Chapter 739

Liam walked the walk. He gave the order that no one was allowed to bail Kaylee out.

Skyler played every contact she had, trying to get help from anywhere she could, but no one could spring Kaylee.

Even the cops wouldn’t let the family visit.

Skyler didn’t sleep a wink all night. First thing in the morning, she went to find Sienna.

Sienna knew what was up right off the bat. Liam figured Skyler would come begging, so he went to Sienna’s place the night before.

He laid it all out for Sienna, everything Kaylee had been up to over the years.

Sienna didn’t say a word for a long time after hearing it all.

When she found out what Liam was planning to do, Sienna said, “Let her taste some hardship. It’s for the best. I regret leaving Kaylee in her care.”

Worried that Skyler would come knocking, Sienna had split town the night before.

So Skyler couldn’t find Sienna, and she couldn’t get through to her, Mr. Robinson, or anyone else on the phone.

Skyler finally realized that the old lady really wasn’t going to help Kaylee out this time.

She left Sienna’s place, looking white as a sheet.

On her way, Janis called. “Skyler, what’s the word? Did Kaylee make bail?”

Skyler answered in a low voice, “Not yet, Liam won’t let me bail her out.”

Janis said, “Liam’s probably still steamed.”

Out of the blue, Skyler asked, “Could you help me bail her out?”

Janis sighed. “Skyler, it’s not that I don’t want to help, but how am I supposed to do that?”

Skyler was at her wit’s end. With Liam and Sienna refusing to lend a hand, she was out of options.

“But there’s someone you could try.”

Skyler blinked. “Who?”

“Celeste, Ms. Campbell.” Janis said gently. “I heard it all started because of her. Liam’s not letting anyone bail Kaylee out; it might have something to do with Ms. Campbell. If she can talk to Liam, there might be a chance.”

Skyler’s face turned sour at the thought.

Get help from Celeste? She found that idea hard to swallow.

Janis said, “Getting Kaylee out is the most important thing right now. Everything else can wait.”

Skyler frowned. “I’ll think about it.”

After hanging up, Clair asked, “Mom, can’t we really help?”

Janis replied calmly, “If their own family won’t step in, why should we? Kaylee brought this on herself. Remember when she almost got you killed? Besides, if we help now, with Liam refusing bail, do you really think he’ll still have a soft spot for you?”

Clair hung her head. “Mom, I don’t think Liam feels that way about me.”

Janis took her hand and straightened her skirt. “Clair, if you want something, you have to go after it yourself. Whether it’s a person or a thing, you can’t just sit around waiting for it to come to you.”

Clair nodded.

After a day of reading scripts and binge–watching TV shows, Celeste’s doorbell rang in the evening.

Trisha was revising a script with her headphones on, so Celeste got up to answer the door.

To her surprise, it was a delivery guy.

Two staff members, carrying bags and bags of food, greeted her with rehearsed smiles.

“Hello, your order has arrived. Happy to serve you.”

Celeste blinked. “I didn’t order anything.”

The staff checked the address. “Grandview Heights, building 7, unit 901, Miss Trisha, isn’t it you?” “Trisha?”

Celeste said, “Hold on a sec.”

She went back and took Trisha’s headphones off. “Did you order takeout?”

Trisha looked puzzled. “No?”

“Well, they said it was you. The address and phone number are yours.”

Trisha lit up. “Really? Great! Let them in!”

Trisha ran to the door and welcomed them in. The staff were efficient, setting everything up in about ten minutes.

Trisha took a bite before asking, “Has the food been paid for?”

“It’s all been taken care of.” The staff handed over the invoice. “Please take a look.”

Trisha’s eyes popped when she saw the total.

Holy cow, did they order the most expensive dishes?

Celeste whispered, “Who ordered this for you?”

Trisha coughed and said, “Maybe a secret admirer?”

She had no idea who it could be. It wasn’t her birthday yet; could it be her mom?

Trisha politely saw the two staff out, then snapped a photo of the feast and sent it to her mom. “Thanks for the generous spread, Mom.” Her mom shot back, “I’m on a diet; stop sending me annoying pictures.”

Trisha was puzzled.

“Mom, didn’t you order this?”

Her mom replied, “I didn’t order anything for you.”

Trisha was even more confused.

Then who did?

Just as she was wondering, someone cleared their throat at the door.

Celeste turned around to find Liam and Nicolas standing there. Nicolas lifted a bottle of wine and said, “Care to join us for dinner?”
