Chapter 416: 416: Abyssal Power

Blood wolves were creatures of level twenty, like the five trolls, with the exception of Duo Sa, whose power had reached elite boss status. Yet, by worshipping the Book of the Abyss day and night, the trolls had unintentionally absorbed some Abyssal Power.

This power, visible as a grey aura constantly swirling around them, formed a layer of tough armor. The wolves’ biting and clawing could not break it.

Simultaneously, the trolls’ attacks were laced with the same grey energy. Once unleashed, this Abyssal Power could deal significant damage to the blood wolves. It granted the four trolls—each of equivalent strength to a level twenty creature—the power to crushing blood wolves of equal level.

Duo Sa, who already possessed the prowess of a level twenty boss, had grown even stronger, almost reaching the threshold of a level twenty lord. If allowed to continue worshipping, he would inevitably break through to become a level twenty lord—it was just a matter of time.

Not having a large space to fight in the underground cellar, the attack of the blood wolves was quickly blocked by the trolls. Wine casks were shattered, filling the tavern with a heady aroma. Traces of evaporating blood on the floor marked the spots where blood wolves had been slain and returned to the Blood Pool.

Though the five trolls had managed to kill thirty blood wolves, they were not unscathed. The wolves’ persistent attacks may not have dealt much damage but slowly whittled down the trolls’ Abyssal Power. Despite maintaining a fierce demeanor, their wounds and harsh breathing told a different story.

“Human, your defenses are down. Leave now, and we’ll spare your life,” Duo Sa suggested, his crimson eyes streaked with traces of black energy that spider-webbed out of his sockets.

Although eager to tear Song Jian apart, Duo Sa couldn’t ignore the intimidating aura that the human released.

Without the Abyssal Flame, the Book of the Abyss—although still a treasure to the Abyssal Clan—was incapable of reopening the Abyssal Gate, a passage between this world and the Abyss.

Duo Sa and his companions had to rekindle the Abyssal Flame using the Power of Faith. Picking a fight with a human as powerful as Song Jian was out of the question.

“Once the Abyssal Flame is revived and the Abyssal Gate opens, this world will grovel at the feet of the Abyssal Clan. This human, too, will become a slave to our clan. We must not rush,” Duo Sa thought to himself.

Song Jian chuckled. The blood wolves’ battle had shown him the true power of the five trolls. With the exception of Duo Sa, if it hadn’t been for the Abyssal Power, they would have been devoured by the wolves.

“Abyssal Power, huh? I have that, too,” Song Jian said, grinning. With a thought, black, flame-emitting armor appeared on his body.

This was a special ability of the Abyssal Raging Flame, a Fourth-tier Demonic Flame. It could generate Abyssal Flame Armor to enhance the user’s abilities.

“Such a strong Abyssal aura… could you be…” Duo Sa stammered, his face one of surprise. Seeing Song Jian’s strong Abyssal aura, he became disorientated.

Just then, Song Jian’s Crimson Fire Heart Ape Sword radiated an intense golden light. The overwhelming Divine Power sent Duo Sa recoiling and retreating in shock.

“Divine Power…impossible!” Duo Sa bellowed, unable to believe that both Divine Power and Abyssal Power, usually diametrically opposed, could coexist harmoniously within a single being.

“Impossible!” Duo Sa roared, absorbing the dark gray aura seeping from the Book of the Abyss.

His body began to swell and grow, skin torn apart by rapid muscular growth, revealing bloody gashes. This torturous pain made Duo Sa howl in agony, but these wounds were healing at visible speed. The newly grown skin had a metallic shine, covered in small scales.

Duo Sa’s stature grew to almost three meters—Song Jian looked like a child next to him.

As soon as his growth came to a halt, Duo Sa seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. He felt an endless power coursing within him, bringing him closer to the Abyssal Clan.

Duo Sa roared, flashing his sharp teeth at Song Jian, and released a monstrous aura. Even his companions couldn’t help but step back in fear.

“Light Strike!”

Song Jian, initially planning to eliminate one of the regular trolls first, swiftly changed his mind and targeted Duo Sa instead. A brilliant golden Sword Qi slashed toward Duo Sa.

Abyssal Breath!

Duo Sa opened his mouth and exhaled a gray storm of breath, directly colliding with the golden Sword Qi.

With a loud boom, the golden Sword Qi, like a sharp hatchet, cleaved through the Abyssal Breath and struck Duo Sa’s forehead.

“Bang!”

A damage of over 14.00 points floated above Duo Sa’s head. His massive body was flung back and crashed into a wine rack a few meters away. All three casks on the rack shattered, burying Duo Sa in a pile of wood chips and wine.

“Impossible!” Duo Sa gasped, his roar echoing from beneath the pile of debris. He couldn’t believe that he was no match for the seemingly insignificant human in front of him.

Staggering to his feet, Duo Sa seized the Bone Wolf Fang Staff and bellowed at Song Jian, “Kill him!”

The four other trolls exchanged glances before their gray Abyssal Power erupted, and they launched themselves at Song Jian.

“Abyssal Power? But mine seems to be stronger!” Song Jian raised his left hand, creating a black flame in his palm. A cunning, cold grin spread across his face.
