Chapter 109: Apex Tower
Chapter 109: Apex Tower
Due to Erica's unexpected generosity, Xu Feng reluctantly exited the apartment as he made his way toward the elevator.
As he waited for the elevator to ascend to his floor, Xu Feng read an email from the school regarding his absence from the school competition.
Apparently, multiple students had filed a complaint officially against him for not showing up and directly causing them to lose miserably.
'This school is indeed one shameless piece of crap!' He scoffed inwardly.
As if his absence was the actual cause of their losses. In fact, even if he showed up and gathered as many points as possible, their school would still lose.
Why was that?
The answer was quite simple. His fellow teammates were all a bunch of spoiled rich brats who only got in because of their connection and not because of their skills.
Hence, no matter how hard he tried, the blame would be placed upon him regardless of when they lost.
And of course, the glory of victory would naturally belong to their contribution, excluding him— the poor student with no background whatsoever.
'This Dean Qiao loves to kiss the spoiled brat's shoes and blame me. Then I shall kindly accept his generosity and repay this favor tenfold.' Xu Feng exclaimed inwardly, fixed his glasses, and entered the elevator.
As the elevator closed upon pressing the lobby button, a malicious smile could be seen hanging on his face.
Sometime later, Xu Feng arrived at the lobby, and he was astonished by the sight of the scene.
"Hey, I want to rent an office. Money is not a problem, okay?"
"Do you even know what corporation is behind my back? How could you say there's no vacant space left?"
"This is outrageous! Don't you have many upper floors available? Just use them to let us rent. Our corporation isn't lacking anything!"
Numerous shouting and complaints were being echoed through the lobby.
What made it astonishing was that these people were trying to spend money but were unable to, which was their main reason for distress.
The poor employees here could only smile bitterly and try their best to explain that there was nothing else they could do.
From afar, Xu Feng saw an employee was literally being chided to no end, but could only nod their head repeatedly while apologizing.
'It seems like these corporations are finally realizing the charm of the skyscraper.' Xu Feng thought to himself.
The skyscraper's actual name was Apex Tower—renowned for its unparalleled technological infrastructure and luxurious amenities, making it the prime location for corporations aiming to establish a strong presence in the booming VR market.
However, the most important factor was that the tower boasted cutting-edge facilities, such as state-of-the-art VR immersion labs, equipped with proprietary technology for the most realistic and immersive virtual experiences.
If a corporation wished to quickly catch up with others in the shortest amount of time possible, then they would require technologies and equipment offered only to those located in the Apex Tower.
After all, the Apex Tower had been developing in the VR Market since the start of its construction and could be said to be the pioneer of ushering in a new era.
As Xu Feng continued to walk around the lobby, he finally realized something was amiss. He forgot that such a scene shouldn't be happening.
'Why do these corporations suddenly want to rent an office here?' He furrowed his brows, having a bad feeling about this.
Fixing his glasses, Xu Feng walked to a nearby employee.
"Please, sir, our Apex Tower is currently full, and can't afford to rent out any office spaces." The distressed employee quickly said in a hurry, mistaking Xu Feng for another representative from a corporation.
"Uhh, apologies Miss, but I'm a tenant here." Xu Feng smiled awkwardly. He then took out his phone and opened up his credentials to prove his words.
When the employee saw the credentials, she realized her mistake. She quickly bowed and apologized, "Sorry, Sir, how can I assist you?"
Seeing her rigid behavior, it was quite evident that she was nervous and afraid of offending a tenant.
With the current circumstances, anyone capable of being a tenant only meant one thing— they had a high status.
Of course, Xu Feng was merely a pretender and got lucky in his timing to become a tenant before this mess.
Glancing at her name tag that said Giselle, Xu Feng nodded his head.
"Giselle, what's with the commotion in the lobby?" He asked confusingly.
"Ahh, it's like this. Rumors started to spread that the Zhao Enterprise was beginning to tackle this new VRMMORPG… Divine World. These corporations got wind of it and wanted to rent our office space which was the ideal choice for those who want to venture into the VR world." Giselle quickly explained the cause.
"The Zhao Enterprise?" Xu Feng was taken aback.
If he recalled properly, the Zhao Enterprise didn't enter this early.
So what caused it to happen?
'Was it some bastard that's too free in their own time and pushed this decision forward? Just why would they want to enter the Divine World with so many resources as a gamble? What made them so confident?' Xu Feng couldn't comprehend the reason.
But he could comprehend how much of his plans needed to be pushed forward now that so many corporations were hopping on this bandwagon.
"Is there anything else you need, Sir?" Giselle asked once she noticed Xu Feng was keeping silent.
"Nothing, thanks for the heads up." Xu Feng smiled and gave her a 100-dollar tip. The information she gave him was worth at least that much.
Meanwhile, Giselle's face lit up upon receiving such a big tip for such an insignificant help. She bowed in 90 degrees and thanked him while Xu Feng exited the lobby.
Once he exited the Apex Tower, Xu Feng was stunned by the sheer number of people waiting outside and talking on their phones, most likely to their superiors about the result.
'Fuck that decision maker in the Zhao Enterprise.' Xu Feng cursed vulgarly in his mind, wanting nothing more than to strangle them.
