Chapter 303 Game Sealed
Chapter 303 Game Sealed
The match had entered the eightieth minute now and still, Lesica United had not been able to produce anything meaningful as Unique FC were still leading two goals to nothing.
Lesica United were by no means getting outclassed by Unique FC even after bringing on Merino, if anything, Lesica United were the ones outplaying them by a little margin but that wasn't going to do anything for them.
Okafor got hold of the ball and was about to turn with it when it was quickly swept off his feet by Frankie who had come on to replace Ferran just a few minutes after Minino replaced Carlos.
"Nicely done by Frankie," Jim commented.
The midfielder quickly got up from the floor with the ball glued to his feet and quickly pushed it to Minino.
"Minino."
Minino quickly took off with the ball and just before he could run into the Lesica United player heading his way, he quickly sent the ball to Fredinho with a through pass.
That pass seemed to have overhit the ball, so Fredinho had to run ahead and block it with his back heel, but that caused him to fall off balance and now he was in danger of losing the ball.
Two Lesica United players were already upon him but before they could do anything, the striker pushed the ball back to Mateo who quickly closed up on the area as soon as he saw the situation that he was in.
"Mateo gets close to make sure they don't lose the ball," Jim said.
The winger took the ball from the striker and quickly moved past the center backs to get into the box, and now he had a clear sight of the goal with the left back quickly heading toward it.
"Mateo's in the box and he has clear sight of the goalpost."
The left-back wasn't able to get to him on time with his slide as the winger released the shot toward the right side of the goalpost with just a little bit of elevation.
"Mateo!"
The goalkeeper dived toward the ball at that time and was able to push it out, but the rebound was set toward Merino who didn't hesitate to fire the ball back toward the goalpost but luckily for the guest side, the left back quickly stretched his leg at that time to block the ball and send it out for a corner kick.
"Two shots nicely stopped by Lesica United," Jim said.
"Yeah, but now they have a corner kick to deal with," Steve said.
Since Ferran was longer on the pitch, Minino had to step up to take the corner kick.
"If Lesica United aren't careful, Unique FC might just end up grabbing a third goal from them, from what we've seen so far, they're still hungry for a goal." Steve expressed.
After making sure that everything was set, the referee blew his whistle, but Minino didn't immediately go charging in.
He stared at the ball for a couple of seconds before he raised his gaze and slowly took two steps backward as he observed what was going on inside the box while trying to figure out the best ways to set up any of his teammates inside the box.
Instead of going deep into the box, he sent the ball a little closer to the edge of the box near the middle area where Frankie was standing waiting for the rebound.
The midfielder brought the ball down with his chest, and just before he could fire it toward the goalpost, he was pushed from behind, and which caused him to misplace the shot which everybody watched roll past the line for a goal kick.
Frankie quickly sat up on the floor and raised his hand to call for a foul, but the referee didn't pay any attention to it.
"He was definitely pushed there, but it looks like the referee's not going to pay any attention to it," Jim said.
"He could have scored from there if it wasn't for that push, it may have been intentional but I don't think it was that rough, maybe the referee doesn't see it as worthy to be called a foul." Steve expressed.
The match had entered the eighty-fifth minute now, and so far Lesica United had not been able to pull off another shot on target against Unique FC.
Out of frustration, Okafor tried a shot from outside the box, but that wasn't a problem for Dave as he watched the striker's effort float over the bar not even coming close to bothering him.
"Another wasted effort from Okafor," Jim said.
"It's almost over," Dave said before he dropped the ball on the edge of the box inside the eighteen-yard box.
<Yeah, but anything can....Oh, yeah, you already know that>
The goalkeeper responded with a smile before he sent the ball flying into the pitch toward the right side specifically toward Minino.
Minino won the aerial duel and quickly moved away with it before pushing the ball to Frankie who played a through pass to Fredinho.
The pass seemed to have been overhit as one of the center-backs got to the ball first and out of pressure, he sent the ball flying back to Unique FC's goalpost.
"Nice defending but he could have just pulled the ball back and passed it to any of his teammates, now he's sent the ball back to Unique FC to try again with the time about to hit the ninetieth minute." Jim expressed.
Dave had to move outside of his box with the ball as he was slowly checking out something in his mind.
'Merino is in a good position to make a good run and do something, but Mateo is being heavily marked, I guess they didn't know how dangerous he was until now.'
The forwards didn't want to rush in toward the goalkeeper because they knew he would quickly dispose of the ball before they would get to him but at some point, Okafor lost patience and quickly rushed in toward the goalkeeper, but before he could get to him, the goalkeeper sent the ball flying off.
The ball was sent flying toward Merino who quickly brought it down with his chest before he twisted away from the left back to get into the box but he wasn't able to shoot as one of the center backs quickly blocked his path.
His attempt to take the ball off the right winger with a slide failed as the winger quickly moved back with the ball before he found Mateo making his way into the box with the player marking him hot on his trail.
"The danger is still lurking around Lesica United's goal area."
Fredinho wasn't in a good position, so Mateo was the only one the winger could rely on.
Mateo got his foot on the ball and twisted the player on his trail left and right with fast and confusing movements before he quickly turned and sent the ball flying toward the goalpost with his left foot while the player was still in front of him.
"Mateo!"
Carlo dived toward the ball but he seemed to have misinterpreted the elevation of the ball as the ball ended up rolling into the goalpost from under his arm.
"It's in! What a magnificent strike from the youngster with his weak foot!" Jim exclaimed.
For that goal, Mateo had to go a little wild although it wasn't exactly his style.
He quickly rushed to the sidelines while screaming, and once he got there, he kicked down the corner flag breaking the whole thing into two.
"That's his hat trick, he's been looking for it all night long and now he has finally gotten it," Steve said.
The fans were wildly chanting now as Dave raised both of his hands with a bright smile on his face.
"It's over."
After the goal celebration, the referee had to show Mateo a yellow card for intentionally breaking the corner flag.
"As expected, a yellow card for Mateo for breaking the flag but I don't think that's going to bother him, they have the win in the bag." Steve expressed.
