Chapter 250 Current Tally of Wins and Losses
Chapter 250 Current Tally of Wins and Losses
Starfire College managed to drag back a win, by narrowly defeating Dark Moon's first years in the 3-vs-3 competition.
However, since Jacob's scorpion was the undisputed center of the other sides strategies due to his offensive power, when his scorpion was practically out of commission due to the match with Serena, they quickly fell apart in the 5-vs-5 battle. Shamefully resulting one of the fastest match endings of a match between 2 colleges within the top 5.
Therefore, winning 2 matches, to 1 loss, Dark Moon continued its undefeated streak.
After defeating Starfire College, the next two matches were quite leisurely, as they were against the only two remaining schools outside of the top—Lunaris Vale Academy and Nebula Taming Academy.
Kain didn't need to partake in the fight against Lunaris Vale again. Elysara's contracts had gotten seriously injured in a fight against First Celestial the day before, therefore she was unable to take on the responsibility of the single person match. None of her peers were as threatening as her, therefore Dark Moon was able to dispatch their entire team using only Soren, Kairos, and Ranya.
Nebula Taming had been on a losing streak since the top 8 began, and had been considered the weakest among those that got to this stage. Even their advancement to the top 8 had been partially attributed to luck. All of their opponents up until the top 16 had been among the weakest within the entire tournament, and so they had managed to advance without being drained of too much energy.
However, there were no weak opponents within the top 16, and in fact their opponent was even ranked slightly higher than them. However, unlike Nebula's lucky streak since the tournament began, their opponents had been mired by a string of bad luck. Experience more tales on mvl
Their first two opponents since the tournament began were much weaker than them, both happened to have students that used poisons. Therefore, even though they managed to easily defeat them, and antidotes were provided, there did seem to be some sequela remaining from the poisons that continued to affect the contracts of two of their first-year students even days later.
To compensate for their slightly weakened comrades, the others had to pull their weight more and overextend themselves in the following battles, leading to them also suffering more minor injuries and being more exhausted than one would expect considering they were a college that had always consistently ranked within the top 20.
Finally, when it got to the top 16, all of these little events that gradually chipped away at their strength showed their effect, and they lost against the lower ranked Nebula Taming, who nobody had expected to advance into the top 8.
After Nebula's unconvincing advancement, there had been many calls to change the tournament rules and either allow an additional team eliminated to advance like in previous rounds to create a top 9, or have a round robin format starting from the top 16.
However, considering the amount of time it would take to arrange for every college within the top 16 to face one another, this proposal was promptly vetoes by the tournament organizers.
Instead, when questioned on if the controversy over the advancement of Nebula Taming Academy would have an adverse effect on the reputation of the tournament and the validity of the assigned rankings, the only reply from the organizers was that "great luck is also a form of strength."
Therefore, while irritated, fans of the tournament did not continue to kick up a fuss, since they knew their efforts would be fruitless in the end. But even still, whenever Nebula Taming took the stage there would always be a noticeable dip in the liveliness of the crowd, and loud cheers for their opponent, even if you didn't necessarily support the opposing team.
Honestly, seeing their haggard faces, Kain couldn't help but pity them. Clearly, what should have been a moment of great joy for their college since this was the first time any year from their college had managed to advance to the top 8, which would have a huge boost to their college's ranking and resources in the coming year, was now stained with a feeling of shame.
Clearly the mental impact from the audience's lack of support was so severe that it adversely impacted their performance. When they performed poorly, the audience looked down on their ranking even more and got even harsher in their criticisms. And so a vicious cycle with the first-years of Nebula Taming was born.
By the time Kain and the others had to face them, they barely put up any resistance and were practically just shoved down and conceded defeat.
Therefore, Dark Moon's first years had managed to win all 5 of the 7 matches they must participate in: Supernova College, Starfire College, Lunaris Vale Academy, Starlight College, and Nebula Taming Academy. The only opponents remaining were Frozen Sun and First Celestial, who also happened to be the first year teams with the most amount of wins under their belts. First Celestial, like Dark Moon, has a perfect record until now, while Frozen Sun had only lost 1 to 2 against First Celestial.
First Celestial's performance had been similar to Dark Moon's up until now, managing to defeat most of their opponents within the first 2 matches.
On the other hand, Frozen Sun was a complete anomaly in that they had lost nearly every single 1-on-1 match they'd participated in so far. However, they've managed to obtain victory in almost every single team match so far. The only team match they'd lost was a narrow defeat against First Celestial in the 5-on-5 match, after losing the singles match and winning the 3-on-3 match against them.
Therefore, Frozen Sun's wins were a result of consistently losing the 1-on-1 matches, and then sweeping the remaining team matches.
Clearly, likely as a result of the more homogenous affinities of the students at Frozen Sun, they were a school that specialized in team battles.
They were also the next opponents of Kain and the others within the tournament.
