Chapter 318 - Yunjing

Chapter 318 - Yunjing

Chapter 318: Yunjing

“Get out of the way, get out of the way!” Yelling was heard.

The passersby on the road all moved to the side. Lu Mingshu looked back in curiosity, and all she saw was a luxurious carriage driving in, with two cultivators wearing the same uniform walking next to it, yelling, “Young Master is driving in, get out of the way!”

Some cultivators were angered by the actions and started protesting. “This is Yunjing! How dare you play tyrant over here?!”

A passerby went up to them, trying to calm them down. “That is the young master of Floating Cloud. Bear with it, the Nie Family is powerful.”

“Who the hell is the young master of Floating Cloud?” somebody asked in disdain.

“You do not know who he is?” The other party scrunched his nose. “You should at least know who the Nie Family is, right?”

“Of course, the Nie Family in Pinghu is a notable grand family of the world, right?” He rolled his eyes. “I know every young master of the Nie Family, but not this Floating Cloud young master.”

“Obviously. The Floating Cloud young master isn’t the Nie Family’s son, but son-in-law.”

“What the heck? Son-in-law?”

“Indeed. The Nie Family’s eldest daughter chose him. He looks like a million dollars and is extremely talented. Rumor has it that he’s at the peak of Purity Soul Realm and way better than the sons of the Nie Family.”

“Wow, where is he from?”

“Erm... I have no idea. He’s a mysterious person.”

Two passersby started to discuss, but someone else interrupted; “Hmph! What do you mean by ‘Floating Cloud young master’? He is just an alien who has no right to be known as a young master!”

There was another voice that opposed; “Nonsense! The Floating Cloud young master could not possibly be an alien.”

“Yeah, someone who is an alien would never be the son-in-law of the Nie Family.”

“I agree. Moreover, he’s in the Purity Soul Realm. Which alien could do that?”

“He is speaking without proof, ignore him!”

Lu Mingshu and Yan Wugui exchanged glances.

Both of them had been in this world for days, and they started to understand this world more.

Here, people were divided by seals. Those with seals on them were known as true humans since they were the authentic younger generations of the world’s forefather, while those without were people from different races, and it was unknown where they actually came from.

The true humans were born with soul energy, and when they reached a certain age, there was a very high chance that their seal would be excited. But for the aliens, it was difficult to cultivate because of inborn factors. Adding on the fact that they were marginalized, it was hard for them to get stronger even if they did successfully train their soul energy.

With such a big difference, a hierarchy was formed, and the aliens were at the bottom of it.

In such a huge city, the aliens had a relatively better life. Many aristocratic families would choose talented or strong aliens to teach. If they performed well, they could escape from poverty and be promoted to a housekeeper.

This was the best situation an alien could get in their life.

In contrast to the aliens who were having a hard time, fighting hard for their survival, the true humans were in euphoria.

With seals at birth, they did not need much work to activate them, and more than half were able to become cultivators. After that, they would only need to register with the government to get resources every month.

Even if they failed to become a cultivator, tough jobs like the ones slaves did were still not done by them. The aliens would take on all menial jobs.

In conclusion, blood ties were what determined their life.

This so-called Floating Cloud young master was treated so grandly, so of course not many would believe that he was an alien, and he likely wouldn’t be.

However, this had nothing to do with the Lu Mingshu duo. They left the place soon after to search for an inn.

“Don’t you find it weird? It’s indeed harder for us compared to the barbarians to get started, but our speed of cultivation is obviously faster than them.”

Lu Mingshu nodded her head slowly. The barbarians’ strength was inherent because of the blood relationship, but because it was so strong on its own, it was hard for them to break through to the next realm.

After reading the Ji Family’s Soul Congealing Secret Art, Lu Mingshu realized that the true humans were very similar to the barbarians. They activated their soul energy to cultivate, and the reason behind why the true humans could perform such an action was unknown to them too. In short, even if the true humans and barbarians were not from the same roots, they were similar existences.

At the same time, they found out from Ji Zhenzhen’s memory that the Freezing Spirit Realm in this world, which was equivalent to the Spirit Realm in their world, was considered god-like.

“If the aliens are like us, it isn’t their fault that they can’t cultivate well. The exciting of soul energy doesn’t apply to them!”

“Yeah,” Yan Wugui said half-heartedly as if he was in deep thought.

While talking, both of them found an inn.

Because of the Sea of Cloud’s debate, Yunjing was crowded. Thus, the better inns were all packed.

Lu Mingshu knocked the front desk and asked, “Are there any more rooms left?”

Yunjing was the capital of this world, so a lot of powerful cultivators had been here and was nothing new to the shopkeeper. “Yes, how many will be staying?” he asked in monotone.

“Two people. We would like two high-class rooms.”

The shopkeeper flipped through some papers and looked up at them, plastering an apologetic smile on his face. “I’m so sorry, the high-class rooms are full. We only have two normal rooms left.”

“That’s okay.” She was fine with anything, and Yan Wugui was not the type that bothered about simple things. He was more than grateful just to have a place to stay.

“May I have your entry passes please?”

After checking them, he called out to a clerk to bring them to their rooms.

While walking past the corridor, Lu Mingshu suddenly stopped outside the reception hall.

The room was filled, and everyone was talking loudly about the Sea of Cloud’s debate.

Being talkative, the clerk smiled widely and turned to Lu Mingshu. “The Sea of Cloud’s debate is being held soon, and it’s the hottest topic in Yunjing right now! Miss, you’ve come from another place to watch the fight, right?”

Lu Mingshu smiled.

The waiter felt encouraged and continued, “This Sea of Cloud’s debate, I heard that many have sent their best....”

Soon, they reached their rooms, but the clerk continued on happily.

Lu Mingshu gave him a Soul Pearl. “Thanks.”

The waiter was elated and became even warmer. “That’s right, in half an hour, you guys can have a meal. Our full roasted goat is yummy, young lady, please don’t miss it. I am on the first floor, if you need anything, just shout.”

“Sorry for the inconvenience.”

She closed the door, then asked, “What are you thinking about?” There was no reply.

Yan Wugui came back to reality. “Oh, I was thinking about the Sea of Cloud’s debate.”

The so-called Sea of Cloud’s debate was similar to a tournament. It was held by the government triennially, and the participants were placed into three different ranks, where they would receive three different treatments.

But what was different from a mere tournament was that it was related to taxes. For example, Ji Xulin was from Bell Woods, so if he won the debate, the amount of tax citizens in Bell Woods would need to pay would change according to his performance. The higher the rank, the less they would have to pay, and he would get rewarded too.

In other words, the champion from the debate would benefit their family, mainly in terms of the aristocratic families’ fights. Thus, the unhappiness between many families would be reflected in the competition.

“Such a great idea.” Yan Wugui clapped. “Having them settle their unhappiness during the debate can allow them to live in peace. They would not need to be against each other daily, and this serves as motivation too. Such a smart idea.”

Lu Mingshu nodded. “They might be biologically like the barbarians, but they’re way smarter.” The barbarians did not have that many ideas, they were just straightforward and loud, nothing else.

“I heard that the top three will get some huge rewards. What do you think about that?” Yan Wugui wiggled his eyebrows.

“They would have to have an audience with the emperor though. Do you think he couldn’t tell that our seals are fake?”

“...” Yan Wugui sulked. “What a pity.”
