Skylar thought it was weird that Clara needed to speak to him without Yulia present.
Still, he drew close to the door and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Clara held her gaze up to meet his and said, “My best friend, Yanice, wants to meet with you about something. She needs a favor.”
Skylar gave a nod.
Oh, so that was what it was all about.
It explained the need for a private conversation.
From Yulia’s standpoint, it was weird for Clara to ask her brother-in-law for a meetup on behalf of her best friend anyway.
“What can I do to help?” Skylar inquired.
Although Skylar was not too fond of Yanice in the beginning, their paths crossed again at Veilstone Hills.
It was only then he realized that despite her aloof demeanor, Yanice was soft and squishy inside.
Yanice was not able to lend him any help, but she meant well and was genuinely concerned about him.
No wonder she was best friends with Clara.
Skylar was glad to do Yanice a favor seeing that she was seeking help through Clara.
It was no biggie since Skylar was not going out of his way.
Clara shook her head at the question. “Yanice didn’t say, but I know her well enough to assume it has something to do with her marriage.
“The Masons adopt a traditional gender role and patriarchal values. Her family has been using Yanice’s marriage as a means of acquiring resources.
“But Yanice has been fighting this. The situation has reached a stalemate for a while.
“That was why I let her help you with Jaiden’s contract, and she agreed to Jaiden’s request.
“Although she doesn’t see Jaiden the same way, Jaiden always has feelings for her.
“Yanice told me that she would rather marry someone who likes her than some trust baby who she hasn’t even met.”
Skylar fell deep into his thoughts for a while before answering, “I’ll need to have a moment with Yulia about this.”
Clara nodded her head in affirmation.
As Skylar returned to the living room, Yulia asked her the purpose of Clara’s visit.
Skylar repeated the whole story to Yulia.
In the end, he hesitantly asked, “Yulia, I’ll take your advice on whether to get involved with the matter. It’s your call.”
Yulia would not be comfortable with Skylar interfering in a marriage if the latter did not put it that way. It was not their place after all.
Now that Skylar expressed that she had a voice, Yulia was moved and wanted to be as thoughtful in return.
After giving it some thought, she uttered, “Yanice has a b*tch resting face, but she’s a softie underneath it all.
“A marriage is for a lifetime, and it’s linked to a woman’s happiness. If it doesn’t take much of your time, you should help her.”
With Yulia giving him the word, Skylar had no reason to say no.
He gave a nod and replied, “Sure. I’ll go and meet her with Clara to see if I can help in any way.”
“Daddy, are you going out again?”
Tugging onto the hem of Skylar’s shirt, Lola reluctantly asked.
Skylar picked her up and kissed her chubby cheek.
“Sweetheart, Aunt Clara needs my help, but you should end the game of hopscotch with Mommy.
“Let’s draw on Mommy’s face when I get back.”
Skylar whispered in Lola’s ear, tickling the little girl’s funny bones.
“Go on, Daddy. I’ll wait for you at home.”
“Okay. That’s my good girl.”
After snuggling up to the little girl for a while, Skylar followed Clara out of Floccessy Tower
