Chapter 115: Leaving for Kanto Region
Sandgem Town, a small town with sandy beaches and filled with the scent of the ocean.
Professor Rowan’s Laboratory is the landmark of this small town, where he conducts research on Pokémon. Because of this, it’s also an excellent transit point for Trainers from other places.
Terrance, having traveled by boat from Snowpoint City to Canalave City and finally arriving at Sandgem Town, is now preparing to board a large cruise ship bound for the Kanto Region.
Terrance’s purpose for this trip is to find a way to help Ralts. In his hands, he held an S.S. Ticket voucher, a generous gift from several Breeder teachers, saving Terrance a great deal of effort.
Over the past year, Terrance didn’t have to worry about Pokémon food. Through various events, missions, and trial grounds, Terrance accumulated a substantial amount of credits, which were mostly used to enhance the strength of his Pokémon, as well as to obtain medicines and exchange for rare resources.
As for personal savings, excluding some sent to the Old Green House, Terrance only had some reserves.
However, for this long trip, he depleted all his credits, exchanging them for tradable items.
“A big cruise ship supported by the Pokémon League,” Vouchers like Terrance’s S.S. Ticket are akin to “coupons” distributed by corporations to build good relationships with various talents.
The cruise ship Terrance is about to board, heading to the Kanto Region, is of a corporation supported by the league. Although not directly affiliated, their interests are closely linked.
Checking out the cruise ship, Terrance estimated that this is probably the most luxurious one he has ever been on. It boasts a massive pure white hull adorned with various seemingly precious ornaments.
“Getting a ticket for this cruise might not have been easy,” Terrance smiled, unsure of the scale of the S.S. Ticket handed to him by those teachers.
After observing for a while, Terrance noticed that many of the guests arriving for this cruise were elegantly dressed, either nobles or promising young individuals, or Trainers who rarely indulge in the luxury of a comfortable cruise.
After passing through security checks, Terrance successfully boarded the luxurious cruise with the help of S.S. Ticket. Compared to the ordinary ship he took to Lilycove City or the one to Sinnoh, this luxury cruise offered Terrance a different experience.
Firstly, the facilities were comprehensive. Secondly, the hall was like a huge party and banquet hall, where people of various statuses chatted and laughed. Free food and drinks were available, making Terrance admit that frequenting such places would undoubtedly broaden one’s perspective.
Additionally, whether intentional or sincere, everyone here admired Trainer battles. Conversations among groups of people always touched upon recent outstanding Trainers, Gyms, and the upcoming League Conference.
People of similar status naturally gathered together. Within a few hours of boarding, the hall gradually became lively—tourists, Trainers, rich second generation, and the nouveau riche… small circles started to form.
Of course, this wasn’t absolute. Terrance, for instance, quietly wandered alone in search of food.
With the mindset of not wasting anything, there were quite a few people like Terrance who took advantage of the free food and drinks. They were thick-skinned trainers who didn’t care about the judgmental gazes of others.
This situation persisted until late at night, then under the lights, a formally dressed middle-aged man took the main stage and politely bowed to everyone.
“Everyone, thank you very much for your continuous support for the Pokémon League. To add some fun to this otherwise dull journey, we’ve prepared a 3-day entertainment event. We welcome everyone to enthusiastically participate. There are numerous exciting prizes awaiting you, so please look forward to it.”
“The event schedule will be announced on the big screen shortly. Please choose your favorite events to participate in or watch. Let’s make this journey lively. I wish you all a happy time ahead.”
Applause erupted, and everyone became excited, even Terrance found himself instinctively glancing over.
The event details were announced, and the staff distributed a list to each person, providing detailed explanations of the events.
“I thought there would be battles…” Terrance chuckled nonchalantly. If there were battles on the ship, it could pose some risks in case of unexpected incidents.
As for restricting Pokémon types and moves, it would be too troublesome. It seems the manager of the cruise ship really didn’t have that in mind.
Aside from the conventional battles, these events seemed relatively simple, focusing on entertainment and spectator value.
“Huh…Shooting competition, requires Water-type Pokémon, Water Gun move. The first-place prize is a Water Stone.”
Shaking his head, Terrance continued reading. He didn’t have Water-type Pokémon, so this event wasn’t relevant to him.
As he kept reading through them one by one, Terrance occasionally frowned. There were a total of eight events, and he didn’t have strong opinions on participating or not. However, the rewards for these events were indeed quite generous.
Considering his lineup—Beautifly, Swablu, Misdreavus, Growlithe, and Ralts he brought with him—Terrance looked for an event that suited him perfectly.
Dodgeball!
This event involves using a machine to fix Pokémon on a platform. Machines surrounding them will forcefully launch miniature tennis balls from all directions. The frequency and quantity of balls launched will increase over time, creating a game where Pokémon has to dodge them.
In the first round, within a span of 3 minutes, the two Pokémon that get hit the least number of times advance to the next round. In the second round, the two participants who successfully advanced have their Pokémon compete on the same platform, dodging balls. The side standing last will be declared the winner.
“That’s it…” Terrance happily smiled upon seeing this event.
This was practically tailor-made for him. His Pokémon had undergone similar training before. If it was this, Terrance was confident in trying to win it.
As for the reward…it was an accessory made from the scales shed by Luvdisc…
“Heart Scale, a good experimental material.” It was a delicate work of art, but in Terrance’s eyes, he directly ignored its outward appearance and saw the essence of the item. Heart Scales, shed by Luvdisc, are a rare material for Breeders who enjoy experimenting with various medicines.
Moreover, these items are very beautiful and, due to their rarity, the subtly shimmering, colorful, heart-shaped scales have become a favorite accessory for many wealthy individuals.
“This is it.” Terrance nodded in satisfaction; it was also a form of money.
For the Heart Scale accessory, he decided to participate in the dodgeball event and compete for the win.
