Chapter 1714 Special Missions
?Chapter 1714 Special Missions
'You do anything but your job.
The mercenaries and other employees present in the Hall thought at the same time as they stared at Arshia smiling like a fool as she glanced at Nux.
"Tsk, what does she even see in him?"
One of the mercenaries snorted.
"Stay silent, will you?" Another mercenary sitting next to him replied.
"Huh? What do you mean?" the first mercenary frowned.
"Did you not realize it yet?"
"Realize what?"
"You hardheaded fool..." the second mercenary facepalmed.
"Are you looking for a fight?"
"Those four men still hadn't returned: Instead of fighting, the mercenary decided to explain. "So?"
"He went out alone, four people followed him, clearly, their intentions weren't good. However, the one who returned was him, and that too, without any injuries. Let alone injuries, he doesn't even look like he fought.
Not just that, did you forget how the one-eyed bastard reacted when he saw him return? I wouldn't be shocked if he had pissed in fear.
Those one-eyed bastards see what others aren't able to, he must have seen something for him to shake in terror like that,
Something... we shouldn't try and touch..."
The mercenary spoke with a grave look on his face.
It was just him, most mercenaries here could already tell that Nux wasn't normal. They were all battle-hardened beings who spent their entire lives on different battlefields. Obviously, their senses were far stronger than normal.
Therefore, no one wanted to get into a fight for no reason.
"So, can I get the Special Missions now?"
Nux questioned.
"Of course you can'
Arshia smiled brightly as she then picked a few papers and passed them to Nux.
"These are all the Special Missions available, you can choose any of them. However, unlike normal missions, I cannot allow you to pick more than one Special Mission, so select carefully, okay?" Arshia spoke. Nux, however, didn't reply, and a frown appeared on his face as he held the papers. Suddenly, he started reading the contents written on the paper, something he didn't need to do since he had already read all of that. He just wanted to make sure his ability was working fine.
However, the more he read, the deeper his frown got.
"These are... just normal missions?"
He spoke as he glanced at Arshia.
They were the same.
Collect Monster parts, infiltrate, gather information, and other basic stuff, all of these were no different than the normal missions he completed before.
"Hmm? What do you mean?"
Arshia tilted her head.
"Did you not see at the bottom? Look at the rewards. A normal mission of this level would only give you 300 Nexus Credits, but this one offers 1000 Credits.
This one is the same, you would normally..."
Arshia started showing the difference in rewards.
"The Special Missions are just normal missions with higher rewards?"
"Well, not exactly.
Don't underestimate Special Missions; there is a reason the rewards are higher than normal. A normal mission becomes a special mission when the attempt to clear it fails three times or more. The death rates are also higher in Special Missions, and in most cases, the information provided in the mission description isn't accurate, so you might need to face a threat you are not prepared for. They are definitely not normal missions"
"Weren't Special Missions supposed to be something else? Enlisting in the ongoing war, for example?
Nux questioned.
From the memories he had read, missions related to war were called special missions.
Arshia, however, stared at Nux with a dumbfounded look on her face. Then, she chuckled, "Hahaha~ I sometimes forget you are a new mercenary because of how you act."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, those missions are only available for Star Mercenaries"
Nux narrowed his eyes. This was the first time he had heard of this term. None of the ones he killed knew about this, and soon, he learned the reason as Arshia suddenly waved her hand and a barrier rose around them.
"The missions you are talking about are the ones that are usually given by our VIP customers.
We can't possibly hand them over to normal mercenaries since our reputation is on the line here! "My friends didn't know of this!"
Nux replied.
"Well then, I am sorry to say, but your friend must not be a very excellent mercenary.
Why do you think I raised the barrier?"
Arshia questioned.
"It is to not let others hear what I am talking about? It is not like something would change even if they did know, we just avoid telling them that there are missions with better rewards than Special Missions since we cannot leave these missions to the incompetent ones.
The only reason I am telling you about this is because you seem like an exceptional mercenary. I
have never seen someone complete ten missions in a single day. Now, it doesn't matter how you did it, nor do I care about it.
What I do care about is that you seem resourceful, a trait found in a quality mercenary.
You can think of it as me choosing you, separating you from the rest of the crowd.'
Arshia smiled.
"Does that mean I can do those missions?"
Nux questioned.
Arshia, however, shook her head.
"That is not possible. I can make an exception with Special Missions since I have a bit of authority, but as I said, these missions are given by our VIP customers. Oftentimes, these are the leaders of Middle Level Worlds, or even from the High Level Worlds. We cannot afford to disappoint them, since it would be a big loss if they go to someone else with their business.
Arshia explained.
"But since you are telling me about all this..."
Nux spoke, and Arshia's smile widened,
"Yes, what you are thinking is correct.
I believe you have what it takes to become our Star Mercenary"
"How do I do that?"
"Well, that is easy enough. You just need your name to be known throughout Nexus. The fastest way
to do it is to complete more Special Missions!
"How many?"
"Hmm...
About a hundred?
Well, there are a lot of other factors, like how fast you completed it, the failure rate, and other stuff,
but you still need to complete at least a hundred Special Missions to become a Star Mercenary" "Alright, give me a hundred Special Missions, then!"
