is no honor among thieves," Albion said.
That being said, if the wolf-girls could not trust, who else could they trust when they are all alone in the middle of human society?
Shortly after, Albion clapped his hands together.
"Alright. You don't need to understand all of it now, but do keep my words in mind," Albion stated before he said, "Now, we will go fetch our ride and head to the Glacia continent."
"Yes, Master!"
"Yes, Master!"
The wolf-girls were immediately excited to return to their Iceborn Wolf Tribe.
They quickly caught up to Albion and followed him obediently as they departed the scene shortly after.
Not long after, a person lurking in the corner of a building appeared before sending a message to an unnamed contact number on her smartphone via SMS.
…
In the corner of another building, Ceone and Cetwo also peeked at Albion's departing back before communicating to each other.
"Report; the target is leaving, Ceone."
"Noted, Cetwo. We will follow the plan."
"Affirmative."
Shortly after, the two regulators disappeared from their location and followed after Albion from a distance like sneaky spies.
…
Silvercove City, Abestel family's estate
After the complete destruction and collapse of the hill, Chief Waiyu ordered the police officers to carefully searched the ruins for survivors.
A police officer approached and reported with a respectful salute sometime later.
"The search has been completed, sir!"
"And what are the results?" Chief Waiyu inquired.
"We were unable to discover any of the family heads and their hunters, nor the Abestel family's forces. However, we found numerous strange puddles of blood and a dangerous lingering substance within the mix," the police officer reported.
Chief Waiyu frowned and ordered, "Show me."
"Yes, sir!"
Shortly after, a stone box was brought forward before the police officer continued his report, "Due to the corrosiveness of the substance, we were unable to store it in anything metallic nor wooden."
The stone box was promptly opened before the green substance was revealed.
"Sir, it is very corrosive and invasive! Some men were forced to amputate their hands just because of a simple touch!" the officer warned.
Chief Waiyu was immediately startled before he retracted his hand and refrained from studying the green substance.
"Since that is the case, have those men sent to be treated. Then, have the men seal off this area and call over the investigation team to study this green substance," Chief Waiyu stated before turning to Sum Gai.
"Officer Sum, I am putting you in charge of this area," Chief Waiyu ordered.
Sum Gai was immediately stunned.
"A-Are you really putting me in charge here? I don't know about that one, chief. There are so many more qualified Senior Officers here for the job," Sum Gai spoke humbly before adding, "I don't think I am suitable for the job."
"If I asked you to do it, then it means I have faith in your abilities—so just do it when I tell you to," Chief Waiyu stated firmly.
Shortly after, he further explained, "Since the battle ended over here, I will be taking all the Senior Officers with me to assist our men on the Silvercove Beach's side."
"Understood, chief."
Sum Gai patted his chest and nodded solemnly, "If it's like that, then I will do my best to live up to your expectation!"
"Don't make it sound so serious."
Chief Waiyu casually patted Sum Gai's shoulders and said, "It's just a minor job. But, nevertheless, I believe you won't fail me."
"Alright, I'm leaving now," Chief Waiyu stated.
Shortly after, Chief Waiyu rounded up the Senior Officers and half of the regular officers before departing the area.
The place eventually became quiet with fewer people.
Sum Gai gave an indifferent glance at the ruins before his eyes narrowed with a flicker of green light.
'Don't worry, brother. I will send more people to join you soon.. Even if you are gone, I will not let the thieves take your city,' Sum Gai silently swore.
