Chapter 1442  Meetings in the dark II

"Are we sure this will be enough?" asked an Oolin, leaning forward, the lines of power on his body shining with a deep green hue. "Why don't we bring in this 'Innkeeper' who has triggered this change, unintentionally, as you claim? With reports that he's created a new bastion of human potential, surpassing the heritage of those descended directly from the first Kings, it is already clear that he is nurturing humans.

"I've also heard rumors that he is a master manipulator of Karma, and according to the latest internal report published in the Versalis Bank, it is suspected that he is nurturing a Seat of Power for himself. Such a being would surely increase the chances of our success greatly. Considering the fact that Ballom suspects he is the one kicking up a mess, confusing those who observe Karma, and obscuring the Destiny of the human race. I've heard much about the man whose eyes, black and gold, one to see the secrets of the universe and one to control them, were seen across the universe. I don't see why someone like that hasn't been approached yet."

Suddenly, the room went silent. It was an unspoken question so far, but it had finally been voiced, in a way. Knowingly or unknowingly, the Innkeeper had not only expedited their plans, he had also made them possible to begin with.

Among other things, by stirring the growth potential of the human race, he had elevated their position on the Cosmic Ascendance Spectrum and altered their Karma. He had, supposedly, altered the Destiny of the realm Henali. Some claimed that the phenomenon of eyes appearing universe wide were the Innkeepers eyes, though there was no proof of that.

Countless Devils who resided in the Midnight Inn had undergone a massive growth in base ability and potential, making the mythical Nephilim project an actual potential possibility - though no one understood why the Devils, as well as other humanoid races in the Midnight Realm suddenly experienced such an evolution.

There were too many things that were unknown about this person, and there were too many universe shaking things he was credited with. If they did not meet him for themselves, they would all feel like there was something that was being hidden from them. They would feel unsure about committing to the very dangerous plan that they were about to set into motion.

Every single being in this room had set off legends across the entire universe, and not a single one of them was a character that could be dismissed. So for some unknown being to suddenly show up and in a matter of a few years alter the trajectory of their plans in the entire universe, single handedly, without ever even showing up, made them feel like this was unreal.

Either they weren't as great as they thought they were, or this Innkeeper was a hell of a lot more powerful than he appeared to be - but both of those things were not easy to believe.

So now that the question had been finally asked, everyone turned to look at Ballom, who smirked in amusement.

He summoned a golden key in front of his hands and pushed it outwards.

"That is the key to the Midnight Inn. Why don't one of you go there and invite the Innkeeper over. I'm sure there won't be a problem - he's a very nice guy."

Everyone in the room exchanged looks, confused about what Ballom meant. The Oolin, however, reached out to the key and was about to crush it when his expression suddenly changed and he flung the ket far away.

"What the hell was that?" he roared, horror and fear in his voice.

"The key to the Midnight Inn. Didn't I just tell you?" Ballom asked, his voice innocent and confused.

"Don't play games with me. You know exactly what I meant. Why the hell did I get a death premonition from that key?"

"Oh that," Ballom said, as if finally realizing what the Oolin was referring to. "Well, I have it on very good account that the Innkeeper has accepted a very interesting new guest at the Inn. Here, one of my underlings at the Inn sent this to me from that very guest."

Ballom held up a single, orange colored hair as if it was nothing, yet almost everyone's expression suddenly changed.

"Wu Kong," the Oolin whispered.

"Yes, I believe you're right. So for the foreseeable future, or at least until the Innkeeper decides to keep him as a guest, the Midnight Inn probably won't be seeing any Dao Lords as guests."

"We could still send someone to extend an invite," the Oolin said weakly, but Ballom only gave him a wry look.

He remembered back when he first visited the Inn. He was impressed that the Innkeeper had a Celestial as a bodyguard - they were quite uptight about their pride to do stuff like that most of the time. But never in his wildest dreams did Ballom think that the Innkeeper would upgrade from a Celestial to that crazy monkey as a bodyguard.

He could not help but smile and wonder what exactly the Innkeeper was actually up to. Whatever it was, Ballom had not been able to figure it out yet, and he doubted it was something so simple. Only time would tell.

The meeting between Dao Lords continued, though no one mentioned the Innkeeper anymore

Back in the Uzuz realm, during the briefing about the Artica realm, Lex had turned his attention to more important things. Now that he was no longer concerned about spending his personal time at the Expo, he could get down to business and do what he had planned all along.

He was going to successfully and purposefully flirt with a pretty girl, and practice asking them out.

The only problem was, there weren't a lot of options available at the bank. Humans were, unsurprisingly, not so common in such places. Fortunately, elves weren't as rare, and Lex had a thing for redheads with pointy ears.
