Chapter 48 - The Incident From Back Then
Chapter 48 - The Incident From Back Then
After Luo Ziling got off, Ouyang Feifei’s car did not drive off immediately. Instead, she called Ouyang Huihui over
A few minutes later, Ouyang Huihui was seated beside her.
“Sis, let me go in by myself. It’s only a few hundred meters away,” pleaded Ouyang Huihui in a quiet voice.
“No need to rush things.” Ouyang Feifei stared coldly into her sister’s eyes. Without even an ounce of emotion on her face, she said, “Tell me every single detail of what actually happened today.”
Fearing what her sister might do to her, Ouyang Huihui didn’t even attempt to lie when she explained the progression of events that unfolded one after the other today. That included how she toyed with Luo Ziling and how that asshole took advantage of her. As the cherry on top, she made sure to put on a pitiful look in front of Ouyang Feifei. “Sis, that unscrupulous man was taking advantage of me! I was angered by that.”
Ouyang Feifei maintained her icy expression. “Has it ever crossed your mind what consequences your actions of today might bring about for our family?”
Ouyang Huihui desperately tried to make up an excuse to defend herself. “But sis, I never thought it would turn out this way. That Li Dongjun’s a pig! Who would’ve thought that he would suddenly bring out a gun?”
“If that man was killed by Li Dongjun’s bodyguard, not only would both Li Dongjun and his bodyguard be dead by morning, our entire family would be crushed too.”
Ouyang Feifei’s words made her sister jump in fear. She decided to say nothing further.
“I think I should set some things straight for you!”
“What things?” asked Ouyang Huihui curiously.
“Luo Ziling’s true identity!”
Ouyang Huihui’s eyes lit up in interest. Tugging her sister’s hand, she urged, “Sis, hurry up, tell me about it! Just what sort of background does this stink bug have?”
“20 years ago, something happened here in Yenching that shocked every member of the ruling elite.” Ouyang Feifei started her story. “At that time, the prettiest woman of Yenching, Ling Ruonan, was supposedly engaged to Yang Yunfeng of the Yang family. It wasn’t very long before their scheduled marriage.”
“During winter of that year, the old man of the Ling family was so gravely ill that he had almost passed away. In the nick of time, a well-known doctor called Luo Liansheng saved his life. While tending to the old man’s sickness, his son, Luo Xusheng always tagged along with him.
“It didn’t take long for Luo Xusheng to warm up to Ling Ruonan. A little while later, Ling Ruonan discovered that she had become pregnant. No matter how they persuaded her, she was adamant in her decision not to finalize her marriage with Yang Yunfeng. Seizing an opportunity, she escaped together with Luo Xusheng. The news soon spread, and feeling heavily humiliated, the abandoned groom, alongside his underlings, began a nationwide hunt for his fiance.”
Ouyang Feifei stopped her story.
She stopped at the most crucial point of the story, which prompted the now excited Ouyang Huihui to plead for her to continue. “Go on, sis!”
“In the end, Yang Yunfeng died mid-search. Luo Xusheng had supposedly been sent to the highlands in the West and at the same time, Ling Ruonan had borne a son, who she named Luo Ziling. It was about three months after his birth that his grandfather brought him to the Northwest where he would grow up under the old man’s care.”
“Huh?! So that’s his story!” Ouyang Huihui’s jaw was agape upon hearing the story. “If that’s so, isn’t that brat pretty pitiful? To grow up without ever seeing his own parents?”
Ouyang Feifei nodded her head silently.
“Then how did he manage to get into Yenching University?” asked the perplexed Ouyang Huihui.
“I guess it was through sheer effort. Oh, Luo Ziling. His father must’ve had a pretty passionate love, huh?”
Ouyang Feifei gave a weird smile.
“Ling Ruonan’s current position sets her apart from the rest. She has the entire Northern Group in her grasp and is the sole reason why her family remains relevant till this day. But why didn’t she allow her son back to Yenching earlier? To reunite with his family?” asked the confused Ouyang Huihui.
“The Yang family must’ve pressured her against doing so.”
“But the Ling family is much more powerful than the Yangs. Why are they submitting to a smaller foe?”
Ouyang Huihui understood that both the Ling and Yang families belonged to the upper echelons. Both families wielded extreme levels of influence and was not something that the Ouyangs could even match up to. Even though they were less powerful than the Ouyangs financially-speaking, they were not to be underestimated.
In all aspects, the Ling family was stronger than the Yang family. Ling Ruonan’s grandfather, Ling Jinhua, used to be a leading figure in their nation and her father, Ling Mingrui, was currently one of the most influential men in the nation. Apart from that, many members of their family held high positions in the essential departments of the government.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that there weren’t any other families that were stronger than the Ling family. So why did they fear the Yang family so much? Why did they choose to bow down?
“There must be a reason that we do not know of,” replied Ouyang Feifei. She then added, “To be honest, grandpa just told me this story two days ago.”
“Huh?! So you’ve also just been told about this?” Ouyang Huihui was astonished.
Ouyang Feifei remained silent as she waited for her sister to get out of the car.
Ouyang Huihui did not, however, exit the vehicle. Her eyes rolled around as she searched through her mind for something when it finally surfaced out of nowhere. Curious, she asked her sister another question. “Tell me sis, if Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin were to bump into each other, would they become mortal enemies? Yang Qingyin’s studying here too, y’know? Hee hee!”
Although Ouyang Feifei’s lips did not move, her heart did a little flutter in reaction.
“Hmph! Yang Qingyin’s nothing but a plain Jane and yet she always acts like a Miss Know-it-all! I say, she’s miles behind you and not even comparable to me in terms of looks. Rest assured, I will take the title of Miss Yenching University in no time. Hee hee, I really hope they’ll bump into each other someday. Then, they best get into a fight. It’ll definitely be a once in a lifetime show!”
At that moment, Ouyang Huihui was grinning mischievously as she thought about her plans for anarchy.
Yang Qingyin was the princess of the Yang family and the daughter of Yang Yunfeng’s brother, Yang Yunling. Like Ouyang Feifei, she was also declared by many as Yenching’s most beautiful girl.
In fact, a great deal of people referred to Yang Qingyin and Ouyang Feifei as the “Twin pearls of Yenching”, reflecting how on par they were in terms of beauty.
“Well, I hope that they don’t bump into each other. For the coming two years at least,” said Ouyang Feifei casually.
“Sis, why’d you think that? Don’t tell me you’re scared that…” A look of surprise appeared on Ouyang Huihui’s face and she mysteriously stopped halfway through her sentence.
Ouyang Feifei’s mouth was curled into a bewitching smile.
Ouyang Huihui started panicking upon seeing that. Despite this, she didn’t know what else to say to defuse the situation.
“If Ling Ruonan was to be informed about today’s incident, she would definitely not be happy about this.” Ouyang Feifei’s expression softened up quite a bit. “It’s a miracle that he escaped unscathed. From now on, I want you to stay away from him. Stop giving him trouble, okay?”
“Fine, I understand.” Ouyang Huihui pouted. Although she was still feeling bitter about what had just happened, she still made the promise.
“I never expected him to come from such a powerful family,” sighed Ouyang Feifei. She sounded audibly surprised.
What’s more, she knew perfectly well what Li Dongjun’s bodyguard was capable of.
Although he wasn’t what you’d call a master in martial arts, he was still able to take down three or four fully-grown men in a brawl.
To be able to fend off his attackers alone and even manage to severely injure Li Dongjun in the process, this man must be quite the fighter.
Unexpectedly, she became slightly more interested in this seemingly meek little boy.
