Chapter 122: Chapter 92 Base of Horror_2
Quickly, time reached ten o’clock at night. Yan Fei once again approached the airbase vicinity. There was no moonlight tonight and while high-powered lights illuminated the base, the other areas were still pitch-dark. Despite it being past ten o’clock, various airplanes were frequently taking off and landing on the runway. This demonstrated the US Air Force’s rigorous training, which is one of the reasons they have dominated globally for decades.
What Yan Fei didn’t know was that these planes frequently taking off and landing so late were not just training; they were searching for Yan Fei’s Drone Avatar. After all, the US-Japan Joint Forces had suffered heavy losses the previous night, and in the end, they failed to find so much as a single hair from the drone. Their frequent sorties were meant to find the drone, destroy it or capture it. Otherwise, as long as the drone remained hidden at an unknown location, occasionally launching surprise attacks, they would be exhausted by the constant response, unable to carry out other tasks.
Yan Fei concealed himself in darkness, changed into a set of black tight-fitting clothes, and even covered his face with a black cloth, with only his eyes showing behind protective goggles. To avoid being captured by surveillance cameras, he even adjusted the intervals between his bones to make himself much shorter, appearing to be only about 165 centimeters tall.
After completing the initial disguise work and double-checking that there were no flaws, Yan Fei stealthily approached the airbase. Surrounding the base was a circle of wire mesh with a height of four meters. He carefully observed his surroundings; during the daytime recon, he had identified this spot as a very narrow visual blind spot, one not covered by surveillance cameras. He took out a pair of pliers from the Universal Space, cut several sections of the wire, created a large hole, and then crawled through it.
The Atsugi Naval Air Base was vast, and even though Yan Fei had infiltrated the airbase, the distant runway was still far away, not to mention the F-15 Fighter Jets there. He carefully watched for nearby surveillance cameras, draping a grass-green blanket over himself, and crawled towards the distant runway in coordination with the flickering lights.
This was the largest US airbase in Japan, with extremely stringent security. There were surveillance cameras everywhere, soldiers patrolling in vehicles from time to time, and various searchlights continuously sweeping around. If it weren’t for Yan Fei’s agility and the camouflage of his green blanket, along with his patience and a bit of luck, he would have been discovered by the base’s soldiers long ago.
Under the cover of night, Yan Fei drew closer to the distant runway. But for safety, he moved very slowly. He lay on the ground, occasionally crawling forward, then would stop to avoid surveillance camera monitoring or the sweep of searchlights, or to evade patrolling vehicles and personnel. The entire process was extremely difficult, no easier than fighting a major battle.
After crawling and pausing, an hour later, Yan Fei finally managed to sneak up next to the runway. He looked at the F-15’s parked in the distance, filled with joy. But security was even more stringent here, with the constant possibility of being discovered. He hesitated for a moment, then began to open the Virtual Operating Screen and aimed at an F-15 on the runway, pressing the scan button. But a red text warning immediately appeared on the screen.
“Target too far, scanning not possible, minimum scanning distance 10 meters!”
Yan Fei was at least 500 meters away from the F-15 on the distant runway—no wonder he couldn’t scan it, as the minimum scanning distance was only 10 meters. With no other choice, Yan Fei had to risk continuing to crawl forward. After another 30 minutes, he finally managed to get close to an advanced model of the F-15 Fighter Jet.
As Yan Fei approached the F-15, his initial thought was to use the Universal Space to transport the F-15 to a safe location and scan it leisurely. However, the F-15 Fighter Jet was huge, measuring 19.45 meters in length, with a wingspan of 13.05 meters and a height of 5.65 meters. The Level 3 Drone General Space had a volume of only 100 meters and had to be cuboidal, making it impossible to accommodate the massive F-15 in any form.
Having no other choice, Yan Fei decided to scan right there. He observed his surroundings, clicked the F-15 icon on the Virtual Operation Screen, which revealed a scanning option. He initiated the scan and saw a red beam shoot out from his eyes, striking the F-15 Fighter, slowly scanning from nose to tail.
Yan Fei was taken aback, having not expected that the drone would scan in such a manner. The red beam was too conspicuous and could easily be noticed by soldiers at the airport. Moreover, the drone’s scanning was very slow, and it would probably take at least five minutes to complete. During such a long time, the possibility of being exposed greatly increased. But there was no going back, as scanning couldn’t be stopped once started. He could only pray not to be discovered by the airbase security personnel.
Watching the red beam slowly sweeping over the F-15’s body, Yan Fei was inwardly anxious, wishing the red beam would move faster. Though anxious, he dared not move his head for fear that the scan would fail and have to start over. Finally, as Yan Fei watched eagerly, just as the red beam reached the tail end of the plane, a deafening alarm suddenly rang out in the base, followed by the sound of whistles. Then, a multitude of military vehicles started their engines, driving towards the runway.
