Chapter 897 Threaten

Hurt by Catherine's words, Simon turned to look at Bailey resentfully.

Artemis shot him a cold glare and scoffed, “So you're just going to listen to her? Shamelessly cling to her like how I used to cling to your sister-in-law in the past. Understand?”

Simon flinched as if realization had just struck him upon listening to his brother's words. Fired up, he took off in pursuit.

Bailey couldn't help chuckling as she watched the two leave. “Given the current situation, your brother really isn't good enough for her.”

Artemis huffed, holding her hand and leading her toward the mansion on the west side. “Once he becomes mature after being the head of the family for a few months, he'll improve.”

Bailey wrapped her arms around his, lifting her head to look at him with a wide grin. “In my eyes, no man in this world is as good as you. Not even my brother.”

Artemis' lips curled to form a smile as he reached out to pinch her cheek. “Be good and don't try to charm me with those eyes. We'll have to wait until we get back home.”

After entering the mansion on the east side, Catherine went straight to the second floor.

In the end, she found the drowsy Caridee in the master bedroom.

The fragrance was simply too overpowering. Even though the doors and windows of the room were tightly shut, some of the lingering scent still managed to seep through the cracks.

Although it wasn't enough to make her pass out, it was still quite overwhelming.

With haste, Catherine approached and produced a bottle, shaking it twice in front of her nose.

Caridee slowly came to her senses and saw a blurry figure in front of her. Instinctively, she curled up into a ball to protect herself.

As her vision gradually sharpened, she widened her eyes in surprise once she recognized the person before her.

“C-Catherine? Are you Catherine?”

Zayron had shown her a photo of Catherine before this, and she was sure it was indeed Catherine standing in front of her.

Calling out to Catherine, she threw herself into the former's arms and sobbed. “You're the best, Catherine! Only you care about me! The others didn't even bother to come to my rescue! You're the only one who cares!”

Taking note of how frightened the young lady was, Catherine patted her back and comforted her, “It's okay now. I'm here. No one can hurt you.”

Caridee continued bawling.

“All right, enough with the fake crying. Anyone can tell those are crocodile tears. You really are way too

carefree. Looks like you're living the life here, huh? We were actually worried that you were tormented.”

Caridee stopped crying abruptly and shot her brother a ferocious glare. “You talk too much and it's annoying.”

Catherine helped Caridee up and frowned as the latter swayed unsteadily. “What are you still doing standing there? Can't you see she's weak and can't walk?”

Simon walked over resignedly and scooped his sister up, complaining, “The number of dominatrixes in our family is shocking.”

Catherine launched a kick at him immediately after hearing that.

Only after kicking him did she realize she had lost her composure.

I'm usually not like this. Why do I always feel like slapping him every time he runs his mouth?

When the two of them returned to the artificial lake with Caridee, they saw Artemis and Bailey kissing under the shade of a tree by the lake.

This couple are such jerks.

In the valley in Derport, Veikko drove to the riverbank and parked the car there.

He had nothing to fear, for he had prepared everything in advance.

After getting out of the car, he walked straight over to the brook and crouched down.

Through the reflection in the clear water, he caught sight of the black-clad assassin, barely visible among the tree branches. His thin lips couldn't help curving into a bloodthirsty smile.

It's good that he's taking action. That's exactly what I'm waiting for. If he doesn't take action, it'll be difficult to carry out Bailey's rescue plan.

Astrid approached from a distance and said, “Hey, what are you doing squatting here? Let's go sit on that rock and rest for a bit.”

Veikko's smile deepened.

The next moment, he leaped into the air, plunging directly into the seemingly bottomless water.

A flash of surprise crossed Astrid's eyes, and she instinctively attempted to jump in after him.

That was when a series of gunshots rang out and countless bullets rained down from the tree branches.

Standing at the very heart of the sniper's focus, she was swept by a barrage of bullets, and just as expected, she was practically reduced to a human sieve.

Bright red blood oozed from countless bullet holes in her body. She fixed her gaze on the river's surface, her pupils constricting.

Why? Why is this happening to me? All I ever wanted was to make a deal and seek justice for myself. What's wrong with that? Why must fate be so cruel to me?

A shrill and mournful shriek echoed through the valley, its resonance lingering in the air.

The next moment, Astrid's lifeless body fell to the ground with a loud thud, her eyes wide open, staring at the blue sky above.

A group of bodyguards in black leaped down from the trees and began firing at the water.

Shaun approached with a grim expression, gritting his teeth as he asked, “Where is that brat?”

The leader of the assassins said with a trembling voice, “M-Mr. Carter, he must've jumped into the water after sensing danger. But don't worry, I will send people to search the water. He has no weapons, so he won't be able to escape.”

Shaun said impatiently, “Hurry up and get going!”

No sooner had his words fallen than the assassins on the shore began jumping into the water.

Three minutes later, a massive explosion rang out from beneath the water.

Every last one of those assassins was blown to smithereens.

Only then did Shaun realize he had been tricked. Shocked, he took a few steps back but was soon surrounded.

His personal bodyguard rushed over with a package in his arms.

“Mr. Carter, w-we've been tricked.”

Shaun kicked the bodyguard and yelled furiously, “Do you think I'm blind? I don't need you to tell me!”

His gaze fell on the package in the bodyguard's arms, and he soon burst into maniacal laughter.

Snatching the package from the bodyguard, he pulled out an urn from within. It was made of glass, filled with some powder.

Judging by the color of the powder, it was most likely someone's ashes.

Lifting the urn in his hand, he yelled at the river, “Kill me if you dare, you b*stard! If you kill me, all that's left of your mother's ashes will end up scattered on the ground as fertilizer.”

He ordered someone to secretly retrieve this from the Carter family.

The only reason he brought it with him today was simply to urinate in it right in front of Veikko.

Unexpectedly, it had become his lifesaver.

“Come on out, you jerk! Weren't you acting all tough? Come out and see what I'll do to your mother's ashes!”

Immediately after he finished his sentence, a sharp weapon came swinging over from the opposite cliff, and a slender figure glided through the air.

Veikko stared at the ashes in Shaun's hand, his eyes bloodshot, his body shaking violently.

He knew for a fact that these were his mother's ashes because he was the one who bought this urn.

If Shaun were to threaten him with anything else today, he would've remained unfazed.

However, he couldn't just stand by and do nothing when Shaun was about to desecrate his mother's ashes.

Shaun burst into boisterous laughter when he saw Veikko appear. “I can see you're getting anxious. Good. That means we still have a chance to negotiate.”
