Chapter 271: Spirit Air Plane - Su Ming and Elder Mei Punishment.
Standing in the west wing of the military base, a group of men and women dressed in special uniforms of red and black.
A woman in her late twenties stood at the forefront of the group, with a white lab coat over her uniform.
Beside the group were Su Yen and Su Ming. Su Ming stood a couple of steps behind him without uttering a word.
Their previous playful banter was long gone and was replaced by expressionless faces.
As for the thought of him getting married, he had placed it at the back of his mind.
In the presence of Su Yen, no one dared show an exaggerated expression.
Su Yen, with his calm and approachable smile, looked at the object for a couple of seconds without uttering a word.
All the engineers in charge of creating the Spirit Air Plane were trembling and sweating bullets.
The young woman standing in front of the engineers was visibly shaking, with the sound of the sweat dripping from her forehead sounding like the toll of a bell.
As the team leader, her reaction would be laughable if she were in the presence of any other person, but not in the presence of the mighty Emperor of the Barren Land.
Su Yen, like always, didn't care about their reaction and was scrutinizing the Spirit Air Plane prototype.
"Why did you go for the Spirit Air Plane instead of the Spirit Fighter Jet?" Su Yen broke the deafening silence without looking back.
Listening to the question, all the engineers sucked in a cold breath and looked at their leader.
Lihua's chest rose and fell as she sucked in a cold breath. She wiped off the bead of sweat from her forehead with the back of her palm and arranged her thoughts.
She looked at Su Ming from the corner of her eyes and saw him telling her to relax.
Taking a deep breath for the umpteenth time, Lihua finally managed to gather her courage and speak.
"Your Majesty… We decided to go for the Spirit Air Plane because it would be easier to test run and correct all the errors that might arise before going to the Spirit Jets."
"You're a student from Elder Mei, right?" Su Yen asked calmly, still not looking at her.
"Y-Yes…" She responded with a shaky voice.
She couldn't understand the correlation between her being the student of Elder Mei and the Spirit Air Plane.
However, Su Ming knew better. Things were not going according to plan and what Su Yen saw was not very satisfying.
Su Ming opened his mouth to speak, only to see Su Yen place both hands behind his back and walk toward the Spirit Air Plane prototype.
With his spirit sense, he already knew the ins and outs of the prototype, but still, he wanted to see everything with his eyes.
Just like a regular plane, the Spirit Air plane was designed in such a way, but instead of having powerful turbines at its wings, it was replaced with powerful formations and runes.
After having a round check, he returned to his spot and asked.
"Who are the test pilots?"
"Your Majesty!"
Instantly, two men stepped forward and gave a military salute.
"Get on with it. Let me see," he commanded.
The two young men didn't dare waste time and moved with large strides, entering the Spirit Air Plane prototype.
Under the gaze of everyone, the Spirit Air Plane prototype rose slowly into the air in less than five seconds.
In another five seconds, the Spirit Air Plane changed course mid-air before moving at a speed that almost broke the sound barrier, disappearing into the horizon.
After a minute, the Spirit Air Plane returned and slowly landed in its previous position.
Realizing the trial was successful, Lihua and the engineers breathed a sigh of relief.
They looked at Su Yen, waiting for his comment. However, he never said anything.
The atmosphere became solemn, still, and heavy. His quietness made it obvious the trial was far from successful.
After waiting for a good grueling ten minutes of absolute silence, they heard hurried footsteps from the distance, and when they turned their heads.
It was Elder Mei rushing toward them with hurried footsteps.
Seeing her teacher, Lihua knew she had failed miserably. This was her first project, but she failed.
This was not just any failure, but a failure that came directly from His Majesty.
"Your Majesty…." Elder Mei bowed deeply.
"Do you know what this is?" Su Yen asked, turning to look at her. His expression was unreadable, sending shivers down Su Ming and Elder Mei's spines.
'This is not good!' They both exclaimed in their minds.
Even though she was panicking deep inside, she still obeyed the order and looked at the artifact.
She only needed to take a glance before she knew what it was. Instantly, she knew where the errors came from.
Su Yen strictly told them to make Spirit Jets, but what did her student do.
She made a prototype of a commercial Spirit Air Plane.
Thud!
She fell on her knees and began to bang her head on the cold, hard ground.
"Your Majesty… I have failed you. Please, I deserve to die," she shouted with a voice filled with sincerity.
Su Yen only gave her a mere glance before looking at Su Ming.
Feeling his deadly cold gaze, Su Ming's legs turned to jelly, and he almost fell on his butt.
"Do you know your mistake?"
"Yes." He nodded with regret etched on his face.
"Had it not been for both of you having the Su blood running in your veins, you wouldn't know how you died."
"But your offense won't go unpunished."
"For the next one hundred years, your descendants won't hold any leadership positions."
Hearing their punishment, Su Ming trembled, and a heavy pang hit his heart.
Elder Mei, who was banging her head on the cold, hard ground, had tears drop from the corner of her eyes.
"Thank you, Your Majesty, for your mercy," she and Su Ming responded.
"Don't make me regret giving you a second chance. I want to see a working prototype in two days' time."
With that, Su Yen disappeared, leaving no trace of his presence.
