Chapter 704

“It’s all water under the bridge now. Besides, isn’t Thalassa sitting right here in front of us? Give her a break; she’s been through enough.” Hertha, the peacemaker, tried to placate Evelyn.

Evelyn shot a glance at Thalassa. “I can’t control you anymore.”

With that, she stood up to fetch a plate and cutlery for Thalassa from the kitchen.

“Mom, Bruce hasn’t tried to contact you again, has he?” Thalassa was worried that Bruce might seek revenge on Evelyn.

“Does he even have the guts after deceiving me so many times?” Evelyn retorted, her heart now heavy and solid as a rock.

Being fooled by the same man twice was a testament to her own foolishness.

She’d wasted her life on such a devious man, and now she realized it hadn’t been worth it at all.

Despite knowing this, her heart still ached. How could one just let go of someone they’d loved? Even though she knew how despicable he just wouldn’t listen.

was,

her heart

Noticing Evelyn’s melancholy, Thalassa tried to comfort her. “That’s all in the past now. Online dating is pretty popular these days. Why don’t I set up a profile for you? You’re still young and vibrant, so you can still find someone to share your life with.”

Evelyn sighed heavily. “Why waste money on that? I don’t have time for such nonsense.”

“You were busy looking after my children a few years ago and didn’t have much time for yourself. Now that they’re at Royal Estates with people to look after them, you have plenty of time. Give it a shot. You might just find someone suitable.” Thalassa suggested.

Evelyn had always put Thalassa first. She even delayed her own personal life for her daughter.

Thalassa felt very guilty. She was the one to disrupt Evelyn’s life.

Now, she hoped her mother could find a companion to share the sunset years of her life with, so she wouldn’t be alone.

Thalassa was Evelyn’s daughter, and she knew her mother better than anyone else.

Seeing through Thalassa’s intentions, Evelyn waved her off. “Stop overthinking. Who do you think you are? You think you stood in the way of me finding someone? If I wanted to find someone, not even God could stop me. I just don’t have the heart for it anymore.”

She’d given her heart and soul to Bruce, even foolishly clinging to his empty promises.

She had thought there might still be a chance for them.

That was the main reason she hadn’t looked for someone else.

Now, she’d had enough. She was disappointed in men, and she was no longer young. Why even bother anymore?

Thalassa glanced at Hertha as her eyes conveyed a silent message.

Hertha got the hint and joined Thalassa in persuading Evelyn. “Thalassa is just looking out for you. Give it a shot; consider it a way to pass the time. You might meet someone suitable, and if not, there’s no harm in staying single.”

“You all talk a good game. I’m done arguing with you.” Evelyn sighed. “Do whatever you want.”

With that, Thalassa and Hertha exchanged a triumphant look.

Thalassa immediately pulled out her phone and set up a dating profile for Evelyn. Once she’d filled out the necessary information, she submitted it to the dating site. If there was a match, the site would contact Evelyn to arrange a date.

After dinner, the three of them sat on the couch, chatting. When Evelyn grew tired, she retired to her bedroom to rest.

Thalassa and Hertha continued their conversation.

“How have you been at Royal Estates these past few weeks? Has Lysander given you any trouble?” Hertha asked as she casually rested her hand on Thalassa’s shoulder.

Thalassa met Hertha’s gaze, which was filled with curiosity. She looked a bit uncomfortable to be under such scrutiny and lowered her eyes. “I’m fine. How could he trouble me?”

“You know… in bed…” Hertha’s voice rose with excitement, but Thalassa quickly put a hand over her mouth, casting a wary glance towards the bedroom door.
