When Yves spoke to him, his tone was cold. “You can refuse. Nobody’s forcing you

Sean felt a surge of frustration in his heart,

He was sorely tempted to fling the paper and pen in Yves‘ face and assertively declare, I refuse. However, he understood the consequences of such rash actions; if Joshua were to suffer any harm, all the effort he had put into his transaction would be

vain

It was not an option

“Could you possibly reduce the amount?” He began to negotiate with him, his tone unusually civil. “One billion in other currencies?”

With a swift motion, Yves snatched the paper from his hand.

He sauntered away lazily, evidently uninterested in continuing the conversation.

“I’ll sign!” Sean found himself comered.

“Ten seconds left. It’s void if you ran overtime.” Yves handed back the paper, still half–asleep.

Sean seethed internally

One day, he vowed, he would make this guy cough up everything he had swallowed.

His signature found its place on the document amidst an array of grievances and emotions. To ensure that he would not back out, Yves handed him a small box of seal paste. “Press your fingerprint on

here.”

“I’m not going to renege.”

“Three seconds.”

Sean sighed in exasperation. He had not been this emotional in a year.

Reluctantly, he pressed his fingerprint into the seal paste, resolving to recoup this lost money from Joshua.

“Don’t you know what kind of person I am? Sean handed over the signed and fingerprinted paper. His voice tinged with emotion. “When have I ever failed to fulfill a promise?”

Yves barely glanced at it before stating, “I don’t trust you.

Sean groaned inwardly.

“The patient you’re here to save is inside, and he’s in a serious condition. Follow me,” Sean informed him.

“Hold on,” Yves responded nonchalantly.

Sean’s brows furrowed. What was he planning now?

Yves did not reply, instead holding up the paper and waving it toward the outside.

Following his gaze, Sean looked outside.

Just as he was wondering who could possibly command such treatment from Yves, he spotted Cynthia alighting from the driver’s seat. Her demeanor was not much different from before.

Sean looked at Yves. “Cynthia? Why did you bring her here?”

Yves ignored him, expressing a clear disdain for wasting time with unnecessary words and went out to Cynthia

Cynthia glanced at the paper in his hand, then swept a quick look at Sean’s face, which had resumed its usual composure. She asked, “Did you sign?”

“I did.” Yves passed the paper to her. “Keep it safe.”

Cynthia took it gave it a quick once–over to ensure there were no mistakes, then stowed it away.

This sequence of actions puzzled Sean. He cast Yves a questioning glance. “Are you two…working together?”

Again, Yves paid him no mind.

He headed inside without a word, cutting straight to the chase. “Where’s the patient?”

“Are you working with Cynthia? Sean persisted.

Yves’s response was indifferent. Despite his seemingly nonchalant demeanor, he was all business. “Are we treating the patient or not?”

That comment brought Sean back to reality.

He swallowed hard, his gaze flickering between Yves and Cynthia, Eventually, he managed, “Follow me.”

Yves, fully prepped and parbed in scrubs, went to the operating room under Sean’s guidance.
