Chapter 80 - HER LABORATORY

Chapter 80 - HER LABORATORY

"So, you're partnering up with a girl now?"

Kevin was just getting into the red car, but he was immediately greeted with an investigating question. The black-haired man turned to the left and found Kris staring at him sharply.

The phone line with Kris was still connected when Anna suddenly asked about him having a lover. At that time, he chose to ignore his junior's question and immediately walked out of the laboratory. That inevitably made Anna purse her lips.

"Yes, her name is Anna. Since Andre died, I've worked with her a lot," Kevin answered his lover's question while his hands cleverly began to fasten his seat belt.

"Andre died, and now a new love rival appears. Will this ever end?"

Kevin's sharp ears caught Kris's words which were being voiced in a low voice as if he didn't want Kevin to hear them.

"What are you saying? Love rival? Oh, my, Kris! You must be kidding! Andre already has a wife, and Anna... she's just my junior, and I'm not even familiar with her!"

Kris was a little surprised by Kevin's rebuttal. It seemed he didn't expect Kevin would hear what he was saying. He didn't say anything and just slowly started driving his red car.

"Are you jealous, Kris?" Kevin asked again because Kris had not said anything since earlier.

"It's better if you work at home. I can build you a super sophisticated laboratory if you want."

Kevin was a little stunned by Kris's words, but seconds later, he laughed loudly. Gosh, since when did Kris become so childish? It seemed that the burly man was really jealous.

"Haven't I always believed in you, Kris? Now, it's your turn to give me your trust. I can't possibly betray you."

The scientist's gentle voice made Kris sigh, but not long after, the corners of his lips raised to form a sweet smile.

Kevin finally let out a sigh of relief to see his lover's smile.

"Where are we going now?" The fair-skinned man then asked when he realized that he didn't know where they were going.

"We're going to Professor Selena's secret laboratory."

Kris's answer made Kevin widen his eyes. "Secret laboratory? That woman has a place like that?" He asked in shock.

"Yes," Kris answered. "So far, the Professor has done a lot of research there. You definitely didn't expect it, right?"

Of course, Kevin had never expected it. Before the secret was revealed, he only knew an elderly lady named Monica Nierling, a frail lady who served as the head of the orphanage.

He thought the lady only spent her time in the orphanage, but it turned out that he was wrong. The lady turned out to be actively doing research even though a stroke had struck her. Ah, speaking of a stroke...

"Kris, did that woman really have a stroke? Or is it just part of her acting?" Kevin just realized the possibility, so he asked.

But, the question felt like a joke to Kris as he started laughing amusedly. "It's a real stroke. Why would the Professor pretend to be sick and have to use a wheelchair every day? It's no use, Kev."

Kevin snorted at Kris's answer. They all had lied to him a lot, so it wouldn't be wrong if he was suspicious of the slightest thing, right?

"Anyway, why did you suddenly take me to her secret laboratory? Did something happen?" Kevin suddenly changed the subject.

Kris, who was driving beside him, nodded before asking back, "Have you heard the news about the appearance of a werewolf monster lately?"

Kevin was amazed by the coincidence. He just got a letter about the appearance of a werewolf monster, and Kris suddenly asked about that matter.

"Yes, I just got a report about that. You know about that as well?" The scientist asked back.

"Of course," Kris calmly replied. "The professor continues to investigate about it, and I was able to catch one a few hours ago."

Kevin's eyes widened at Kris's statement. It turned out that Kris and Selena had started their movements, and they were much faster than the Intelligence Agency.

Kevin's heart was pounding with enthusiasm, and his hands unconsciously gripped his seat belt tightly. "Does that woman want me to research the monster?"

Even though he didn't like Selena, he was very interested in the new case, so he chose to brush off his personal feelings.

Kevin's very enthusiastic question made Kris smile faintly. "Yes, Professor Selena would like to invite you to do research together. That's only if you don't mind."

"I don't mind!" Kevin quickly replied to Kris's words. "If it's about research, then I can cooperate with anyone. You don't need to worry about that."

