“Perhaps not.” Li Qiye said.

“Why is that?” The monarch asked.

“Lord of Calamities’ root isn’t himself since the tribulations come elsewhere. He can endure them but his tribulation comes later. If he can’t finish the current ones, how will he surpass his own in the future? There is a long way to go.” Li Qiye said.

“It sounds like Li Xingchen’s unchanging path won’t work either.” The monarch said.

“The stillness of time allows for numerous opportunities in this world and sure, he did well. However, it is a dual-edged blade with many limitations. He must let it go to surpass it.” Li Qiye said.

“Hah, so his problem is the same as mine. Our roots are what make us today.” The monarch said.

“Yes, and you must abandon it to reach a greater height.” Li Qiye said.

“Is that why you relinquish your everlasting life and indestructibility too?” The monarch asked.

“Who told you this?” Li Qiye smiled.

“I guessed.” The monarch shrugged: “Zhan Sansheng thought about burning the tree and used numerous methods. However, he found that the primordial tree couldn’t be burned, the same for your root.”

“The nine worlds.” Li Qiye smiled.

“Yes, he attempted to reverse time and destroy your world and in turn, destroy you.” The monarch said.

“It’s an easy idea for the villainous heaven to do.” Li Qiye smiled.

“It wasn’t doable, so I thought about something else. You could have transferred it to this world, so you yourself aren’t indestructible anymore.” The monarch stroked his chin.

Li Qiye gazed into the horizon for a bit before smiling: “Well, a world or a single person, either one can’t truly become everlasting or indestructible. It will only be a burden in the end. The true immortal realm is an exception.”

“I didn’t know it could be transferred.” The monarch murmured.

Li Qiye didn’t answer this question and asked: “How did he try to burn the tree?”

“Several different ways.” The monarch laughed: “Don’t blame me, Young Noble, hehe, you know I am no virtuous cultivator. They tried to tempt me so I came to take a look. All the attempts were failures so he was always looking for something.”

“What?” Li Qiye asked.

“I’m not sure, a type of flame left behind by his master. I don’t know if it can burn your tree down. He was adamant about his master leaving one behind.” The monarch waved his hand.

“I see, he believed he understood his master.” Li Qiye seemed amused.

“Who knows? Some masters are confident about knowing their disciples though. Xian Chengtian was a wake-up call.” The monarch said.

“So you had your fair share of shady business, standing shoulder to shoulder with many groups.” Li Qiye remarked.

“No way.” The monarch became startled and smiled wryly: “I was just curious, that’s all, and only went to take a look. You know me, Young Noble, I’m not stubborn like the bull and have no feud against anyone. I visited both heavens for fun.”

“Is that so?” Li Qiye smiled.

The monarch’s expression changed and he immediately responded: “Young Noble, I already told you, the heaven and earth are my witnesses. I’m just a cute and innocent baby, that’s all. Primal Yin Ghost Immortal came to me before and wanted me to do a few things. The payment was handsome but I wasn’t the type to choose money over principle.”

“What things?” Li Qiye asked.

“Help him escape from Fiendish Ground’s control.” The monarch said: “The idea was fine, just the execution was too unsavory for me. I know he went to Supreme Heaven and asked Xian Chengtian for help later, that’s all I know since I wasn’t interested.”

“He should have known the consequences when he gave in to desires.” Li Qiye said.

“He thought he could control it.” The monarch laughed.

“Desire is an uncontrollable flame, the reason for Fiendish Ground and Evil Transformation’s existence.” Li Qiye said.

“Geniuses are always arrogant.” The monarch laughed.

“You’re arrogant despite not being a genius, always spewing crap about Lankavatara Temple.” Li Qiye said.

“Young Noble, I don’t have any ill wills toward them. It’s just that those bald donkeys considered my root to be evil and tried to suppress me.” The monarch said.

“They’re not completely wrong.” Li Qiye said with a smile.

“Haha, it wasn’t any of their business if I became a devil.” The monarch said: “If I were truly evil, I would have visited their temple long ago.” 

“It’s all in the past. At the very least, you are doing a great job with your dao heart.” Li Qiye patted his shoulder.

“Haha, I know better because if I do anything, Desolate Ancestor will kill me before you. This applies to the bull too.” The monarch said.

“In a way, they’re protecting you.” Li Qiye said.

“True.” The monarch stroked his chin.

Li Qiye noticed something and focused his gaze on a distant peak. Solar flames pulsed within a cave.

The source was a middle-aged man with golden hair. He looked like the lord of gods; his solar flame could burn everything.

He utilized it to trap a tiny creature resembling a whale. Its body glowed faintly with a dark light, seemingly having merged with its gray skin. Veins could be seen due to the light.

Despite looking cute, its glow could stop the waves of solar flames. Alas, it was too young to last long against the powerful cultivators.

The man could see the inevitable outcome and roared, intensifying his flames.
