Chapter 380 - Get Out
Chapter 380 - Get Out
Enger was the last person Leena expected behind the hideous act. ''This psychopath claims to love me, yet he went beyond harming me?'' She mumbled in a hushed voice. The thought of Enger listening to her activities in secret for a week caused her body to shudder in fright. Internally, Leena breathed in relief when she remembered she and Devin didnot involve...
''That muttonhead psychopath is a nightmare in broad daylight.'' Cursing at him, Leena glanced at Devin, and his blank expression confirmed he was also blown up, although it wasn't true. She tapped on Devin's shoulder to bring him out of the surprise land.
''Through what source we are listening to his voice?'' That was the first question Devin asked in a whisper. ''Have you planted a bug in her?''
''No.'' She winked at Devin. ''I hijacked into her phone and activated the remote microphone in her mobile.''
Devin was so close to praise Leena for her ingenuity, but he closed his mouth shut, knowing that Leena will forget everything and sit on top of the Moringa tree blushing. Shaking his head, he shifted his attention to focus on the conversation when he heard Enger broke the silence from the other end.
''I warned you thrice before you took up the mission. Leena shouldn't get hurt and look at what you did. She is suffering from constant headaches. What punishment should I proffer you?'' Devin no doubted he heard the threatening voice of Enger directing at Merl. He pulled Leena close to him possessively, so close to the point of crushing her bones.
''Is he jealous of that psycho?'' Leena muttered, returning his hug. Even if she says no one can replace Devin in her life, she doubted Devin would dwindle with his jealousy.
''I am sorry, Boss. Please give me at least a day.'' Devin and Leena heard Merl spoke again.
''If Leena goes to the hospital and gets to know the truth, the first doubt comes on you. Do you know...''
''Nothing you are thinking will happen, Boss.'' Merl cut him off. ''I will manage to get rid of the bug at..''
Devin suddenly heard a door creak, and soon a man's voice replaced Merl's voice. ''....Enger, I heard you are going to Mexico again. Why didn't you inform me?''
''Get rid of the bug by tomorrow. I don't want any more excuses.'' Devin heard Enger's voice directing at Merl.
''Thank you, Boss. I will take my leave now.''
As Merl started to leave, the voices of Enger turned into a whisper to Leena and Devin.
''Nash! I told you not to talk about my Mexico visit in front of others!''
''Well..it's our A...she is close...we..d..''
The voices completely faded into the air now.
Leena closed the laptop shut. Nash, the man she interrogated, was a close buddy to Enger? What is his identity? Leena hadn't investigated Enger, but his connections indicate he is not what he seems to be on the surface.
''Merl will cook up another story to take me to the hospital,'' Leena started.
''Acting is not new for you, isn't it?'' Devin chuckled, brushing her cheeks with his thumb.
''Tired of the same old drama.'' She sighed. Leena knows Merl will use the same old method, food poisoning, to take her to the hospital. The only thing she needed to do is play her cards. Her Francy once told, never play the role of the enemy in front of the person who is your enemy. Time to put the theory into practice.
A while later, Leena went down to have dinner, leaving Devin in thoughts. If Devin hadn't known about Enzo Brown's death, he would have bothered Enger's Mexico visit, but now he feels mysteries of Enger are piling up with no clues. With that, he immediately texted Kurt. [KW: Enger is going to Mexico, and he is closely related to Morvena's father. Do a thorough investigation on Enzo Brown and Enger's connection to Mexico. I am sure you will get a breakthrough in the case as well.''
Moments later, Devin received a reply. [Vince: On it]
Devin knows 'case' is the only way to tempt the lazy Kurt to get his whole nine yards.
While having dinner, Leena didnot see Nick at the table. Aunt Jalapeno informed he had early dinner. She knows he is showing his anger on her.
After dinner, she threw the micro transmitter she was carrying in her hand in the bedroom and made her way out and found him sitting by the pool all alone like a lost child. She cleared her throat to inform him of her presence. Nick glanced at her for a brief second and turned back.
''How long are you going to ignore me?'' Leena asked, sitting next to him.
''You started it,'' Nick mumbled. Taking a pebble from the plant pot, he threw it into the pool, the impact created ripples. ''Do you know how much I got hurt when you said 'Get Out'?'' Nick turned his eyes away from Leena, so she wouldn't see the tears coursing down his cheeks. 'Get out of this home!' He heard them once from that woman; his heart shattered on that day. Those two words were the nightmares in his life. He thought he had forgotten, but the past trauma triggered back today.
''I am sorry, Nick,'' Leena whispered, looking at his teary eyes. She could feel his body trembling, trying to hold back his emotions. Leena didnot know her words deeply inflicted him. Did something happen to him in the past to become as emotional as a cry baby?
''I am sorry, Nick. I will never hurt your feelings.'' Leena said, her voice gentle and coaxing. ''Please forgive this poor soul.''
''You better be.'' Nick turned to face Leena. He sulked a bit, but in the end, he gave up.
''Finally, my Nickolodeon brother is back.'' Leena squealed like a happy girl.
''Well, I am back.'' He chuckled, smiling at her. ''But I hate that Cartoon!''
''Says one who was binge-watching batman cartoon?'' Their conversation was flowing sweetly until Merl's topic was brought up.
''I want to marry her, Leena.'' He said in a serious tone. ''I can see the future with Merl.''
Marry that fake girl! No, way, she will allow. Leena thought.''A_re you sure about Merl?''
''Of course.'' Nick didnot bat an eye in answering her question. ''Are you perhaps thinking I am not sincere?''
''No, no. I didnot think in that way.'' Leena shook her head. ''I feel Merl is not sincere. She is playing with your feelings...''
Leena's breath hitched when Nick pushed her hand away.
''Nick, let me explain_''
''Why? Did Devin brainwash you?'' His voice, harsh and cold when he spoke. ''Earlier, it was him, and now, you started resenting her.. What harm had my Merl done to you? Like Devin, you have no gratitude even after she saved you.''
