Chapter 1214

“Alright, I’m in,” Susan blurted out without a second thought.

She had braced herself for some outrageous demand, and now felt a wave of relief wash over her.

Even if Callum hadn’t mentioned it, she would’ve moved heaven and earth to sabotage Thalassa and

Lysander’s relationship and drive a wedge between them!

Only with Thalassa out of the picture could Susan have a shot at standing by Lysander’s side.

Callum’s lips curled into a smirk. “You can go now,” he said to Susan.

“That’s it? You haven’t even told me how you’re going to help me,” Susan said, her confusion evident.

Callum, leaning on his cane, rose to his feet and walked away without another glance at Susan. “I only

work with smart people.”

Susan was about to follow him, but his words rooted her to the spot. She was afraid that saying

anything more might make her look foolish in his eyes.

But with Callum leaving her without any hints, just a promise to help her win Lysander, she felt lost.

What was supposed to be her next move?

Thalassa was getting ready to leave work when her phone rang – it was from Hertha.

She quickly picked up the call, eager to hear what her friend had to say.

“Thalassa, guess how my blind date turned out?” Hertha couldn’t wait to tell her as soo as Thalassa

answered.

“No idea,” Thalassa replied. “Just spill it, will you?”

“Well, I was all set to tell my mom to gently reject Spencer, but before I could even open my mouth,

she’s telling me how much Spencer likes me. He called her, said he felt a connection, and now he’s

planning to visit in a few days to formally ask for my hand. My mom’s over the moon, laughing in her

sleep with joy. How am I supposed to break it to her now?”

Hertha was distressed.

She had intended for her mother to turn Spencer down, but now, Spencer had seized the initiative.

If she tried to tell her mother now that she wasn’t feeling it and wanted to reject Spencer, her mom

would probably twist her ear, accuse her of not knowing a good thing when she saw it, and threaten to

disown her.

Hertha chickened out and didn’t speak up.

“Then what are you going to do? Just wait for Spencer to come asking?” Thalassa asked, trying to

make her friend understand the gravity of the situation.

“If you say you’re not into him now, it’s easier to call it quits. But once he’s made an official move, it’s

much more difficult. Ending it then will cause more gossip and hurt for both of you.”

“I get it, I do. I want Spencer to be the one to tell my mom it’s not working out and to bow out

graciously.” Hertha knew the score. She was calling Thalassa to figure out a good plan.

“I’ve already got an idea. I’ll meet with Spencer today and lay it all out for him. I’ll get him to talk to my

mom, But I can’t do it alone. I need your backup.” Hertha pouted over the phone. Though Hertha

usually acted tough and carefree, when push came to shove, she was a bundle of nerves.

Thalassa wanted to be there for her friend, but remembering Lysander’s reaction the day before, she

hesitated.

“Hertha, I don’t think I can be there for you today, especially not to meet another guy,” Thalassa said

with regret but felt compelled to be honest with her friend.

“What? Why?” Hertha was truly baffled.

Thalassa had no choice but to share with Hertha the story of Lysander’s anger upon learning she had

met with Spencer – so much so that he had the kitchen prepare the same three dishes she had for

lunch, in huge portions, no less.

Hertha was speechless over the phone. Lysander’s possessiveness was borderline ridiculous. All

Thalassa did was accompany her to meet a blind date, and he lost his co to the point of punishing

Thalassa with an excessive amount of food.

It was clear that Lysander was on a vengeful purpose to make Thalassa to apologize.
