Chapter 627

Nathan was just having a meal at a restaurant, not expecting to stumble upon Brittany and William together.

They seemed to be getting along like a house on fire. There were no signs of a breakup at all.

Nathan couldn’t help but glance at Isaac, whose face was as dark. He tried to console, “Mr. Salter, no need to get your knickers in a twist. Ms. Dustin and William are no longer an item. They’re just friends now.”

Brittany was a woman of principle. There was no way she was going back to William.

They had known each other since college, with a deep bond that had lasted more than a decade. It was not something that could have been easily severed.

Isaac knew Brittany wouldn’t get back with William, but jealousy still gnawed at him.

He was jealous because William got to be with Brittany for five years. He was jealous because Brittany devoted all her assets to the Dillion Group.

He couldn’t even get a sliver of a smile from Brittany, yet William could maintain such a close relationship with her!

He clenched his fists, his body brimming with a cold aura.

Nathan had been with him for years, but even then he was intimidated by Isaac’s aura, which sent chills down his spine.

It took a while before Isaac finally turned and left.

Nathan promptly followed.

They got in the car, one after the other. Isaac leaned against the leather seat. His hands were on his forehead. After a while, he asked in a raspy voice, “Did I really mess up five years ago?”

Nathan answered nonchalantly, “Mr. Salter, you were trying your best to protect Ms. Dustin five years ago, but maybe your methods weren’t quite right.”

Isaac had indeed messed up five years ago. He was stubborn, wanting to shoulder everything for Brittany, wanting to keep her by his side.

But Brittany was human too. She would have felt pain and she would have wanted to run away.

From her perspective, Isaac had hurt her child, confined her, and betrayed her. It was only fair that she wanted to leave.

The air conditioning in the car felt even colder.

Gathering his courage, Nathan said, “Mr. Salter, Ms. Dustin hasn’t completely given up on you. Why don’t you tell her about what happened five years ago?”

Isaac loosened his hands, “What’s the point of telling her? The damage is done. Even if I tell her, what can it change?”

After living for over thirty years, Isaac had never experienced regret.

But then, for the first time, he tasted the bitterness of regret.

If he could have done it all over again, he wouldn’t have been so headstrong.

He would have been honest from the start, told Brittany his identity, and told her that he truly loved her.

Even if there were problems, they would have worked them out together instead of him being headstrong.

Seeing the regret in his eyes, Nathan silently started the car and slowly drove off.

After chatting with Brittany for over three hours and after several calls from his family urging him to leave, William finally had to say goodbye.

Before leaving, Brittany walked him to the parking lot.

Over the years, William had adapted well to his prosthetic limb, and it was almost undetectable when he walked.

When they reached the parking lot, Brittany stopped William, “I heard Carla’s been waiting for you. If…”

“Brittany.” William’s face turned sour, cutting her off, “If you still want us to keep in touch, then don’t bring up these things.”

Seeing him getting irritated, Brittany quickly swallowed her words, “William…”

“I know who I like. I know what kind of life I want.”

William looked at Brittany and continued, “If I choose Carla now, it would be unfair to her.”

He further added, “She’s a good girl. I don’t want to be unfair to her.”

William knew Carla had feelings for him, but he didn’t feel the same way about her. How could he have selfishly made Carla his second choice?

Brittany knew she owed William. Hearing his words, she stepped forward and hugged William. Her eyes were filled with sorrow as she said, “I’m sorry.”

She had caused William so much pain, and she could give him nothing in return.

Smelling her scent, William gently rested his hand on the back of her head. His eyes were downcast, and after a moment, he pushed Brittany away.

“Bri, we’re still friends. If you ever need anything, just give me a call.”
