Chapter 83 Boss (1)
Chapter 83 Boss (1)
?Liam couldn't fly but he could send the Black Tarthear Needles flying.
He didn't expect them to be of great use but every bit of advantage was welcome. He wielded the Black Steel Halbert in one hand while rushing forward, throwing several Black Tarthear Needles at the five-meter-tall target.
It was difficult to miss the target, but that hardly mattered since the Black Tarthear Needles' poison was not highly effective against the Shedim Champion Boss.
If there was any effect at all, Liam couldn't detect it.
Nonetheless, he didn't stop throwing the Black Tarthear Needles. But he stopped triggering their effect to save on Arcane Power while continuing to throw more and more needles at the Boss Monster.
At first, the Shedim Champion Boss thought that the needles were the Lumina Needles. It closed its eyes tightly instinctively in response to the Black Tarthear Needles and the dazzling light that would momentarily blind it. However, that was a fatal mistake.
When the Shedim Champion closed its eyes for the second time, Liam threw the Black Steel Halbert high into the air. The Halbert shot through the air and it impaled the Lesser Demon easily.
A roar of pain and astonishment reverberated through the surroundings. However, that was the only thing that happened. Blood gushed out of the twenty-centimeter-deep wound that had been inflicted by the Black Steel Halbert that was still stuck in the Boss Monster's chest.
Liam had precisely aimed at the largest rotten spots of the Boss Monster's chest and every single needle had hit them accurately. His attack had been a great success even though the Lesser Demon was not yet dead. In fact, it was far from dead.
It was injured, enraged, and targeting Liam with its uncontrollable wrath. Liam understood that but he couldn't really bother about it. He was more focused on the Arcane Kunai which he had willed to detach from the blade of the Black Steel Halbert before it impacted, piercing into the Boss Monster's flesh. Meanwhile, the Arcane Kunai hovered in the air, a little above the Shedim Champion's head, unmoving and waiting for Liam's commands.
A green liquid trickled down the blade of the Arcane Kunai but that was not something anyone seemed to have noticed until now. Liam was taking a deep breath while staring at the enraged beast that towered above him. It was not even thirty meters away from him and could attack Liam at any moment, but it didn't.
Liam's shoulders were tense as he anticipated the attack that never came his way. Furthermore, the Arcane Power consumption of his Arcane Kunai began to trouble him a little and he felt that the Shedim Champion may actually instinctively be able to tell that time was Liam's worst enemy.
Thus, he had to make use of the preparations he had completed with the vast majority of his remaining Arcanium, even if it was a little earlier to enact the plan than he had intended to.
[350 Arcanium have been consumed to upgrade the Lesser Relic ?Arcane Kunai?from ?D+? to ?C-?]
[150 Arcanium have been consumed to temporarily engrave the ?Petrification Poison Rune(A+ Rank)?on the Lesser Relic ?Arcane Kunai?for the following 30 minutes.
[?Arcane Kunai?-Lesser Relic/Circleless C- Rank-
Description: The Arcane Kunai is a weapon with many unique properties. It was forged in the maw of a dying Drake using the Essence of a Blackleara Swordfish. It can be bound to one Source of Arcane Power which can precisely control the Relic in a radius of 35 meters as long as enough Arcane Power is supplied.
?Rune?: Petrification Poison Rune (Basic)
-Will disperse in 30 minutes-
Remark: The Lesser Relic can be upgraded up to the ?1st Circle D Rank?using Arcanium.
Remark 2: The longer the distance to the Relic, the higher the Arcane Power consumption upon usage!]
Liam knew that the Arcane Power consumption would increase drastically the moment he added a temporary engravement on the Arcane Kunai. The stronger the weapon he desired to control, the harder it would be to actually control it. The Arcane Kunai's strength wouldn't change much upon getting upgraded. What changed, however, was the range of control and the consumption rate of Arcane Power. It would decrease because a better distribution system of Arcane Power would be implemented into the Arcane Kunai in turn as more possibilities would be unveiled with the increase of its rank.
However, with the additional engravement of the Petrification Poison Rune, which was a powerful rune that petrified everything it touched…or cut in Liam's case, things changed a bit.
The consumption of his Arcane Power increased by more than three times in an instant. That meant he couldn't control the Arcane Kunai for more than three minutes at a stretch.
Either the battle against the Shedim Champion had to end before that, or he would have to have gained a big enough advantage to not need the levitating Lesser Relic to win anymore.
He willed the Arcane Kunai to cut the Shedim Champion's wings and neck. The fact that the Boss Monster could fly was the most annoying, so that had to be taken care of as soon as possible.
Liam continued to throw Black Tarthear Needles until the Shedim Champion ignored them. Instead, it turned its focus on the Black Steel Halbert and pulled it out of its chest, broke it apart, and threw the remnants at Liam, who evaded them skillfully.
He replaced the Black Tarthear Needles with the Lumina Needles which he triggered with Arcane Power, illuminating the entire room with a bright dazzling light for the second time.
The Shedim Champion roared out in response. It twirled its harpoon until it pointed downward and aimed it at Liam. With a tremendous force that caused a shockwave to reverberate through the surroundings the harpoon was unleashed from the monster's grip, and thrown at Liam, who stared at the situation unfolding in the dazzling bright room with a smile.
His Soultrait was fully unleashed and his prediction had been perfect. He began to move even before the Shedim Champion threw the harpoon at him. The Boss Monster was not able to see much in the dazzling light that filled the entire room.
While the same should apply to Liam, he was totally unaffected by the bright light as he saw everything clearly in front of him.
After all, a neat pair of sunglasses rested on his nose bridge, blocking the bright light perfectly and shielding his eyes from it!