Finally, Kris's thin smile turned into a crisp laugh. His right hand reached out to pinch Kevin's cheek shortly. His lover's behavior was simply adorable, and he couldn't help but give him an affectionate pinch.

Their journey was engulfed in silence afterward. Kris's red car speeding for a long time, maybe about 30-40 minutes, before finally, the car stopped in front of a small warehouse that wasn't used and looked unkempt.

Kris got out of his car first, and before long, Kevin followed the lead. The scientist's eyes traced the remote place with question marks.

"Are you sure this is the place? Isn't it just an old warehouse that's almost collapsed?" Kevin asked with an unsure expression after his eyes were done exploring the old warehouse.

Kris didn't answer Kevin's question and instead walked towards the warehouse door, which was made of iron but was already covered with rust. Without hesitation, Kris opened the door and asked Kevin to enter first.

Kevin hesitated a little, but he had no other choice but to quickly enter the warehouse. After that, Kris closed the warehouse door again and caught up with Kevin.

The inside of the warehouse was as old as the outside. The iron pillars were covered with rust, and the site was also covered with cobwebs and dust. Kevin coughed when the thick dust started entering his mouth and his nose.

Kris just chuckled, then walked further into the warehouse. Kevin followed the tall young man, and soon their footsteps stopped in front of a horizontal door attached to the warehouse floor. The door looked familiar to Kevin's eyes.

"It looks similar to the one in my biological parents' house. Don't tell me the laboratory—"

"Yes, it's underground. You can unlock the door the same way you unlock the laboratory door in your biological parents' house."

Kevin gave Kris a 'you must be kidding' look, but Kris gave a non-verbal cue that he wasn't kidding.

The scientist then studied the horizontal metal door parallel to the floor and found a fingerprint scanner attached to it. It was the same as the one in the house of his biological parents.

Shortly thereafter, Kevin turned back to Kris and said, "The secret laboratory in our house was built around the 1980s and was renovated around the 2000s, and by that time, the security system with fingerprint was the most sophisticated. But, this is 2038 when usually the security system uses iris scanning, so why is this door still using the old model?"

Kris sighed at Kevin's stubbornness. "The answer is simple. Professor Selena wants you to feel at home when you work here," replied the werewolf casually.

The answer left Kevin at a loss for words. His heart was a little touched by his mother's intentions, but then he shook his head lightly to dismiss the thought.

He chose to ignore the turbulence in his heart as he crouched down and put his palm on the scanner attached to the door, just like what he did when he wanted to open the door to the laboratory in the house of his biological parents.

And, what happened next was the same. The lock on the iron door opened immediately after the scanner managed to recognize Kevin's fingerprint. His mother had literally set up this system for him, and again, he felt a little touched.

"You trust me now?" Kris, who was standing beside him, asked in a teasing tone. "Now, hurry up and open the door so we can enter the laboratory. The professor is waiting for us inside."

Ignoring the ripple in his heart, Kevin finally opened the metal door, and he was immediately welcomed by a narrow staircase, just like the one in the laboratory at his biological parents' house.

It was a replica, and Kevin swallowed nervously. He looked back a little and found Kris nodded at him as if to convince him that it was all safe for him. Finally, Kevin started walking down the stairs, and Kris followed him from behind, not forgetting to close the laboratory door again, which then locked automatically.

The scientist stepped down slowly until he arrived at an underground room that was dominated by metallic silver color. Kevin was stunned again. The room layout was the same as the one in the laboratory at the house of his biological parents. It's just that all the equipment there was very modern, a total opposite from the laboratory in the house of his biological parents which still used primitive equipment.

Kevin looked around and found that there were many digital screens containing data and numbers, just like the ones in the laboratory where he worked. There were no visible cables and paper. Everything was very sophisticated using wireless technology and a comprehensive computing system.

"Welcome to my laboratory, Kevin."

A familiar voice made Kevin turn to the source of the voice. An elderly lady was sitting in a wheelchair.

Near the lady's wheelchair was a giant glass tube that was in a horizontal position. There were many tools inside the giant glass tube, and all of them were aimed at a motionless creature. Yes, it was a werewolf monster.
