Chapter 2228

Ivy was as slim as a willow but always in the pink of health. Whenever Balfour called her name, she’d respond with a voice crisp as autumn leaves, while leisurely going about her business.

But now, this once vivacious soul was lying still and silent, unresponsive to his calls, her eyes firmly shut.

The man sighed, a whisper of devotion escaping his lips, “Don’t worry, Ivy. No matter when you come around, I’ll be right here by your side,”

Colton and the producer made their way back to the chaotic film set.

Their absence had left the crew like a ship without its captains, adrift and unsure. It took Diana’s persuasion to get everyone to buck up. “Let’s get it together, folks. We’ll have everything shipshape for when the director gets back, so we’re not caught with our pants down over some props, right?”

Finally, the producer could steal a moment for a cigarette, dragging on it like it was his lifeline. “Alaric! Round up the crew, we’ve got some things to hash out.”

Diana dropped her smug act, her big doe eyes radiating anxiety as she approached them first.

Colton took a moment to thank her personally, “I’m a stickler for business, but I owe you one. Without you, I’d have come back to a real dumpster fire.”

Diana feigned guilt, “If only I’d been quicker… maybe Ivy wouldn’t have had this accident. I feel partly to blame.”

Surprised by her apparent sincerity, Colton and the producer wondered if she was playing a double game. Wasn’t she the one who looked down on everyone else, acting like the queen bee of the set,

determined not to be outshone by Ivy?

Colton had expected Diana to revel in Ivy’s hospitalization, but it appeared that the intricacies of female dynamics were too nuanced for him to grasp. Diana didn’t seem as thrilled as expected.

“The accident wasn’t your fault. These things happen. But we need to break down the sequence of events, so we can plug the gaps and prevent history from repeating itself.”

Diana nodded in agreement, “Of course.”

The rest of the crew was clueless until they were gathered together.

“I’ve got to break some tough news. Ivy was rushed to the hospital in time, but as of our return, she’s still not in good shape and remains unconscious.”

Gasps rippled through the crowd

“We could feel her faint breathing when we got her out of the water. How could she still be out like a light?’ one of the lifeguards asked, anxious not to be blamed

Another colleague was more composed, not believing himself to be the cause of the mishap

“To rule out suspicions from each person, I’d like everyone to come with me and take a look”

Suspicions?

When Colton framed it like that, murmurs spread. Why suspect foul play in what seemned like an accident?

A crew member blurted out, “Why’s that, Colton? It happened in broad daylight, right in front of us. Ivy’s accident was her own doing. How could we be involved? We’re not suspects!”
