Chapter 46 - Turtle Monster
Chapter 46 - Turtle Monster
Dant and his party were transported to yet another stark black room. The monotonous black rooms had no glory to them and no decorations as well. Yet they made the participants shake in fear. They knew what such a room meant. A yet another beast hungry after their flesh.
Verona looked around. She was somehow curious as to where Klautz was. Klautz had disappeared last time even though he was with them at the beginning. Then somehow he had magically appeared in between just after Blair had died. But alas she didn't find Klautz anywhere. Little did she know that Klautz had stayed behind in the previous stage.
"Where is he?" She whispered to herself unknown to Dant.
On the other hand, Dant didn't even care whether Klautz was there or not. He didn't care anymore. He knew that the devil would come out only when he wants to. The question for him was, 'Should I keep helping him?' Dant thought. People would die anyway. Why take risks to be exposed by trying to throw them into danger? Let the cards play how they should. Dant decided not to intervene like last time.
Another blinding light appeared in the room. They gripped their weapons to defend themselves. They knew their attacks are going to be useless but they at least need to keep themselves alive than dying to fate.
Kristle gritted his teeth. He wished to fight till his last breath. His eyes narrows and his lips pursing, he was prepared for anything that might come his way.
The blinding light grew more and more, till it covered the entire room.
*Poof* It went into sparkles as it left behind an enormous beast. A green turtle of enormous size. At its back, there was a tree instead of a turtleback. Its dull green colour gave it the unapproachable feel and the tree on its back made it 1.5 stories high.
"Screech," the beast bellowed as it made a shrill sound. It lifted the front part of its torso in the air and then with a *swish* it dropped its whole body to the floor.
*Bam*
The floor shook and so did the one's who were standing on it.
"Kya," Verona squeaked as she fell to the floor due to the shaking. Everyone was frightened. The beast doesn't look like the ferocious beasts as one might expect but it was so humongous that all of them looked like ants in front of it.
Dant helped Verona get up as she went back to her knees.
"Thanks"
Dant nodded.
"Guys do you have any plans?"
His posture perked up as his pupils moved left and right in a frivolous way.
"None," Bret shook his head as he pressed his lips tightly together. He had a pained look on his face. In front of such a beast, it was not like any of their plans could make a change let alone kill the beast.
'That dude is our only hope,' Kristie thought. Kristie had thought that Klautz was hiding like last time somewhere around the room and he would appear only when the right time calls for it. Till then all he could do was grit his teeth and fight with this beast.
"It is so big up close!"
Before their eyes, the large turtle gets closer step by step. There is an earthquake every time it takes a step making everyone stagger.
"That seems to be the case," Kristie said.
"It's getting closer, we should escape," Verona claimed. She blinked rapidly as she made short and jerky movements with her bow. The turtle was enormous but it wasn't fast enough to catch up with them if they chose to keep their distance.
"I understand your feelings. But there is a reason where we were thrown in the room. If running away doesn't help us in defeating it then I don't see the point. Plus…" Kristie turned his head to take a look at the enormous turtle. There was a fire in his eyes that meant to portray his fighting spirit, "Plus no matter how I see it it is not gonna get exhausted before us. We will be digging our own graves by tiring our already tired selves."
For the past two-stage, they hadn't even stayed behind once to recuperate. All they have been doing is running and fighting. As such all of them are exhausted beyond repair. If they play a cut and chase game with this turtle then soon their legs would give off!
But the next thing that they saw caught of that possibility as well. From the tree behind the turtle's back, a score of monsters protruded out of its trunk. It was as if they were absorbed in the very trunk and had now come out to work for their master.
Drus.
A kind of monster that was specifically known to leach off nutrients from their prey. A kind of parasitic small-sized beast. They were about the size of a halfling but they had a whole body of green. In place of their hair, they had long vines along with green pointed eyes that could entice women if not pasted on a horrible face. It was like they had their jaws hanging from their faces like zombies with two horns on their head that resembled tree branches. A swarm of them came from the huge giant tree which had now turned to a shade of purple.
*swish*
*zap*
Verona's arrow shot out as it pierced one of the Drus heads. It fell on the floor as it squirmed and stopped moving. There was no blood coming out of his face. It was like he had a hay face with an arrow pierced in it. One might mistake Verona for practising her archery on green dummies.
