Chapter 243: Water broke?!!! (Bonus chapter)
Rose stood in the lavish penthouse, her eyes tracing the grandeur of the expansive space. The opulent furnishings and intricate decor were a sight to behold, yet despite the luxury, there was an oppressive heaviness to the air that left her feeling stifled and uncomfortable. Beads of sweat formed on her brow, trickling down her temples as she struggled to find relief from the oppressive heat.
Turning to Damien, she unleashed a torrent of frustration. "Damien, what is this?" she demanded, her voice laced with indignation. "I asked for somewhere warm and peaceful, not a sweltering sauna!"
Damien's brow furrowed in confusion. "I don't understand," he replied, his tone tinged with bewilderment. "This place was meant to be a sanctuary, a place where you could relax and unwind."
Rose's frustration mounted as she gestured wildly around her, the heat of the room intensifying her agitation. "Relax?" she exclaimed incredulously. "I'm practically melting in here!"
In a bold move, she reached out and grabbed Damien's robe, using it to dab at the sweat glistening on her forehead. "Look at me," she insisted, her voice bordering on desperation. "I'm burning up!"
What was wrong with this woman?! Damien squeezes his nails hard into his palms, holding back from ripping her to shreds just then and there. But looking at Rose and her bump, even the coldest of hearts would feel pity. He realized she wasn't herself.
Being her first time he could sympathize with her. Already her bump had gotten considerably big to the point that if they waited any longer in the vampire city, everyone would know she was heavy.
Damien's expression softened as he watched her, a flicker of concern crossing his features. "I had no idea you were feeling this way," he murmured, his voice filled with genuine regret. "I only wanted to provide you with the best..."
Rose's frustration ebbed slightly at Damien's genuine concern, but her discomfort remained palpable. "Well, this isn't it," she declared firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Determined to find a solution, Damien quickly sprang into action, his mind already racing with possibilities. "Let me make it right," he insisted, his voice filled with determination.
As Damien prepared to unleash his ice powers to cool down the stifling penthouse, Rose's voice cut through the air, halting him in his tracks.
"Wait!" she called out, her tone urgent yet strangely hesitant.
Damien turned back to face her, confusion etched into his features. "What is it, Rose?" he asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Rose hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with a whirlwind of thoughts and suspicions. Something didn't feel right, and she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that gnawed at her from within.
With a sudden clarity, a realization dawned on her – vampires didn't sweat from being hot. It was an inconceivable notion, one that flew in the face of everything she knew about her own physiology. And yet, here she was, drenched in perspiration, her body reacting in a way that defied all logic. The person who made her sweat last was Blake and that was during the act.
It was unusual to sweat because of the temperature. Yet, here she was sweating buckets without a cause. It certainly wasn't Damien's allure as she found him repulsive and annoying.
She cast a sidelong glance at Damien, her mind reeling with unanswered questions. What was happening to her? And more importantly, why?
Pushing aside her mounting concerns, Rose forced herself to focus on the task at hand. With a forced calmness, she addressed Damien once more. "I think I just need some freshly squeezed orange juice. Take care to do it by yourself," she declared, her voice steady despite the turmoil raging within her.
Damien's brow furrowed in confusion, but he didn't press the issue. Instead, he nodded in understanding, a flicker of concern crossing his features. "Of course, Rose," he replied, his tone gentle yet tinged with uncertainty. "I'll go fetch you some orange juice."
Rose watched as Damien hesitated for a moment, clearly taken aback by her request. It came as a shock to him that of all things, Rose would request for orange juice. Since when did vampires other than fooling humans while in the comfort of their homes request for orange juice? Whatever happened to blood?!
More so, the idea of the Prince of Ancroft fetching orange juice for someone seemed almost absurd, and yet here he was, obediently acquiescing to her wishes.
As Damien strode away, his frustration simmering just beneath the surface, he heard Rose's voice calling out to him once more. He ground his teeth together, resisting the urge to turn back and confront her. He couldn't afford to lose his composure now, not when everything hung in the balance.
With a clenched jaw and fists trembling with suppressed anger, Damien forced himself to stand his ground. "What is it now, Rose?" he bit out, his voice strained with barely contained fury.
Rose's response caught him off guard, her words cutting through the tension like a knife. "Water," she said simply, her tone urgent yet oddly calm.
Damien's eyes flashed with rage as he turned to face her, his patience worn thin. "Water or freshly squeezed orange juice? Make up your bloody mind, Rosaline!" he snapped, his voice laced with venom.
But Rose's next words stopped him dead in his tracks, the color draining from his face as her meaning sank in. "Water," she repeated, her voice trembling with emotion. "My water... it's broken. The baby's coming."
Rose looked around in panic, pain and sweat. What was this?! How come?! So many questions were needing answers.
In that moment, all of Damien's anger and frustration evaporated, replaced by a sense of overwhelming panic and dread. This wasn't part of his plan, this wasn't how things were supposed to unfold.
With a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, Damien realized that he was about to face a challenge far greater than anything he had ever encountered before. And as the reality of the situation washed over him, he knew that the true test was only just beginning.
