Chapter 253 Frozen Sun (3)
Chapter 253 Frozen Sun (3)
Kain stood at the center of the chaos, adrenaline pumping through his veins as he absorbed the weight of the knowledge Bea had relayed. The impending threat of Frozen Cascade loomed over their group, and he knew that if they were to survive, they needed a plan—fast.
Their thoughts bounced off of one another until they eventually settled on a reasonable solution. As a spiritual skill, it was reliant on the beast-tamers working in tandem to execute it. That is also likely the reason why they did not use this skill against First Celestial previously and lost that 5-on-5 match. Kain vaguely remembered that one of their team members was accidentally injured in the 3-on-3, and therefore was not fit to bare the strain from activating the group spiritual skill.
It's not customary in this tournament to attack the beast-tamers, especially if they don't take to the initiative to enter the battle. Therefore, under the coverage of the skills their contracts just launched which makes it difficult for Kain and the others to sense their movements, they were probably already preparing to launch the skill.
The average opponent would be spending their time hunting down their spiritual creatures and not the beast-tamers, therefore they felt secure in their next actions. Read new chapters at mvl
If they wanted to prevent Frozen Cascade's launch, then they must go against the normal social norms of the tournament and instead focus on hunting down the beast-tamers.
Kairos' cursed book flipped to a page and after the activation of the sigils on that page, a 3D projection of the stage suddenly appeared with over 30 dots of various colours. Based on their locations, Kain could tell that the 17 white dots were the 12 spiritual contracts of Kain and the others, plus the 5 beast-tamers themselves.
On the other side were 18 black dots representing the enemy, however it wasn't easily distinguishable which dots were of the beast-tamers and which were their contracts.
With a thought, Kairos eliminated all of the white dots, so that their group only had to focus on the black.
Then with the lightning-fast exchange of information that Bea allowed, Ranya and Kain quickly provided the last known location information they had for the spiritual creatures either touched by the illusory or real mental threads.
Cross-referencing the last known locations with the current locations, they were roughly able to eliminate guess the identity of the remaining dots—although the locations of many changed too much to be accurately identified.
However, they could see that 5 dots that were previously far apart, were suspiciously making their way towards one another. Making note of their locations, Kain asked Aegis to disrupt the surrounding terrain at those locations and delay their regrouping.
At the same time the remaining Vespid guards, boosted by Queen, were ordered to travel in groups of 3 to harass the opponents' contracts and prevent them from protecting their beast-tamers.
However, although with the reduced growth time following evolution Kain did manage to restore their numbers back to 15, after the mass death toll in the fight against Nikolai, they were still far from enough to be able to restrain all of the opponents' spiritual creatures.
But Kain chose not to have them travel in smaller groups in order to be conservative and reduce the likelihood of anymore dying before they had to face First Celestial.
Therefore, with Aegis focused on preventing the beast-tamers from getting together, and 5 of the opposing contracts being preoccupied by the 3 guards each, the eight remaining spiritual creatures on the other side were divided up between Kairos and Soren. Of course, while their main role was to prevent them from supporting their contractors, neither Kain nor the others gave up on actually eliminating the opponents if they had a chance.
At the same time, Ranya contributed her illusion abilities to disorienting the opposing beast-tamers and further reducing the likelihood of regrouping.
Based on the map still being shared by Kairos, while 2 of the opposing people had managed to overcome the blockades created by Aegis to approach a location probably designated beforehand, 1 was not as resourceful and stuck in place, while the other 2 had actually begun moving in the opposite direction—likely due to Ranya.
Meanwhile, Ranya's third contract happened to stumble across Soren's lightning attribute while traveling through the mist and snow on stage. Therefore, it took advantage of the opponent the dragon was fighting being unaware of its presence, to make it appear as though it was being attacked from all sides by the lightning skill, heightening the chaos. After its elimination, the number of beasts on each side was now even.
The other 2 opposing beast-tamers, unconsciously moved in the wrong direction until they were practically on top of Kain's group of 5. Seeing that the enemy was waiting in what they thought was their meet up location, their eyes widened in shock.
However, before they could think of any defensive measures or regroup, Serena had already taken action.
One of the constellations on the Starweaver lit up—this one unfortunately very familiar to Kain. Suddenly a golden shower of starlight fell on the defenseless enemy and turned them into golden statues which were then promptly carried off the stage by a gust of wind summoned by her Elemental Guardian.
Sensing that something had happened to their masters, 5 spiritual creatures suddenly became distracted and roared in anxiety. Taking advantage of the distraction, their opponents took the opportunity to launch heavy blows that they'd already prepared beforehand after receiving the information that 2 of the opposing humans were about to be eliminated.
Now that they were down to only 3 human and 7 spiritual creatures, the remaining battle ended fairly quickly.
Since one of the eliminated creatures had been responsible for maintaining the storm covering the field, visibility began to improve, allowing both the audience and the opponents to see that Frozen Sun was now at a huge numerical disadvantage.
The audience erupted into cheers, however rather than it being due to Dark Moon appearing to have one, it was more so to do with the annoying storm that blocked their vision finally being removed.
Once the vision on the field was obstructed, it had been quite boring for those watching.
Now, although they missed the majority of the battle, they could still catch the tail end of the drama.
