Chapter 282 - 282 Unleashing True Strength.

282 Unleashing True Strength.

Valerian did not understand what Cupido was talking about. He was alerted by the quick and heavy thumps in the distance. He could tell that something was approaching him, and it was fast. He looked at Cupido and plucked another note from his musical instrument.

The mana threads on her body tightened again, and Cupido gasped in pain. She did not expect this young man to be so ruthless. She said, “What are you doing?”

Valerian said, “I do not have much time before I am in danger again. Now will you undo the spell, or do you want me to kill you to break this spell?”

Cupido was shocked. She asked, “You mean you will kill me?”

Valerian gazed at her with a cold set of eyes and nodded. However, he did not hide his thoughts. Cupido wanted to morph into her natural form, but the blockage of mana points had washed away her dreams too. Ultimately, the lady withdrew her spell, and Valerian realized his mind had turned lighter.

He opened his eyes, and with a strum on the Filum Vita, he dissolved all the threads tying Cupido. The young man could sense the thumping on the ground was getting heavier and closer to him too. Without thinking much, the young man put away his instrument and took out the ancient wooden sword.

Cupido had just recovered from the binding’s strain when she spotted Valerian rushing away with a green sword on his back. She clenched her teeth and wanted to run after him when a voice sounded, “You lost, come back.”

The lady glowed with a green light and turned into a slender green dragon. Her body glowed as if made of emerald. She said, “Your majesty, this is not fair.”

Fortuna replied, “You think he will not dare to kill you? He is not an average human who would prostrate himself to you because of your status. You need to earn his respect, do not be a sore loser. Come back. Gladis is about to engage in combat.”

.....

...

Valerian had taken out the green sword for two reasons. One was to fight off any spells cast against him, and the second was to fight the approaching trouble. Valerian noticed that the direction of the thumps had changed along with his actions. He was thinking about how to find out more information about this situation. The young man took out a few beads and wanted to cast a few spells.

However, the thumps stopped suddenly, and Valerian tasted sour in his mouth. He looked around and found that he had arrived at a clearing. Then, just when he was about to turn back and run back to the woods, a black shadow fell before him.

The young man knew that it was of no use to run back to the woods. The source of his threat was already in front of him. He stood in the clearing, looking at the black dragon before him. This dragon was twice as giant as Fortuna, and even Arma was smaller than this guy.

Valerian gripped the sword’s hilt on his back and wanted to bow when the dragon said, “You can give up on the etiquettes, human child. I want to see if you can even stand in my presence.”

The young man raised his brow and asked, “How shall I convince you?”

The black dragon said, “Defeat me in a battle. If you can, then I will acknowledge you.”

Valerian chuckled and said, “If I defeated you, your acknowledgment would be unimportant.”

The black dragon snorted. Valerian cast multiple light spells to illuminate the dark clearing. The dragon was as dark as the night sky, and for some reason, his scales were not reflecting too much light from the moon.

The dragon did not object and directly moved from the spot. Valerian thought that this gigantic creature must have some weakness. That weakness might be anything, but it was not his speed. Valerian raised the sword, but the attack was already upon him. A menacing claw had landed against his blades.

The ancient wood sword held its end, but Valerian did not intend to use his muscles to endure the impact, so the young man jumped on his own when the claw touched his sword. The kinetic energy inside his body sent him flying, and the young man landed on his back. His body did not stop before he made a few rolls on the ground.

The black dragon was not going easy on Valerian and attacked the young man before he could regain his balance. Valerian understood the reality. This battle had a high risk of death. His brain sprang into action when the black dragon approached him. The boy cast a light flash spell before his eyes, disorienting the dragon.

Valerian side-rolled and avoided a claw landing in the last spot he was in. He returned to his feet the next moment, and his sword flashed. The green sword might be made from wood, but the sharpness and toughness of this blade were not to be taken lightly. The slash chipped off a few scales from the dragon claw.

The clearing rang with a roar.

...

While the three guardians watched things unfold eagerly, Fortuna rested with her eyes closed. Cupido saw this and asked, “Your majesty, this child does not seem to know how to harness a magical bond’s power.”

Fortuna hummed in response, saying that Cupido was correct and Valerian was unaware of the power he could harness from the bond between them.

The green dragon chuckled and said, “Then, he has no chance to stand against Gladis.”

At this moment, Fortuna raised her head, glanced at Cupido, and said, “You mean to say that Gladis is better than the three of you?”

Cupido was stumped for a response. She did not expect her shark tongue to injure herself. Gale saw this, and the corner of her mouth curled slightly upward. She said, “This child is not your average human. He is someone to be careful while handling.”

Cupido glared at her, and Arma said, “Cupido, a dragon may be one of the strongest, but we are not invincible. He is not completely grown yet. Did you forget the labors his mother achieved? Or the horror of the Eastern Tyrant?”

Cupido snapped, “Don’t you dare to mention that bastard. I will tear him to shreds for what he did to Gladis.”

Fortuna interjected and said, “I can assure you of one thing, Cupido. You are not the only one who desires to settle accounts with that man. However, before all of us, someone is fueled with endless hatred for that guy.”

Cupido cast her a glance and said, “Your majesty, pardon my offense, but this child does not have what it takes to kill the tyrant.”

Fortuna replied, “Yet. Allow me to show you his true strength, then.”

Arma said in a low voice, “Your Majesty, it is forbidden for others to intervene in a trial.”

Fortuna chuckled and said, “Calm down, minister Arma. I am not going to intervene. Instead, Instead, I will give him a little motivational push.”

This sentence got everyone curious. They wanted to see what Fortuna would do. The leaders of dragons could communicate with anyone while they were on the throne peak. Fortuna closed her eyes, and her thoughts were channeled to Valerian directly.

...

Valerian was fighting with the black dragon, but he was meticulous and calculative in his attacks, as he dodged a tail whip and opened up some distance between himself and the opponent. Then, suddenly, he heard Fortuna’s voice, “Do you remember the guy you saw during the vision at the river of time?”

Valerian froze, and Fortuna continued, “That guy fought with the black dragon before you. If you cannot even defeat him, do you think you will have a chance to deal with that guy? Do not think you still have chances to improve. Even with the blocked continent, that man is growing stronger. Do you understand? Defeat this opponent if you truly wish to become stronger. Do not hold back.”

These words sparked a fire in Valerian’s heart. His gaze became calm when he looked at the black dragon a few meters away. Then he channeled his battle aura and mana to the limit.

His entire body was covered with a crimson aura, like battle armor. He held a wooden sword in his hand, and his eyes were glowing silver. It was like a monster had stepped on the battlefield. Yet, he was like a different person altogether. The black dragon was shocked to see the change.

Valerian used the battle aura and mana to the most efficient level he could and became a shadow. The speed increase and maneuverability were so agile that the black dragon had difficulty tracking this child.

The random movements did not make it easy, but suddenly, the black dragon sensed warmth under his belly. He did not get a hold of when Valerian left a sharp wound on his belly. This warmth did not stop, instead spread to the limbs and joints too. Gladis was unable to move. His defeat was confirmed.
