Chapter 441: With ease

At that moment, Shane prepared himself for the King serpents’ wrath, while looking at the lightning orbs that released the lightning which had been stored within it.

Shane had no intention to be lenient with the King serpents, but he was still glad that he knew about the high electricity resistance King serpents had.

Otherwise, he might not have used the lightning orbs, in fear of destroying their eggs, which would have sent hundreds of king serpents in a berserk state.

This was something he had to avoid at all costs, and Shane found that he was doing well right now.

He had used the knowledge about the arch-enemies of the King serpents that were in fact, thunder emperor eels to his advantage.

Because of that, they had a high electricity resistance as the King serpents had been forced to evolve naturally, adapting to the dangerous surroundings.

In the end, their electricity resistance was also the reason for Shane to be forced to purchase more than 50 lightning orbs owing to the fact that it could be extremely high.

This was exactly the case, and Shane couldn’t help but feel pleased to have prepared for the worst-case scenario.

Through this, the high-frequency bombs had been used first, only to further thicken the seal of vines and roots.

Shane knew that his wood and nature affinity were not strong enough to prevent the King serpents from breaking through the barrier he had created, but given their current state, even Overlords were bound to be utterly confused, and unsure of what had happened.

If he was fortunate, there might not have been a single beast that had seen him steal the egg of a King serpent.

This was unlikely, but still possible.

Unfortunately, his hopes were destroyed when Shane heard the roar of hundreds of King serpents only two minutes after he attacked them.

On one hand, this was much later than he expected, but on the other hand, it was a lot less than he had hoped for.

Despite that, Shane had continuously transferred mana from the Hidden Paradise towards his mana pool, which he had used to thicken the wall of vines and roots.

‘With the nature affinity activated to strengthen the wall of vines and roots, the King serpents should need a minute or two to break through…I guess?’

This was his estimation, and Shane was correct with it, but there was something he hadn’t seen before.

Further away from him, there was a second entrance!

It was only a small entrance, but it didn’t take long for a batch of 20 Overlord King serpents to emerge from it.

The moment they saw Shane, the king serpents knew that he was the culprit, who had caused everything.

As such, they slithered towards him with no hesitation at all.

Manifesting a stream of jets from the water, they shot them towards Shane, who could barely manifest the Invincible scimitar, to block the attacks.

This flung him away several meters, terminating the wood and nature affinity he had activated to thicken the wall of vines and roots.

Shane was flung away several meters but he quickly got back on his feet, only to realise that the King serpents had already surrounded him.

The circle in which they swarmed around him was extremely large, and it gave Shane enough time to activate his spatial affinity to create a spatial portal at the position he was currently in.

Even if the King serpents knew that Shane was extremely fast because he had been able to steal their egg, they hadn’t realised that he, in fact, had a spatial affinity.

After he had manifested the first spatial portal, Shane activated the [Space Jump] ability in order to move further away.

At the same time, he used the flippers as well as his entire physical strength to put as much distance as possible between himself and the King serpents.

Yet, after the fourth jump through the spatial portal, he looked around in order to see whether he was in pursuit, or Umbra and Viridy were being chased by the serpents.

Fortunately, they were following him which allowed Shane to feel that his entire plan had worked out.

‘As long as they don’t get their hands on Umbra and Viridy the mission will be solved in no time!

That was quite easy…’

Despite feeling that the mission was easy, only two minutes later in which more than ten manifested spatial portals that had led him back to the cavern entrance, Shane was surrounded by hundreds of King serpents.

This should have worried him, and it would have if he didn’t have the passive ability [Hunter’s mind] that calmed his mind.

It allowed him to think with a clear head, which made him release his darkness affinity with a tremendous amount of mana.

During the last two missions, Shane hadn’t used much mana. Instead, he had stored up more of it into his soul world’s energy storage.

With this mana, he could now play around which he did without further hesitation.

In a matter of seconds, the entire surrounding area was filled with a shroud of darkness, preventing the King serpents from seeing him.

They could only try to use their perception to sense Shane’s mana fluctuations.

However, that was easier said than done because the wetsuit Shane was wearing was activated, making it almost impossible to sense his mana fluctuations the moment he stopped releasing mana to empower the darkness affinity.

This meant that he couldn’t be found as long as the darkness shroud persisted.

Under normal circumstances, out in the open, the darkness shroud would disperse in no time once the mana supply was cut off.

Yet, because they were deep underwater, this didn’t happen, and even the King serpents’ normal movements were not enough to disperse the shroud of darkness.

Shane could only smile perceiving this, and his movements were reduced to the bare minimum.

He had only to be careful of highly perceptive King serpents that might remember where he had disappeared to.

As such, Shane focused on the [Earring of sensation] which he hadn’t made use of before in recent times. The earring increased his perception and other senses, including the sense of hearing.

Through this, he could hear the serpents much better than anyone else while the ripples inside the water were quickly perceived by Shane.

Using the information that reached him, Shane could prepare in advance and only concentrate on making subtle movements to avoid being eaten alive.

In the end, he had thought that the mission would be more difficult to complete compared to acting and moving around as he was doing right now.

He had expected Umbra to be pursued, and that he would have to rush to his soulbond’s aid, but that was far from happening.

Hundreds of King serpents were swimming through the darkness shroud at a rapid pace, trying to catch him, only to bump into each other.

They restricted one another and Shane could only shake his head as he took out the remaining lightning orbs, which he activated before using the spatial affinity the moment the chaos was at its peak.

Shane hadn’t expected that time would run out so quickly, but he had almost finished his mission, and it was now time for the lightning orbs to do their jobs.

Smiling lightly, he fled from the central point of the released lightning, hoping that he wouldn’t be hit by the currents.

‘Let’s return to Umbra.’
