Chapter 1633

As the waiter approached to assist, Ellinor loosened her grip, allowing him to escort Lea out.

After a minor hiccup, everyone seemed unbothered. But they reminded Ellinor not to risk her own safety for strangers in the future.

Yet Ellinor was still perplexed. The child didn’t appear to be slow-witted. She was articulate and sharp. Why then would she scramble upstairs to look for someone when she knew her family was waiting in the dining hall downstairs?

There was more to this than met the eye.

As she pondered over this, she caught sight of her youngest son, Tristan, sneaking out of the room while everyone else was distracted. She frowned but decided to keep quiet and watch. Then she got up and trailed him.

Having heard the waiter mention that Lea’s family was in the dining hall, Tristan suspected that his father might be there too. He wanted to check.

Once he slipped out, he hurriedly tried to catch up with the waiter and Lea. He was running too fast, so he missed a step and nearly tumbled down the stairs.

Fortunately, someone behind him managed to grab him just in time.

Still shaken, Tristan was about to thank his savior when he turned around and was shocked.

“Mom! What are you doing here?”

Ellinor had followed him out, not intending for him to notice. She wanted to see what he was up to. But alas, he nearly had an accident. She had no choice but to intervene.

“What are you sneaking off to do?”

Tristan was at a loss for words. How could he respond? “I… I just wanted to go downstairs and look.”

Ellinor narrowed her eyes sternly. Look at what?”

“Just look.”

Ellinor huffed. “Tell the truth. Are you familiar with the girl who wandered into our room just now? Did you want to follow her downstairs?”

His mother’s sharp intuition caught him off guard.

Tristan couldn’t deny it anymore. He pouted and confessed. “Yes… Mom, you’re so smart. I can’t hide anything from you.”

Ellinor raised an eyebrow. “So, you know you can’t fool me, yet you still try? Who is that little girl? How do you know her?”

Tristan sighed as he looked down in shame. “Technically, she should be my aunt”

Aunt? Ellinor was surprised. “What do you mean? Is she Sophia’s sister?”

Tristan nodded. “Yes, she is Sophia’s sister.”

Ellinor still doubted him. “But isn’t it rumored that Sophia is Thaddeus’s only daughter? How come she suddenly has a sister?”

“My aunt and Sophia have different mothers. Before my aunt was born, Sophia was indeed the only child. After my aunt came along, since she and her mother keep a low profile, many people don’t know about her or recognize her”

Ellinor pieced together this intricate puzzle in her head. Then another layer of the puzzle unfolded.

If that girl was Sophia’s sister, then the woman whose life Ellinor had saved by donating blood years ago was Sophia’s stepmother, and in turn, Thaddeus’ current, wife.
