Chapter 2599 A Familial Discovery
If humans wished to progress further and upgrade their bloodlines, they often had to trace the root beast and identify one compatible with them. Unlike beasts, human bloodlines couldn't naturally purify to ascend to the next tier. As such, humans were limited to acquiring external sources. Lin Mu would face this challenge with his Slumber Bear Bloodline once he reached the Celestial Realm, as that was the known limit of the Great Slumber Bear Bloodline.
While he could technically continue with it, the benefits would become increasingly limited. Upgrading a bloodline brought numerous advantages while retaining the abilities of the previous one. Thus, Lin Mu wouldn't lose the Well of Slumber's capabilities, which, despite its disadvantages, remained highly useful.
Lin Mu conversed with the Flood Dragon briefly before turning his attention to the Blue Drake.
"How did you get here?" Lin Mu asked Qiulong Jiao. "I mean, you were probably in the Capital City."
"I sensed the flaring of a Dragonic Aura and got curious. But when I approached, I saw the snakelings in battle. I observed for a while and intervened when things became serious," Qiulong Jiao replied.
'He was watching all this time?' The Blue Drake was alarmed. 'I didn't sense him at all… Damn, things could've gone horribly wrong if I hurt the snakes too much.' The Drake realized that, given the Flood Dragon's power, he wouldn't have survived an ambush.
There would have been no way to evade an attack of that caliber. Having witnessed the Flood Dragon's might, the Blue Drake understood he was no match for him. Even though both were at the Seventh Tribulation Stage of the Immortal Realm, Qiulong Jiao's centuries of experience far surpassed his own.
"Thanks for your concern and help. I truly appreciate it," Lin Mu said with gratitude.
"It's no problem. I couldn't let the kids get hurt," Qiulong Jiao chuckled.
"If they got hurt, it wouldn't just be me coming," Lin Mu said, glancing upward.
Someone else was hovering above, hidden among the clouds.
The Saintess, having sensed the twins' distress, had followed Lin Mu. She had marked the twins and would know if they were in danger. As the Ancestral Serpent of the Serpent Moon Sect, she would never allow them to suffer unnecessarily. She could have obliterated the entire forest with a mere flick of her hand.
"Oh?" Qiulong Jiao looked up but couldn't see anyone.
The twins, however, sensed the Saintess's presence.
"Saintess!" they cried, rushing to her side.
SHUA
"Saintess!" they cried, rushing to her side.
SHUA
Her form became visible, and Qiulong Jiao could finally see her.
The moment their eyes met, the Flood Dragon shuddered. His blood ran cold, sweat formed on his back, and he found it difficult to breathe. Despite the veil covering her face, her petrifying gaze was enough to overwhelm him.
'Truly terrifying,' Qiulong Jiao thought. 'Is this the Celestial backing him?'
Quickly, he averted his gaze, cupped his hands, and bowed deeply in respect.
"You have my thanks as well," the Saintess's voice rang in his ears.
"It was the least I could do," Qiulong Jiao responded humbly.
He dared not ask further questions, recognizing she wasn't someone he could casually converse with.
'The little drake narrowly avoided an even greater calamity than I imagined,' Qiulong Jiao mused.
Fortunately for the Blue Drake, the Saintess didn't direct her gaze at him. Had she done so, he would have likely fainted on the spot.
If Qiulong Jiao could kill him with a single strike, the Saintess could erase him with a mere thought.
"Who are you, child?" Qiulong Jiao asked.
"Senior, I am the Blue Drake, Ao De Zuzu," the Blue Drake answered.
"Hmm… What's your lineage?" Qiulong Jiao questioned. "You're a Blue Drake living here, which is unusual. Why aren't you in the ocean with the rest of your kin?"
"I… was forbidden from going to the ocean by my mother," Ao De Zuzu admitted.
"Forbidden? Why?" Qiulong Jiao asked, puzzled.
Lin Mu, too, was curious. He hadn't considered the Blue Drake's condition before. No one in the Empire knew about it, either. Most assumed he was simply eccentric, and with his cultivation base, few could challenge him—except perhaps Emperor Feng, who was unlikely to bother.
"I don't know the exact reason, senior. My mother and father were driven away long ago. My mother told me the ocean was dangerous and unsafe for them. She also said her mother—my grandmother—had been killed because of it," Ao De Zuzu explained.
"What are their names?" Qiulong Jiao asked, his expression serious.
"My mother was De Wanan, my father was Ao Yure, and my grandmother was De Lanbiu," Ao De Zuzu answered.
"De Lanbiu!?" Qiulong Jiao exclaimed in surprise.
"You know them?" Lin Mu asked, noting his reaction.
"I do…" Qiulong Jiao said, his face filled with nostalgia.
"You knew my grandmother?" the Blue Drake asked, lifting his head.
"Of course… How could I forget her? She was one of the children who played with those of my clan," the Flood Dragon replied, much to the Blue Drake's astonishment.
"This… Ancestor!" the Blue Drake exclaimed, kowtowing three times. "To think you would be my ancestor too." Tears filled his eyes.
Lin Mu observed the exchange with intrigue as a familial connection was revealed through sheer coincidence.
Qiulong Jiao looked at the Blue Drake with a mix of emotions on his face.
"Looks like your family was also affected by those wretched Atlanteans." Qiulong Jiao let out a sigh.
"So they didn't just target you." Lin Mu replied.
"Yes, while I was the first to be defeated by them, I don't think they'd have stopped there. In order to established a firm foothold in the ocean, they likely fought and killed many other overlords too.
The Blue Drake clan living there was also one of the Overlords and were close with my Flood Dragon Clan." Qiulong Jiao answered.
"What happened to your parents?" Qiulong Jiao asked.
"My father was unable to breakthrough and died during a tribulation while my mother left the world to find a way to progress her bloodline." Ao De Zuzu answered.
"Hmmm… so the same as my daughter." The flood Dragon muttered.
