Chapter 462 The Army's True Purpose

Chapter 462  The Army's True Purpose

"We near Datar with each passing day. Why not just go ahead and run their Gods roughshod?" Daraya asked with an irritated grunt.

"Because we must do things as His Excellency has said. If we rush ahead, then he might get angry." Ruth responded, her eyes closed.

"Bah! His Excellency is wise and unfathomable! He put me in the vanguard force for a reason! I am sure he must have foresaw that we would go ahead and deal with this puny world before the main army will arrive. And besides! We are only a week away! We could speed up the march of the vanguard and arrive there tomorrow!" Daraya argued.

"No." Ruth's answer was short and showed that she was not going to be persuaded by his words.

"Fine, then. I will go on my own." Daraya stood up and was about to leave the large carriage, but he was pinned by a stare from Ruth. Her eyes glowed purple and a menacing aura leaked out from her slender frame. She closed her eyes again as Daraya sat down quietly.

"Finally." The third Major God sighed under his breath but it did not escape Daraya's attention.

"Oi! If you have anything to say to me, then say it to my face! I can still hear you even if you whisper!" The burly being angrily said but the third Major God did not answer, instead turning his attention elsewhere.

"What do you see, Deeno?" Ruth turned her attention to the third Major God and asked.

"They are preparing, that is all I know. I can not see much. It seems their Fate Gods are working together to block my sight." Deeno said, adjusting the cloth around his eyes. He was not a Fate God himself, but he possessed the ability to Scry just like one.

From his analysis, even though it was limited, Datar possessed a decent amount of strength, but nothing worth noting. Or else it would not have been on the list of worlds to destroy.

The Army of Destruction was not actually evil. It was simply a force of the universe that had been created to clean up the trash. Worlds that did not exhibit any noteworthy growth were put on the list to be destroyed. Only when the world was destroyed would fresh energy and resources for a new one to be born become available.

This was the goal of the Army of Destruction. To pave the way for new life.

It was actually quire ironic. A force of destruction that paved the way for creation. It was something that sounded absurd, but it worked just fine.

However, not many people knew of the true mission of the Army of Destruction. Those who knew of the army's existence all view it as a threat to the continued existence of their worlds. Whenever they found out that their world was next on the list for destruction, they all reacted with panic and hatred.

In truth, the Army of Destruction only targeted the worlds whose growths had stagnated, and Datar was a prime example of that. After all, not a single God had ascended for a millennium.

The fact that no God had ascended in a thousand years was not a hidden fact from the Army of Death. Because of this, they underestimated the true strength of the protectors and rulers of Datar. They thought that Datar only held a few Gods with meager strength. A few higher ups of the army had come to the conclusion that maybe the original Gods that had been born with the world had sealed the world prematurely in order to preserve what little strength they had over the mortals.

In truth, it was something similar, but it happened at a much latter time, allowing there to be many more Gods than what they had suspected.

"Hmm, it does not matter if they are hiding behind the veil put up by their Fate Gods. Our strength will be enough to keep them occupied until the main force arrives. They should have at most five Major Gods. It is pretty decent for a medium sized world that sealed itself. Maybe seven if they are lucky. But for their Minor Gods, even if they have over twenty, they should not be too strong." Daraya grunted.

Daraya was an old soul and had worked in the Army of Destruction for millennia. He had vanquished many Gods and razed many worlds. He believed he had a good feel for the number of Gods a world could birth depending on the situation.

Ruth nodded with him before closing her eyes again, which had opened some time earlier as she pondered.

Daraya folded his arms and also sunk into thought. But he was not thinking about future strategies or the like. No. He was reliving the little battles that he had fought over the years. He itched to fight many more exciting battles and hoped that he would find someone interesting in Datar. Perhaps he could convince the lucky God to defect and join the Army of Destruction. That way, they could keep fighting for many more years to come.

Meanwhile, Deeno closed his eyes and tried to focus on bypassing the veil on Datar. The more information he could get, the easier this mission would be. Then when they finished dealing with Datar, he could return to his rest for as long as possible before he was called upon to lead another vanguard force. That would not be for another few centuries, he hoped.

Like so, the army moved forward. Hundreds of thousands of celestial creatures of varying strengths. Millions of powerful mortal beings, ready to descend onto Datar the moment their leaders gave them a chance to. They did not care for the true mission of the Army of Destruction.

No.

They were beings that sought to destroy all that stood in their path. After all, that was the reason why they had been put in this army.
