Chapter 92: Reunion (2)

Luke began to wonder why the hardest jobs always fall on his lap, but he didn’t think that in a negative light. Speaking objectively, he was a slacker that had never been that good at anything, but he still could pull off that kind of stunt. Nevertheless, Luke began to run toward the crystal, and since the wind was against him, it took a while for the Grivens to notice his approach. When they noticed him, Luke used Dash and began to run with all his might. It was hard to believe it… but he could he was running at seventy miles per hour…

The beasts prepared their claws to attack him… Luke could be fast, but he couldn’t just pass through dozens of them. However, when they began to move their claws, Luke used Stinger, and he disappeared from their sight.

Luke reappeared behind them, and he wondered in amazement if his speed kept increasing like that. The boost in movement granted by Stinger would feel like Teleportation at some point… Nevertheless, Luke passed through the first line of defense, but soon, another group appeared in front of the crystal… It seemed that the owner was really attentive to the changes in Lisbon. The second group formed a line by putting themselves one in front of the other. They wanted to slow down Luke in order for the first line of defense to attack him… while Luke didn’t expect that, he reacted fast enough.

“Rina!” Luke shouted and then jumped.

In the next moment, Rina increased Luke’s strength, and then he used Flying Kick. The sudden attack made Luke hit and break the neck of the first enemy but also made the body fly backward, hitting the other Grivens and knocking down several of them. Thanks to that distraction, Luke had the chance to resume his run without worrying about half of the enemies ahead. When the others reorganized themselves to fight and create a wall, Luke just repeated what he had done before. He passed through the line by using Stinger level four… Luke didn’t stop there. While he was only forty meters away from the crystal, he used the skill again two times and attacked when it began to shine. The crystal owner almost summoned something big, but Luke prevented it. Now, unfortunately, he was completely surrounded since all the Grivens in the area felt his presence.

Congratulations! You completed the quest.

You learned the skill Water Cannon.

Water Cannon: it creates a powerful stream of water that causes elemental damage and might push back the target.

Damage: 100% INT + 10% per level of the skill.

Cost: 20 mana per second.

It was a spell… truth to be told, Luke didn’t feel like he needed them since Shalia could use offensive magic, and Spark Ball caused damage in the area and paralyzed the targets. Not to mention, a cannon of water wouldn’t be helpful now… Luke turned around and then saw hundreds of monsters about to smash him. Before they could actually attack him, Shalia created two massive ice saws and made them spin at terrifying speeds before firing them toward the enemy… once she did that, several of the Grivens were split in half, and she managed to open a path for Luke.

…

Luke used Stinger to gain a boost in speed and some impulse as well. While he obtained that, he also felt his legs growing heavier. He used too much SP. Still, he took two potions from his pocket while he was running and drank them. Luke felt his legs getting reinvigorated, and then he tried to increase the pace. The fact that hundreds of vicious beasts were chasing him, it was also a pretty motivating factor.

It didn’t take long for Luke to find the traps and the others. Once he got close enough, he used Spark Ball to light all the fuel on the ground. In the blink of an eye, an wall of flames appeared and blocked the monsters path, but that didn’t stop them. What did stop was the fact that the cars began to explode around them, throwing the beasts from one side to another due to the shock waves?

Everything worked just as Billy had envisioned. The fire put hundreds of monsters on fire and damaged several others. The tires, clothes, and the plastic objects raised a curtain of dark smoke that blocked their field of vision.

“Hehe, this is what I am talking about,” Billy said. “Who wants some fried lizard for lunch?”

It was hard to imagine that Billy served in the army for twenty years… that was something that someone undisciplined would say. Nevertheless, after a couple of seconds, some grivens appeared, and they were pretty wounded. They became easy targets for Amanda and Celia’s long-range attacks.

It would be a waste of energy to fight those that were about to die, so Luke waited in order to recover his energy. After a while, some monsters that weren’t so wounded decided to take their chances crossing the dark curtain of smoke, and then Luke, Billy, and Chloe stepped forward to deal with them. Still, they didn’t face any problems due to the obstacles, but they had to fight for a while.

In the end, another group of soldiers came to check on things. Apparently, they had already rescued the subjects and come to help, but they didn’t find anything to do… no, they didn’t find. They grabbed the loot that Luke and the others couldn’t.

“How are we going to split this?” Luke asked. “I am not going to hand over everything for free.”

“… Is there anything that you want in exchange for your part of the loot?” Billy asked while frowning since the others didn’t even think of trading or selling the items that they didn’t need.

“Let’s see… how about a few hundred grenades?” Luke asked.
