Chapter 291The Vault's Secret [4]

Chapter 291The Vault's Secret [4]

Returning back to reality, Ren found a curious and excited Lily waiting in front of him, impatiently waiting for his reply.

Clearing his mind, Ren responded to Lily's excited expression with a monotone voice.

"I'll think about it."

She had won this debate, and it wasn't hard for Ren to see that.

But she hadn't won over his mind just yet.

Seeing Lily's expression turn into one of agitation, Ren pointed at the filled-in gap that led to the outside before asking.

"Shall we go?"

There was nothing left to be done in this room.

Ren had no intentions of releasing a mystical beast capable of killing millions of people into the world.

And, if he wanted to take a magical artifact from one of the shelves, he would have to weaken the seal that was trapping the mystical beast.

Accepting his loss, Ren turned to Lily, who was nodding while walking towards the gap.

Scratching his head, Ren halted mid-walk before saying to Lily, who was ahead of him.

"Any chance you can put in a good word for me? I'm pretty sure this exit is guarded to the brim, and if I even step foot outside, my head will go flying off."

Turning back to face Ren, Lily said in the most monotone voice she could manage.

"I'll think about it."

"...really? My life is on the line here, you know?"

Walking backward toward the hole while still facing me, Lily tilted her head before replying.

"You asked for it, though. You drilled through the obsidian door and completely knocked it over, not even mentioning that giant hole you made in the ceiling."

Avoiding Lily's gaze, Ren sarcastically replied.

"Oh, what did you want me to do? Just walk up to you and ask for the vault key, and then be on my way?"

"I mean, that would have work-"

"Oh yeah, I was just supposed to know that you were going to take me on a personalized tour of the vault and actually help me."

Shaking her head with a smile, Lily turned back to face the gap before saying.

"Don't try to act so nervous and scared. You must have some sort of escape plan. How would you escape with the magical artifacts if they were actually here?"

Taking out his smartwatch, Ren nodded at Lily's words before opening up the messages application.

[Ren: You two done yet?]

[Raven: Boss, you better some brought back some damn good treasure. I did not SPEND MORE THAN THREE HOURS IN THE CAVE WITH ZENG, JUST TUNNELING FOR YOU TO SHOW UP HANDED. I BETTER SEE THE MOST POWERFUL AND VICIOUS MAGICAL ARTIFACTS ON YOU!]

Looking up from his smartwatch, Ren glanced at Lily before saying.

"You're sure there are no magical artifacts here I can take, right?"

Pointing at the shelves of random objects behind, Lily shrugged her shoulders and sarcastically replied.

"I mean, you can take them, but the seal holding the mystical beast will weaken. If you're willing to take that risk and allow it to escape, then don't let me stop you!"

Sighing, Ren turned back to face his smartwatch before awkwardly typing.

[Ren: YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT I GOT!!! THIS VAULT DEFINITELY LIVED UP TO ITS NAME!]

[Raven: You only type in all caps when you're lying or being sarcastic.]

[Ren: Can't I be excited? I mean, I would snap you a photo, but I'm kinda in a rush, you know, a bunch of people just waiting for me to exit so they can kill me.]

[Raven: You can spend a second taking a picture.]

[Ren: Where's the tunnel Raven? The coordinates.]

[Raven: Where's the picture, boss? The insane magical artifact you have.]

As Lily approached the gap and turned around to face Ren, waiting for him to dismiss the material blocking their way out, Ren rapidly typed.

[Ren: Raven, my life is on the line; don't do this right now.]

[Raven: Here's a puzzle with the coordinates. Multiply the number of days in a year by the number of countries, then add the total number of sides on a hexagon and octagon combined; the position of "E" in the alphab-]

[Ren: Raven, don't bullshit me right now.]

[Raven: 25.5° N, 14.1° E]

[Ren: Oh yeah, that really fucking helps. If only I knew how to calculate coordinates when I'm UNDERGROUND IN A VAULT!]

[Raven: Right above me, there's a massive crater in the ceiling.]

[Ren: Do you see the hole in the ground from my original tunnel?]

[Raven: It's a couple of meters south from me.]

Using my enhanced eyesight, Ren had already memorized the exact layout of the underground space outside the vault.

Visualizing the underground space in his head, Ren used Raven's details to calculate exactly where the new hole was.

Then, Ren plotted a line between where the gap in the obsidian wall was and the entrance to Raven's tunnel.

After calculating the slope of that line to find the average speed, Ren finally rubbed his head and let out a sigh.

Walking up to Lily, Ren said in an eerily calm voice.

"I'll have to go first."

Patting Ren on the shoulder, Lily replied.

"I'll try to get everyone to go easy on you if you're caught!"

"Thanks a ton!"

Leaving Lily with his parting sarcastic words, Ren scaled the wall until finally he reached the filled-in hole.

Placing his hand on the physical corruption that filled in the hole, Ren took one last glance at Lily.

Feeling the blood-red substance gathered in the chest, Ren carefully maneuvered until it finally made contact with the ocean-blue liquid mana.

Since he had just replenished his mana, it would be more efficient for him to use an ocean-blue and blood-red wing instead of a pitch-black and blood-red wing.

Ren hadn't used the two different types of wings enough to discern if there were any differences in them besides the color, but he had always preferred to use the pitch-black and blood-red wing as he always had more corruption inside his body than mana.
