Chapter 338

Just then, the police received a message on their phone, confirming that Celeste returned to the hospital at 1 AM and went home at 2 AM. The owner of the Bentley that took her to the hospital was the man standing in front of them.

The timeline matched up perfectly, and there was no evidence showing Celeste’s direct involvement in the violent incident.

“No big deal, just a routine inquiry.” Without any new leads, the questioning was pointless. The police said, “We won’t bother you any further.”

Skyler, seeing the police leaving without investigating, became anxious. “You’re just leaving without finding anything out?”

“Mrs. Reed, we understand your desire to catch the culprit quickly. We’ll continue to follow up on this case and contact you with any updates.”

Skyler couldn’t accept this outcome and angrily said, “You bunch of useless idiots!”

The police officer’s face changed. “Mrs. Reed, watch your language!”

Skyler glared at Celeste and stormed out of the room.

Celeste pressed her lips together and took a step forward. “I apologize for the inconvenience, officers. My mother can be quite hot–headed, but she means no harm. Allow me to accompany you out.”

Her tone was gentle, not at all like what Skyler described.

And who would think of putting a stone in their mouth and then slapping someone?

In the elevator, one of the police suddenly asked, “Isn’t she the lead actress in the first story of ‘Mastermind of Law?”

The other officer checked his phone and realized it was true.

“Is she just a really good actress?”

“I think that Skyler is even better at acting. Everyone says she’s virtuous and gentle, but she’s nothing like that. Even if it was her daughter–in–law who did it, I think it’s understandable. Her family member was beaten so badly, not fighting back would be too unfair.”

“Even you think it’s unfair.”

For the first time, David received flowers and was delighted.

When Celeste returned, he was holding the flowers, asking Steven the names of each type.

Steven patiently told him one by one.

Liam wasn’t in the room, probably visiting Kaylee. Celeste didn’t mind.

“Steven, are you a friend of the Reed family too?”

“I’m also friends with Celeste. She once saved my sister, and we get along very well.”

David smiled, “Since we’re friends, don’t always bring up saving people. I can tell you’re a good person, and I’m sure Letti thinks so too.”

Real pals don’t keep pressuring you with favors, the old man sees things really clearly.

They didn’t chat for long before Liam showed up.

Steven hung around for a bit, then said he had stuff to do and had to bounce. So David asked Liam to walk him out.

After leaving the ward, Liam asked, “Did you swap the surveillance video?”

“Surveillance? What surveillance?” Steven asked, puzzled.

Liam stared at his face, not letting any tiny expressions slip by.

But Steven’s face was super chill–couldn’t spot any cracks.

After a moment, Liam said, “Never mind.”

After leaving the hospital and getting in the car, Steven asked Nathan, “Is everything sorted?”

“Just finished, Mr. Reed went to check it out.”
