Chapter 107 - NEW YEAR GIFT
Chapter 107 - NEW YEAR GIFT
An hour before the New Year. The four youngsters were on the way to their houses.
Kevin and Kris were living together in Selena's apartment. Kevin's foster parents' house had been repaired, but Kevin was comfortable living in his mother's residence, so they decided to stay there longer.
Unfortunately, they needed to postpone their plan to build a house on the beach because they still had tasks to finish in the city.
Meanwhile, Blue and Jack were living in the orphanage. After Selena died, they took the position of caretaker in the orphanage.
That was a win-win solution for Blue. She was comfortable living in the orphanage, and now she got a new title as a caretaker, no longer an orphan there.
Kris was driving his red car, and Kevin was sitting on the passenger seat beside him. Blue and Jack were sitting on the back.
"That former General was crazy! How could he hold us back and not let us go when it's already this late?" Jack couldn't help but protest.
He harshly loosened up his tie and unbuttoning the top two buttons of his white shirt. His sandy blonde hair was now messy. Ah, right. Jack dyed his hair blonde yesterday. He said he wanted to start anew after the war ended, and his new hair was the symbol of his new life.
"You dared to call the former General crazy?" Blue, who was sitting beside him, asked him in a lazy tone.
The girl also looked uncomfortable in her navy blue dress. That was the first time she wore a formal dress like that.
Kevin and Kris at the front could only smile at their bickering.
Jack may be right, though. The former General was a bit crazy by holding them back and never let them go when it was already this late.
The old man couldn't stop drinking and he was drunk. He spouted nonsense and kept asking them to stay, even asking the waitresses to lock the door to prevent them from running away. The restaurant had been paid with a lot of money, so they could only comply with his absurd wish.
"Mr. Dawson was not crazy, he's just lonely. I heard that he didn't get married and was always alone all his life. He also doesn't have any relatives. It's normal for him to act that way when we're around him to keep him company," Kevin chimed in to stop the batter on the back seats.
"Why didn't he get married, Brother? He was a General with a good reputation. Girls should be line up to be his wife," Blue couldn't help but ask.
Kevin frowned at the question. "You may be right, Blue," he answered. "But maybe those girls failed to win his heart. Love is not something that can be forced, right?" He continued while stealing a glance at Kris, who was driving beside him.
"Stop glancing at me. There are kids behind you," Kris, who noticed Kevin's secret glance, warned him jokingly.
That joke apparently tickled Jack's conscience. "Who did you call kid? This one is a kid!" He pointed at Blue. "But I'm a man!" he continued proudly.
Blue couldn't accept what she heard, and she suddenly brought her mouth to bit Jack's finger that was pointing at her. Jack screamed when he felt the pain on his poor finger.
"Stop joking, guys," Kris warned the two 'kids' on the back seat. He seemed to not realized that he was the first who threw the joke. "We have something to be discussed, so please be serious," he continued.
"Kris is right," Kevin chimed in. "We have to discuss my mother's last wish to see us live as normal humans and get rid of our powers as soon as possible."
Blue and Jack on the back seat were in serious mode after hearing Kevin's words.
"I know Professor Selena Beischel wanted us to live as normal humans. I know that's her purpose since a long time ago, but I have a feeling that something is not right about that," Jack responded to Kevin's words.
Kris looked at Jack through the rearview mirror in the car and asked, "What do you mean, Jack? Don't say that you're not willing to let go of your power because you're too greedy!"
Jack's eyes widened when he heard Kris' accusation. "I'm not like that!" He quickly rebuked. "I can't explain it to you, but I think something is wrong here."
"And, what is that something? Are you going to say that my mother is wrong because of her last wish?" Kevin quickly replied to Jack's sentence.
The scientist's question was enough to lock up Jack's mouth, so he was no longer uttering any words. His earlier words apparently had offended the young scientist.
Kris sighed when he heard Kevin's rather harsh tone. "Let's not talk about that for now," he said wisely. "We should focus on the innocent werewolves that are still locked up until now. Prepare yourself, Kev. We should extract the antidote in your body so we can help them as soon as possible."
Kevin was silent after hearing Kris's words. He lowered his head, so his brownish irises now focused on his hands on his laps.
Kris was right. The innocent werewolves from the war ten days ago were still locked up and waited for the antidote to being extracted from his body. Kris and the other didn't force him and patiently waited until he was ready for the extraction, but he still felt bad about that.
Noticing Kevin's sullen expression, Kris reached out his right hand to pat his lover's head.
"Don't let it give you more pressure, Kev. Professor told me to wait for you until you're ready for the extraction. The extraction not only requires a healthy body but also a stable mental state. If your mind is not ready, then we can't extract the antidote from your body. That may endanger your life."
Kevin lifted his head and looked up at his tall lover. "Thank you, Kris," he whispered tenderly. "Just give me some more time. I promise it won't be too long."
The atmosphere on the front seats was so sweet and romantic, but Blue had the heart to interrupt it with a fake cough. The fake cough made Kris pull his hand away from Kevin's head, and Kevin also stopped staring at his handsome lover.
"Sorry for disturbing your lovey-dovey moment, but we just passed the orphanage. Now you need to make a u-turn, Uncle," Blue coldly said to her 'lovely' uncle.
She said sorry, but her face didn't seem guilty at all. Her stiff attitude made Jack silently laugh beside her.
Kris was stunned by the girl's words as he silently looked at the wing mirror. Blue was right, they just passed the orphanage building. He didn't have any other choice than to make a u-turn to drop the two passengers.
The car successfully turned around and stopped right in front of the orphanage's gate. Blue and Jack opened the car door and hopped down from the red vehicle.
"Thank you for the ride. Have some rest, and don't do the naughty thing! Good night!" Blue slammed the car door and walked away to the orphanage building.
The action got Kevin and Kris speechless.
"Blue's words just now sounds familiar to me. Where did I hear it before?" Kris dumbly asked Kevin, who just rolled his eyes at the silly question.
"Let's go have some rest and not doing the naughty thing," the scientist said as he leaned his back on his seat.
Kris just chuckled and ruffled his lover's hair lovingly. "You're such a cutie, Kevin Beischel!"
Kevin scoffed at the words, but he didn't say anything. He was tired, so he started closing his eyes.
But the silent atmosphere only remained for two minutes before the black-haired man broke the silence. "Please answer me honestly, Kris," he stated softly as he kept closing his eyes. "Are you willing to let go of your powers?"
Kris was astonished by his lover's question. He was surprised because Kevin brought up that topic again.
Both Kris and Jack were still werewolves, and Blue also still had her powers. He and Jack were waiting for Kevin's readiness to extract the antidote from his body. Once the antidote was injected into their bodies, they would turn into normal humans and would lose their superpowers.
"I don't really care about this power, Kev," Kris answered honestly. "I just want to live with you, living a normal life until our hairs turn white and death separate us apart. That's my only wish."
Kevin's heart warmed as he listened to his lover's honest answer. He opened his eyes again and turned to the taller man. "Thank you, Kris," he said sincerely.
Kris just smiled but not turning his head to his cute lover. "It's midnight already. Aren't you expecting a new year's gift from me, Kev?"
Hearing the word "gift," Kevin's eyes widened in surprise. He straightened his back and looked at Kris enthusiastically. "You're going to give me a new year's gift?" He asked excitedly like a little kid.
Kris giggled and peeped at his lover for a few seconds before focusing on the empty road before him. His expression looked dangerous, and Kevin's enthusiastic expression turned pale now. He sensed something bad from Kris!
"I've prepared a special gift for you. Let's go to get your gift, my love!"
