Chapter 199  199. ACT {19}:-  Storm Falcons.

After watching both Orion and Lilith's fight against the huge gnomes, there were a few students who had given up on the idea of becoming the number one student.

These students knew that it wasn't going to be possible for them to replicate the same kind of attack as the top two students, and this feeling only increased after watching the remaining top ten students as well.

This was because Orion and Lilith weren't the only ones who were able to defeat the golems and mutts.

The rest of the top students did the same thing while others took a more tactical approach.

Now, everyone could see why the academy placed them as the current top ten students.

They certainly deserved to be at the top of the hierarchy at the academy.

But just when a few students were thinking that no one else could defeat the golems and mutts, they were shocked to see some other students defeating them just like the top students.

Seeing this, everyone suddenly began to believe in themselves.

They decided not to give up so easily and to work harder towards improving themselves.

After all, maybe, just maybe, they too would be able to fight and win against two hundred Rank Nine monsters.

These were the same thoughts that were circling everyone's mind.

Later on, the spectators noticed Orion and Aurora arriving at the aerial zone.

Just as its name implied, the aerial zone was a high-altitude area that had a floating landscape that was suspended above the clouds, and here, anyone could feel the powerful wind as it whipped across the rocky platform.

It was difficult to look around as well because fog and dust were in the air.

Orion and Aurora stepped into the first platform and they immediately felt the force of violent winds from all directions.

They also noticed large, swirling whirlwinds moving erratically across the platform with each one powerful enough to throw even the strongest beast off course.

The wind howled, and the whirlwinds in front of them constantly shifted; this made it nearly impossible for them to predict their pattern.

Orion and Aurora's current target was the maze in front of them. Orion tightened his grip on Aurora's harness and tried to figure out the safest path to go through.

Just like the rest of the zones he had successfully completed, Orion noticed that this particular maze had unpredictable obstacles as well. H

While he and Aurora continued to navigate the labyrinth, the two of them suddenly heard screeching sounds pierce through the wind.

Looking up, Orion could see storm Falcons diving towards them with outstretched talons. These birds were extremely territorial and they didn't like uninvited guests passing through their territory, hence why the falcons were attacking them.

The Storm Falcons had sleek, streamlined bodies and sharp talons and were very similar to the Falcons Orion had seen back on Earth.

The only difference between the two creatures was that the falcons in this world were a lot bigger than the ones on Earth.

The sound of electricity crackling could be heard as the falcons dived towards Orion and Aurora, letting out loud shrieks with the hope of disorienting the elf prince and his phoenix.

The dark grey birds blended in with the clouds and coordinated their attacks, but Aurora's keen senses helped her to react quickly to each of the falcons' movements.

However, the Falcons weren't going to give up so easily.

They made a combined assault of whirlwinds, but Aurora snarled and swatted at the falcons that came too close to her.

Lifting his head up, Orion realized that a lot more falcons were heading towards them from above.

He guided Aurora towards a low-hanging rock formation and used the chance to study his surroundings as he tried to find out where the portal was. The moment he discovered its location, Orion signaled to Aurora to move, and they launched themselves into the air while timing and calculating their movement to avoid very strong gusts of winds which seemed to be disrupting their movement.

The tournament officials were the ones responsible for the strong wind and when they noticed that Orion and Aurora were approaching the final stretch, the officials intensified the assaults by sending a powerful blast of wind that almost threatened to throw Orion off balance.

Orion stumbled, but quickly regained his footing again, and he urged Aurora to keep moving forward.

Meanwhile, the Storm Falcons had spotted them, and they made one last dive attack, trying to knock them out, but Aurora let out a powerful screech, and with a burst of speed, they pushed through the last set of whirlwinds.

A few minutes later, they finally arrived at the final platform with the portal to the next zone just up ahead, but as they passed through the portal, Orion and Aurora found themselves in the dark zone.

This zone had a chilly, eerie silence and darkness around it to the point that it looked like it was going to press down on them at any moment now.

They turned around once again and noticed that their surroundings were completely shrouded in darkness.

Although everywhere was extremely dark, Orion and Aurora could still see a pale blue mist coming from a certain direction.

In that direction, they could also hear the sound of someone whispering, but this whispering sound also seemed to be coming from every other direction

Orion glanced at Aurora and he could see that her senses were heightened. Aurora could sense danger in the darkness but the challenge in this zone wasn't just a matter of sight.

It was about perception, instinct, and having a clear mind.

The tournament officials had designed this zone to disorient the contestants, using illusions to test both the mental and physical endurance of the bond between beast master and tamers.

Orion and Aurora continued to move through the eerie darkness, they knew they had to find the portal if they wanted to leave the zone, so they continued to fly to the portal despite their pitch-black environment.

The initial pale blue light they had noticed was actually an illusion made by the officials to make it seem like the portal was very close, but the moment they got close to the blue light, Orion and Aurora realized the portal was never there, to begin with.

Moving on, they continued to search for the magical portal, but suddenly, shadowy figures began to materialize around Orion and Aurora.

They looked like mirror images of the two of them, but they were cloaked in darkness and they had hollow eyes.

These shadows mimicked their every movement as they tried to create confusion in Orion and his Phoenix's mind.

"Aurora, don't let them distract you," Orion said with a calm, commanding voice, and Aurora obeyed his words.

The two kept moving with synchronized precision, sidestepping the illusion and making their way forward while trying to ignore the shadowy figures that flickered and shifted around them.

As they pressed on, the illusion faded but another danger soon arose.

Orion and Aurora could hear the whispers in the air growing louder and forming unintelligible words that invaded their minds, but before Orion could react to this, a shape darted out from the shadows.

It was a stalking, nightmarish creature that seemed capable of blending seamlessly with the darkness.

The creatures were spider-like but with elongated limbs and faces obscured by wisps of smoke; this made it difficult for anyone to see their faces directly.

Orion sensed more than one of these stalkers encircling them and getting ready to strike.

They were very fast and could only be visible for a brief moment before blending into the dark again, but Orion and Aurora weren't really bothered by this.

Orion had been waiting for the right time to do this, and seeing that the number of spiders around them had increased, Orion decided to cast a light magic spell, shocking all the spiders as they tried to scurry away. But Orion didn't allow them to escape, so he immediately cast the spell and aimed toward the dark spiders.

A lot of the spiders were killed while the others returned in a rage hoping to end the elf who had killed their comrades.

They also attacked Aurora, but once one of the spiders launched itself at Aurora, she swiftly reacted by using her heightened senses and swiped at the creatures with her claws.

She caught a few of them mid-lunge and threw them back into the shadows.

Together, she and Orion fended off the spiders, their instincts perfectly harmonized while they continued to adapt to every encounter.

They faced off against the rest of the monsters within the dark zone and after a few minutes of searching, they finally found the portal they were looking for.

Orion and Aurora swiftly passed through the portal, signifying the culmination of the second round of the tournament.
