Chapter 740

“Is this your doing?” Trisha asked.

Nicolas coughed, “Well, I’ve treated you to quite a few meals; this is kind of your payback.”

Trisha let out a sarcastic laugh.

If Liam wasn’t there, she would have punched him already.

Nicolas walked over with a glass of wine and whispered, “Isn’t this wine proof enough of my sincerity?” Trisha glanced at the wine in his hand; it did look like the same packaging as the one she saw on set. “You’re not trying to trick me with fake wine, are you?” Trisha asked skeptically.

“If this wine is fake; I’ll swallow the whole bottle.” Nicolas vowed.

Trisha’s demeanor softened slightly as she accepted the wine. “For the sake of the wine.”

Then she took the wine into the kitchen, with Nicolas following and a small smile appearing on his face.

Celeste and Liam exchanged amused glances.

“Let’s take a walk downstairs,” Liam suggested.

Celeste replied, “I haven’t eaten yet.”

Liam gave a soft chuckle, “I’ll treat you to something even tastier.”

Wanting to probe Liam about Kaylee’s situation, Celeste agreed.

She grabbed her small purse filled with change as she headed out.

The weather was especially hot today; even after the sun had set, the ground was still sizzling, and people’s legs were drenched with sweat.

Despite wearing shorts and a lightweight T–shirt, Celeste still felt extremely hot and even a little suffocated.

The forecast predicted a shower at noon, but it never happened.

Sweat dripped non–stop from Celeste’s nose from the moment she stepped out. She glanced at Liam.

He seemed to be living in a different season, dressed in a loose white shirt with sleeves neatly rolled up to his elbows, khaki silk trousers, and shiny leather shoes.

He was poised and elegant; if not for the close distance that allowed her to see the sweat on his face, she would have thought he wasn’t feeling the heat.

The market was bustling with a dazzling array of goods.

Suddenly, Liam’s arm was bumped and Celeste asked softly, “Aren’t you hot?”

“Hot.” Liam admitted.

“Why are you wearing so much then?” Celeste questioned.

She mumbled something and then spotted a clothing stall. She pulled Liam along and suggested, “Let’s pick something cooler for you.”

As she said this, she dragged him over to a clothing stall.

However, Liam was surprised to see clothes being sold at the market.

Even though the stall had both men’s and women’s clothing, most of the customers were female. There were a few men around, mostly accompanying their partners, standing at the side, not getting close.

Liam was initially holding Celeste’s hand, but when the stall owner pulled out a large bag of clothes, Celeste instantly let go of his hand and joined the women in the rush for clothes.

Liam finally understood why those men were standing by the side and not accompanying their partners.

Their presence would slow down the shopping frenzy.

So, he became one of the bystanders.

A man next to him offered a cigarette.

“Want about one?”

“I don’t smoke, but thanks,” Liam declined.

The man chuckled and put the cigarette back, “Actually, I don’t smoke much either, just trying to find a conversation starter.”

Liam was puzzled, as he wasn’t used to initiating conversations, it was usually the other way around.

“I’ve been watching you for a while, holding hands with your wife in this heat, are you guys newlyweds?” the man asked.

Liam thought to himself, actually, they just got divorced.

But he just nodded.

The man continued, “My wife was really skinny before she had our baby; she gained weight after, but I think she’s beautiful either way. You guys don’t have kids?” “We’re not planning to.” Liam replied.

The man was taken aback, then laughed, “That’s probably for the best; childbirth is really painful. My wife ate too much while pregnant, had a huge baby, and spent a day and night in the delivery room, which scared me to death.”

This made Liam even more sure about not wanting kids.

“Liam!”

Celeste turned to call him.

Liam walked over.

She held a black mesh T–shirt against him, her eyes full of excitement, “This would definitely be cooler.”

Liam was exasperated; wasn’t this something a stripper would wear?

“And a pair of shorts.”

She spread the shorts in her hands and Liam fell silent.

The shorts matched the mesh T–shirt; they were tight boxer shorts that were full of holes, and what was more disturbing was that the front was open! Celeste only noticed that after spreading them.

Who in the world designed this?

A few people started to look over, so Celeste quickly balled up the shorts.

Seeing her flustered, Liam chuckled, quietly asking, “You like this?”

“Who would like this?” Celeste glared at him.

She only picked it up to tease Liam, not realizing it was a set of erotic underwear.

Liam drawled, “If you like it, I can wear it for you.”

Imagining Liam in this outfit, Celeste felt even hotter and her face flushed as she glared at him, “You’re shameless!”

Celeste picked a set of very cool shorts and a short–sleeved shirt, then asked the stall owner for the price.

Looking at their attire, he responded, “One hundred dollars for both.”

Celeste frowned, “Isn’t that a bit expensive?”

“You can haggle.” he advised.

“I dare not, I’m scared you’ll get angry if I suggest a price.” Celeste replied.

“Why would I? Give it a try.” The owner encouraged.

Tentatively, Celeste offered, “Then… how about ten dollars?”

“Deal.” The owner agreed.
