Chapter 1286  Terrifying Power Of The Rune Of Absorption (Part 3)

Through his spiritual senses, Evan soon located the Eldritch Energy scattered deep within the Eldritch Horror's body.

The moment he identified its position, he controlled the devouring vines, and the thorns embedded in the Horror's flesh sank even deeper, reaching the area where the Eldritch Energy resided.

Once the devouring vines made contact with the Eldritch Energy, the first pattern of the Rune of Absorption engraved on them glowed brilliantly, and the vines began to absorb the energy.

However, Evan quickly noticed that the vines were absorbing the energy at an extremely slow rate. Based on his estimation, it would take approximately five days to fully absorb all the Eldritch Energy within the Horror.

Evan frowned at this slow speed, but his expression soon relaxed.

'I have just inscribed the first pattern on my energy veins. Once I inscribe more patterns, the absorption speed of the vines will improve significantly,' He thought to himself.

Setting aside the slow speed, Evan shifted his focus to attempting something more significant—converting the absorbed Eldritch Energy into the energy of void crystals.

Time continued to pass, and even after five minutes, there was no significant change.

The Eldritch Energy remained unchanged and continued to convert into World Essence, which was the most basic effect of the Energy Devouring skill.

Frustrated but unwilling to give up, Evan considered engraving more patterns before giving the process another try.

Just as this thought crossed his mind, his expression changed suddenly. To his astonishment, a tiny fraction of the absorbed Eldritch Energy had turned dark purple, releasing an energy that bore a resemblance to void energy.

This transformed energy moved toward his core, and the moment it entered his core, Evan's mind buzzed briefly.

Insights related to void energy suddenly emerged in his consciousness, almost as though the energy had unlocked a hidden door in his understanding.

The process lasted less than a second, but when Evan checked his status window afterward, his eyes lit up with excitement.

---) Current Understanding of the Conceptual Energy of Void: 75.0001%.

Previously, his understanding of the Conceptual Energy of Void had been precisely 75%.

Although the improvement was minuscule—so small it could barely be considered an improvement—it was enough to excite Evan as the Rune of Absorption had succeeded in altering the nature of the Eldritch Energy.

"This Rune of Absorption is truly a completely broken cheat," He muttered to himself, his voice filled with a mixture of amazement and satisfaction.

Seeing that his experiment was successful, Evan immediately stopped using the Energy Devouring skill.

Closing his eyes once more, he directed his focus toward his energy veins, the pathways responsible for activating the Energy Devouring skill.

With his spiritual power surging, he began engraving additional patterns of the Rune onto his remaining energy veins.

The process was arduous, taking several hours to complete as engraving the Rune's patterns onto energy veins was far more difficult than inscribing them on his core.

Over the course of these hours, Evan successfully inscribed forty-three patterns of the Rune onto his energy veins, one more than the number currently engraved on his core.

Once he finished engraving the forty-three patterns, he decided to hold off on adding any further patterns until he reached Rank Four.

He deliberately avoided using potions to replenish his spiritual energy and continue the process, knowing that it was impossible to complete the Rune of Absorption through such a method.

The more patterns of the Primordial Rune of Absorption he drew, the higher the spiritual energy cost became.

For instance, if Evan's total spiritual energy was represented as 100 points, the first pattern of the Rune would consume one point, the second pattern would consume approximately 1.3 points, and so on. As the number of patterns increased, the energy cost escalated exponentially.

Over time, the energy required to inscribe even a single pattern would far exceed his total spiritual energy capacity.

After completing the forty-three patterns, Evan estimated that even with potions to recover his spiritual energy, he could only manage to draw two or three additional patterns before exhausting himself completely.

What's more, even if he successfully engraved those patterns, his body would be unable to handle the Rune's immense power.

Handling just one percent of the power from the forty-two patterns already tested his core's limits significantly.

For this reason, Evan chose not to continually replenish his spiritual energy to force the process further.

With the forty-three patterns successfully drawn, Evan opened his exhausted eyes and took a deep breath.

After contemplating for a moment, and with some hesitation, he activated 0.5% of the power of the forty-three patterns inscribed on his energy veins and used the Energy Devouring skill again.

However, what happened next was entirely beyond his expectations.

The moment he activated the Rune's 0.5% power, its overwhelming devouring force obliterated all the energy veins he had used as the base for the Rune.

The Rune's force did not stop there—it began consuming nearby energy veins as well.

Evan's face turned deathly pale, and before he could deactivate the Rune, its power began encroaching on the internal parts of his body closest to the energy veins.

Fortunately, before the situation could worsen, Anastasia intervened.

A dark, black energy enveloped Evan's body, halting the power of the Rune of Absorption, which was moments away from devouring him entirely.

The instant Anastasia suppressed the Rune's power, Evan deactivated it completely and immediately used his Death Transfer skill to restore the destroyed energy veins in an instant.

"Damn, that was dangerous," Evan muttered, his voice shaky as the lingering shock still coursed through him.

Anastasia, after ensuring through her spiritual senses that Evan's body was no longer in danger, asked with a frown.

"What exactly happened?"

Evan explained the entire situation to her, concluding with a sigh.

"My energy veins are far too weak to handle the Rune's power. Either I remove some patterns and weaken the power of Rune inscribed on my Energy Veins or I need to figure out a way to strengthen them before I attempt this again," He said.

"Strengthen Energy veins, huh..." Anastasia murmured thoughtfully. Her eyes gleamed with a knowing light, and a smile curved her lips.

"Lucky for you, I prepared something for my dowry that can help you."
