Therefore, aside from feeling a bit disappointed that he was busy, Vicky did not notice anything amiss. However, with both Harvey and Noah pointing out the subtlety, Vicky realized that she had been too naive.

That night, Vicky lay alone on the king-size bed, staring at the ceiling until dawn.

“Cece, Vicky, I just landed a major client… Let’s go out tonight, my treat!” Jennifer, who had just entered the studio, happily presented the contract she had already signed.

In the past few days, she had secured several significant clients which gave her a strong sense of accomplishment.

Cece shot her a look, then cautiously glanced in Vicky’s direction.

Somehow, Vicky had fallen asleep with her head resting on the table.

Lately, Vicky has been in a terrible state. Although she never said it out loud, both Cece and Jennifer could tell that Vicky was in a bad mood. That was precisely the reason why Jennifer wanted to treat Vicky and help her relax.

Seeing that Vicky was fast asleep, Jennifer gently placed the contract back and whispered, “What’s been going on with Vicky lately? She’s not focused at work and has been zoning in and out of it… Did she have another argument with Mister Hart?”

Cece lowered her voice. “Probably… Mister Hart hasn’t come to pick Vicky up in a long time, and he hasn’t sent her flowers in a while either.”

Jennifer thought of Anthony, so she couldn’t help but snort disdainfully, “All men are the same!”

“Has Anthony been in contact with you recently?” Cece asked.

Jennifer pursed her lips. “Apparently, his precious little lover is ill, so he hasn’t got the time to bother me. I didn’t see it before, but now I think they’re quite compatible. They belong together.”

“But didn’t you say his parents disapproved of Lily?”

“Yeah, even though Lily is a hypocrite, she did save Anthony. I dont know why, but Anthony’s parents have always looked down on Lily. If Anthony’s father didn’t hold some degree of power over him, Anthony would have gone ahead and married Lily.”

Cece studied Jennifer’s expression. “Jennifer, are you really… over him?”

Jennifer’s expression froze for a moment. “It’s easy to say that I’m over him, but you need to know that we grew up together. Besides with this whole Lily thing… He’s always been good to me… My mom and dad used to tell me that I’d be Orion’s bride…” She forced a bitter smile. “It can’t be that easy to let go now, isn’t it?”

“Don’t you plan on fighting for the relationship?” Cece asked.

“I tried, but I can’t sum up to Lily… More precisely, I can’t fight against Anthony’s obsession.”

Cece was stunned. “Obsession?”

“Yeah,” Jennifer said hesitantly. “Anthony’s parents were always seen as the loving couple, they’re the root of everyone’s envy. Yet, his father was always distant and inexpressive by nature. I only agreed to give my relationship with Anthony another try because his mother came to speak with me. Anthony’s mother fell into a coma after trying to save him from an accident. At that time, Anthony’s father went hysterical and resented his son, forbidding him from getting anywhere near his mother. That accident affected Anthony greatly. After that, his father told him that his mother did not belong to him, and that

he would eventually meet someone who would give her life for him. That person would be the one that belongs to him.”

She sighed. “He met Lily when he was sixteen, he thought that she was his destined love and became obsessed with her. His mother told me that what Anthony feels for Lily isn’t love, and that he would eventually get past the obsession to see what he truly wants.”

Just then, Vicky’s voice rose. “If he loses the obsession, does it mean that he will no longer feel anything for Lily?”
