Chapter 337: Ch.336 Ambushed
Although the interior of the building was in an Amazonian style, it appeared far more luxurious, with almost all the decorations made of golden metal rather than the white stone favored by Amazons.
Under the high dome, the group moved forward silently, with only the echo of their footsteps in the vast hall.
"It looks like, a long time ago, Atlantis and the Amazons had a pretty good relationship," Su Ming said while surveying his surroundings, quietly increasing his vigilance.
There were signs of activity here, which meant they could very well run into enemies—perhaps like the Homo Magi that the Justice League had previously faced.
"In history, our two tribes faced many cosmic crises together. Back then, there weren't any superheroes; protecting Earth was the responsibility of the gods," Diana explained to Su Ming, recalling the historical documents she had seen in Themyscira as a child. "But now, our relationship is closer than before, especially since everyone has access to the internet."
"Themyscira has internet? I didn't notice that last time I was there," Su Ming coughed dryly.
"Oh, that's because you didn't have a phone then. If you'd tried, you'd know Themyscira has WiFi coverage," Diana said casually, shrugging. While she kept the warrior customs alive, she also introduced many interesting things from human society to Themyscira.
"Atlantis has it too?" Su Ming asked Arthur.
"Underwater communication is a bit trickier. We have to connect the palace's quantum network to the Justice League's satellites, then link to the internet. But if you mean WiFi, then yes, Atlantis has it all over the city too."
Honestly, hearing terms like "quantum network" coming out of a rugged guy like Aquaman made Su Ming feel a bit strange.
"Alright, so you're ahead of Batman by quite a bit. Gotham doesn't have city-wide WiFi," Barry interjected as he curiously looked around. "Hey, there are some big jars up ahead."
Barry's figure flickered, appearing at the front of the group.
In the next hall, there were several huge glass jars standing like pillars, covered in a thick layer of dust, so it wasn't clear what was inside.
Barry approached one of the jars, wiping the surface with his hand to reveal what was stored within.
They were some kind of white-skinned creatures—though humanoid, their most prominent feature was a large mouth full of sharp teeth.
"This looks like a White Martian," Diana frowned. How could these violent creatures be sealed beneath Earth's surface?
Martians were divided into two types: the Green Martians, like J'onn, were mostly gentle and kind, though almost all of them had since died out.
The other type were the White Martians, nearly all of whom were evil and violent, with Miss Martian being a rare exception.
"They seem even more primal and feral," Arthur said, leaning in to observe the Martian in the jar.
Barry nonchalantly tapped on the jar. They must be specimens, right? Their eyes were closed, and it looked like they had been dead for hundreds of years.
"Hey buddy, you look really ugly. And you're in a jar...?"
The Martian inside the jar suddenly opened its eyes, smashing through the glass to pounce at Barry.
Su Ming had been on guard. These things wouldn't be locked here for no reason—this wasn't some kind of experimental facility. The most reasonable explanation was that they were the "security" of this place.
Barry managed to dodge the attack—the Speed Force had saved his life again. If that giant mouth had bitten him, Barry figured his head would've ended up in the creature's stomach.
White Martians had abilities similar to Green Martians. Despite being regarded as inferior as the defeated faction, their individual lethality far exceeded that of Green Martians.
But for Su Ming, they were just a bit more troublesome to deal with.
The opponent had just emerged from the nutrient tank and was clearly not in its best state. If Su Ming couldn't handle four Martians, where would his reputation go?
Su Ming immediately swung the Midnight Blade at one of them, while the other two faced off against the others. Only Barry seemed to be struggling—his Speed Force was unreliable again. Though he had dodged successfully, his hand-to-hand combat was only enough to knock them back.
Upon making contact, Su Ming realized his judgment had been wrong. These things only looked like White Martians; their power level and healing ability were far inferior.
It was like a new hybrid species resulting from the crossbreeding of Martians and humans.
Diana used her Lasso of Truth to ensnare one: "Tell me! What are you? Earthling? Amazon? Atlantean? Martian?"
However, the fanged creature only let out snarls, saying something resembling the word "you" in a strange voice.
"This isn't working, Diana." Arthur drove his trident straight through the head of one of the monsters, watching as it collapsed to the ground, slowly regenerating. "The best way is to slice them up."
"Or shred them."
Su Ming added with a grin. The monster in front of him had already been shredded—he had originally thought he'd be facing four Martian Manhunter-level enemies, but in reality, they were just four ordinary regenerators.
No combat skills, not even much strength—what use were these failures?
He quickly dealt with his opponent, letting it wriggle slowly on the ground. It would take hours for it to regenerate completely.
Next, he turned to help Barry, whose Speed Force was unreliable at the moment, leaving him to rely solely on his combat skills against the monster—not ideal.
Su Ming charged forward at high speed, his black sword cleaving the monster in half that had been grappling with Barry. With a backhanded strike, he quartered it. Swiftly sheathing the Midnight Blade, he drew the Godkiller blades, assuming a dual-wield stance.
He then started chopping it up on the floor like he was making minced meat.
Barry stood aside, a conflicted expression on his face. He didn't know what to say.
If these weren't Martians, then Barry had no reason to stop Deathstroke. But clearly, just preventing them from regenerating was enough—wasn't dicing them into bits a bit overkill?
In fact, Su Ming was just gathering information.
The extent of damage to these creatures' bodies and the speed of regeneration did not have a linear relationship. It was some kind of inverse function—the more damage they took, the slower they regenerated.
Gathering more intel on an enemy's regenerative speed was always beneficial for the future. Since there were four of them here, there could easily be more later.
And timing was always crucial to any strategy. The right time, the right place, and the right people were factors that every strategist had to consider.
Mastering those three things, all that remained was exploiting the enemy's weaknesses.
Aquaman's trident was incredibly sharp, and with his great strength, he pierced the monster's head and then slammed it down, smashing its head like a rotten watermelon. He then used his weapon to sever the creature's limbs.
He glanced over at Su Ming, who was mincing meat, and Barry, who was dazed.
He shrugged and went to help Wonder Woman, who was still trying to get information out of the creature. But the language was unintelligible—would they have to record it and get someone to decipher it later?
Diana mainly had too many doubts in her heart. She desperately needed answers—everything here seemed so strange.
After her attempts at forcing answers failed, she pounded the creature into a small paste with her fists.
"No answers, and even more questions," Diana said, standing up straight and adjusting her cloak.
"Then why not try asking me?"
A door leading to the deeper part of the building suddenly opened, and a large figure stepped out.
