Chapter 223: Frozen city
Chapter 223: Frozen city
The tension in the air was thick enough to suffocate as the ground continued to tremble beneath their feet, sending shockwaves of fear rippling through the city. Damien's eyes darted frantically, searching for a solution in the midst of the impending chaos. He could sense Dravena's desperation and rage, knowing that she was about to unleash something catastrophic in her final stand.
As panic swept through the streets like wildfire, vampires scattered in all directions, fleeing from the impending danger. But even in her injured state, Dravena remained keenly aware of her surroundings, her senses razor-sharp despite the chaos unfolding around her.
However, she wasn't going to let this happen. With disdain glaring in the form of red eyes, she spat with venom.
With a voice laced with venom, Dravena's command cut through the cacophony of panic, demanding the attention of every vampire within earshot. "Everyone within this city, listen carefully. No one moves until they hear a loud boom. This is my final order, this is a lord's order!!" Her words echoed with authority, freezing every vampire in their tracks.
As much as the chaos was set in place, the moment she finished those words, the entire city went into a standstill. Not a single vampire could move from the spot they were at.
The weight of a lord's command immobilized the city, locking every vampire into place as they awaited the impending doom. Dravena's declaration plunged the already chaotic situation into deeper turmoil, leaving the inhabitants of the city trapped in a state of paralyzed terror.
The last order by a lord carried more energy than any other order they could ever give. Dravena had decided to use hers in the time where it was most dire.
Above the chaos, Damien remained unaffected by Dravena's command, his mind racing as he contemplated his next move. With the fate of the city hanging in the balance, he knew that time was running out to stop Dravena's destructive rampage.
The lord's order however only worked on vampires below the Lord rankings meaning Damien and most of the other vampires above the Lord rankings were safe from this order. However, the rest of the inhabitants of the city were frozen at their spot.
As the ground trembled beneath them, Dravena's laughter echoed through the night, her armor pulsating with an ominous red glow. With a sinister smirk, she taunted Damien, her voice dripping with disdain.
"At the end of it all, Damien," Dravena sneered, her tone laced with malice, "even when you rejected me for that wretched slut, we'll meet our demise together."
Her words hung heavy in the air, a chilling reminder of the impending danger. But Damien's response was unexpected. Instead of succumbing to fear, he erupted into laughter, his voice resonating with defiant amusement.
"Ah, Dravena," Damien chuckled, his laughter cutting through the tension like a beacon of defiance. "Your delusions know no bounds."
His laughter grew louder, echoing off the walls of the city as he met Dravena's mocking gaze with unwavering resolve. "You speak of destiny as if it were written in stone. But we are the masters of our fate, not prisoners to some preordained script."
With each peal of laughter, Damien's confidence swelled, his resolve unshakable in the face of Dravena's scorn. Amidst the chaos and uncertainty, he found clarity, a newfound sense of purpose guiding his every word.
Dravena's mocking laughter faltered, her expression contorting with disbelief as Damien's laughter filled the air. "It could have ended on our own terms," she seethed, her voice trembling with suppressed rage, "but you and the old hags on the council forced me down this path. Now it's you and I at the end just like the beginning,"
Amidst the chaos and the deafening silence that followed Dravena's words, Damien's gaze bore into hers. He spoke, his voice resonating with a calm confidence that belied the gravity of the situation.
"Do you think I fear death, Dravena?" Damien's voice rang out, cutting through the tense atmosphere like a blade. "There are many things I fear, but death is not among them."
His words carried a weight of conviction, a resolute defiance that refused to yield to the looming threat of mortality.
"As much as I yearn for transcendence," Damien continued, his tone measured yet resolute, "I would prefer to do so on my own terms."
He acknowledged Dravena's cunning, her calculated use of the last order, with a nod of begrudging respect. "Your manipulation of the last order was indeed clever," he conceded, his eyes narrowing with a glimmer of admiration. "But cleverness alone will not save you from the consequences of your actions."
With a steely gaze, Damien addressed the imminent threat posed by Dravena's unchecked power. "I could overpower you, force you to retract your words but knowing you, that would take time" he admitted, his voice tinged with a hint of caution, "and I fear that in my zeal to do so, I may lose sight of what truly matters."
A flicker of uncertainty passed across Damien's features, a momentary glimpse into the depths of his inner turmoil. "I refuse to be consumed by this thirst for your blood," he declared, his voice firm with resolve. "But make no mistake, Dravena. I will stop you, by whatever means necessary."
As Damien said those words, he went straight into action, a surge of icy energy pulsed through the air. Around the vast crater where they stood, he began to shape the frozen barrier, a towering edifice of crystalline ice that rose from the earth with an ethereal grace.
The wall ascended, its formidable presence casting a shadow over the desolate landscape, reaching heights that seemed to pierce the very heavens themselves. Layer upon layer of ice coalesced, forming an impenetrable fortress that stretched far beyond the confines of the castle, extending into the boundless expanse of the sky.
Dravena observed Damien's efforts with a mixture of curiosity and disdain, her crimson eyes ablaze with scorn as she surveyed the towering structure before them. She scoffed, her voice laced with derision as she addressed Damien's futile attempts to stave off the inevitable.
"And what do you hope to achieve with this feeble defense?" Dravena's words dripped with disdain, her gaze piercing through the icy barrier with an air of contempt. "Do you truly believe your wall of ice will shield us from the impending cataclysm?"
Her tone was mocking, a sardonic challenge to Damien's resolve as she questioned the efficacy of his efforts. In her eyes, his actions seemed futile, a futile attempt to defy the inexorable forces of fate that loomed ominously on the horizon.
