Chapter 1335 Meeting Continued - Transfers & New People
Since I've been checking off items from my list left and right, it was a great feeling though the ones that were still pending were still weighing me down or acting as shackles preventing me from sailing away and meeting up with my extended family.
And unless I get a general— no, unless I speak to Eikiji or anyone else via a phone, the only reason I'd leave all this momentarily was if it was absolutely necessary.
So yeah, I decided against bringing up that topic to everyone else present because one, it doesn't really concern them, and two, I can just discuss it with the people I'd like and prefer to bring with me.
However, it wouldn't be the All-Star team because, despite this place's number of dependable people, I'd still need a group or two I could trust this place to. While Oscar, Matthew, Johnny, Marisha, and Sandara were pillars of this community, I was pertaining to people or a group similar to who I'd bring on runs outside or people who could literally hold the fort and everything else. Experience tales at empire
'I'd also be taking a pimped-up yacht or a similar-sized fishing boat but that would at least be a month of planning—which somehow occupied the rest of the freed-up space from my overflowing smorgasbord.'
In any case, as the meeting went on, we had a portion where certain representatives of clusters or sectors like the people from Woodlands, my own compound, this hospital, the church occupied by Lawrence, etc.
would be given the time to not just present their reports but also concerns that either needed immediate attention or something along the lines of a small piece of garbage needing to be picked up.
And surprise, surprise, Lawrence came up with a small piece of paper looking a little miffed:
"Haaa… Alright, I'm representing the people in Pulo—mainly the people in charge of the church, the farm, the crematorium, and the plaza—and it's our formal request to have a couple of electric jeepneys sent our fold for easier transport of goods and have someone take a look at a handful of solar panels in the East Wing of our church looked at because one of our people mentioned it making some sort of weird noise."
Rin quickly answered, "Noted. Is there anything else?"
"Yeah. I'd also like to have myself transferred over to any place where I don't get to be rusty because the place I've been watching over for months had gotten too safe. It's good in a way but I'd prefer to be placed in one of those overlooks we built where people like me could have some peace and quiet.
And of course, I'd still answer promptly to summons though I'd need a vehicle, preferably a bike, so I could easily drive back and report."
I nodded promptly, "At the top of my head, I could assign you to join Morales in UE, Artem in D. Jose Station, or one of Iskoh's officers in EDSA Station. If you want to clean your rifle for carbon build-up because of usage, that'd be your best bet."
Lawrence just gave me a prompt nod, "I'll take spot for EDSA Station if they'd take me. I believe Alexei's back with Artem and there can't be two long-shooters in one spot, in my opinion. Sorry for lazing around the past few months, I did come with you in Batangas but I really am itching to see more action again."
"That's commendable. That just means you're serious about your job. But hey, Pulo had never seen a wandering deadhead for weeks, you must be doing a pretty good job."
He shook his head, "Nah, those were the walls holding up. Can't waste a bullet if the ones below could just fuck up their heads with a crowbar, right? I just need more actual targets so I wouldn't waste the shit I put on my gun after cleaning it. Besides, I already trained a few people and they could do just fine on their own. That's alright, right?"
"That's great. Well, is there anything else for you?"
"Nah, I'm good."
"Alright, next one please?"
At that point, the next one to come up was a representative from Borris' group—the one at Barangay Tawiran where we met one of few who tried to mug us—and it was a report about a small-ish group that wandered by and decided to ask for refuge.
Obviously, we already have rules in place and they were all processed, but as it turns out, almost half of them wanted to join our cause while the other half wanted to continue hitting the road.
It's just that they were asking for supplies they could hopefully bring with them in exchange for the people that'd join us—but obviously, we could easily give those items in exchange for information whether it was reliable or not.
And the only thing we know from them was that they came from the Municipality of Bataan, in Orani, specifically—and while there were a few groups in there still surviving, there was little to no presence of a government body to keep things in order. In short, it was just pure chaos where every sort of the way, and that was one of the reasons they decided to hit the road and take chances elsewhere.
I turned to the person giving their report, "You're Lourdes, right?"
"Y-Yes, sir…"
"Where are they placed, currently?"
"I— It's the protocol to have them in the holding houses at the moment while giving them basic needs, right?"
"Of course, and there are guards stationed to watch them 24/7?"
"Yes, sir. The moment we radioed in, Mr. Ferdinand sent in more people and a doctor to give them a medical checkup but Mrs. Marisha's appointment with them would have to wait for tomorrow."
"That's right, she has a lot on her plate too. So, here's what we do— No, Mrs. Marisha already knows it as well but be as friendly as much as you're cautious with them. Remind Borris and your presiding CO to keep a tight watch and make absolutely sure that they aren't up to no good before letting them roam the place. Is that clear?"
"Y-Yes, sir. Duly noted."
At that point, I'm also curious if they were aware of the US Marines docking at Subic Bay or if they have heard of the people spreading misinformation but unless Marisha has talked to them specifically, we'd never know. While it was true that her insight along with Kaley wasn't 100% perfect, it was our biggest filter to know who's who and what's what.
