Chapter 123 - 93: Precious Metals

Chapter 123: Chapter 93: Precious Metals

Yan Fei was startled, he had still been discovered by the American soldiers inside the base, but now, at the critical moment, he did not dare to make any movement, continuing to let the red light scan the F-15. Amidst Yan Fei’s growing anxiety, the red light finally finished scanning the F-15, and then the red light disappeared. On the virtual control screen, a complete holographic image of the F-15 Fighter appeared, with various specific data marked on it.

Relieved that the scanning was finally finished, Yan Fei was about to turn and flee, simultaneously activating his Drone Avatar to come to his aid. That’s when he realized that the American soldiers shouting and calling were not surrounding him, but someone else. He immediately lay on the ground to observe and saw a young Japanese man running fast on the airport runway with a bunch of military vehicles and soldiers chasing after him. It turned out that the American soldiers were not after Yan Fei, but this young Japanese man.

Yan Fei’s eyes were sharp, and he immediately recognized who the young Japanese was. He had seen him during the day; he was one of the military enthusiasts waiting outside the Atsugi Naval Air Base to visit. The young man had complained about the closure of the airbase during the day, but faced with the strong US Forces, he could only leave helplessly. Unexpectedly, he broke into the airbase at night, displaying the craziness of the Japanese. However, he lacked Yan Fei’s skills; although he had also done his homework and used a lot of high-tech equipment, he was discovered not far into the base and then pursued by the American soldiers.

The young Japanese man desperately ran, but he was no match for the speed of the American soldiers’ vehicles, and he was quickly caught up. The American soldiers pinned the young man to the ground and brutally beat him with their rifle butts, quickly leaving him with broken bones and unconscious. Then, dragging him by the legs, they left a shocking trail of blood on the ground.

Watching the tragic fate of the young Japanese man, Yan Fei couldn’t help but wipe the nonexistent cold sweat from his forehead. He had just thought he had been discovered and had even prepared for war, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Thanks to the intruder’s disturbance, which drew everyone’s attention, scanning the F-15 on the runway went unnoticed; in a sense, he had to thank the Japanese man. Despite the perfect plans he drafted, the execution always seemed fraught with unexpected issues that frustrated him and made him doubt his planning skills. Yet, this operation, though dangerous, went without any errors and even gave him a scapegoat, proving to be the luckiest he had in quite some time.

Having completed his mission, Yan Fei was no longer in a hurry. After the soldiers who captured the unfortunate man had left, he waited some more until the base returned to a state of calm, then began to retreat following the same route he came in. With some spare time, he began observing the layout of the airbase. It was then he broke out in a cold sweat; the base was heavily guarded, equipped with various light and heavy weapons. Had it not been for the intruder’s sudden act, he would likely have been discovered. Once discovered, he would have been subjected to relentless attacks by the varying ordnance, and he might have been reduced to ashes before his Drone Avatar could arrive.

Therefore, Yan Fei was even more cautious when leaving. However, in the end, danger still found him. Unintentionally cornered by two patrolling army groups, he had no choice but to hide in a nearby room. To his surprise, the room was a small military arsenal, but fortunately, empty.

Yan Fei avoided disaster by hiding in this room. Once the patrol teams had moved on, he planned to leave the room. However, upon seeing the vast array of advanced weaponry stored inside, he decided to gather some of the select weapons that caught his eye into his Universal Space, filling it to the brim. Although he did not know what use these weapons would serve, it was better to have them than not, as they could prove helpful at some point.

Yan Fei was extremely cautious upon leaving the room. In the end, his agile skills and patience enabled him to leave Atsugi Naval Air Base.

By this time, it was already past two in the morning. From infiltrating the airbase to leaving it, Yan Fei had spent a full four hours. Even though the process had been mentally taxing and terrifying for him, the outcome was ultimately perfect; he had successfully scanned the F-15 Fighter, completing the second step of his Drone Upgrade.

Once clear of the Atsugi Naval Air Base, Yan Fei hastened his departure from the area, returning to the city area. He went back to the park where he had been that afternoon and began to work on the Drone Upgrade issue. It was late at night, and the park was deserted, perfect for Yan Fei’s research.

Yan Fei chose the F-15 Fighter template, and after conducting an on-site scan of the F-15 Fighter, the images of the three other fighters disappeared from the template, leaving only the F-15 image. Upon completing this step, new text appeared beneath the bright red question mark:

The raw materials needed for this upgrade include: lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium—100 kilograms of each material are required.

Gold: Ten tons.

Special items: Acquired.

Yan Fei saw this explanation and was immediately stunned. Drone upgrades weren’t so troublesome before! Why are there so many steps needed now? Moreover, the raw materials needed for upgrades used to be simple—one could just find a garbage landfill, and it would be done. He didn’t expect that now it would require so many types of raw materials. All these raw materials can only be found in rare earths and are extremely precious, difficult to buy even with money. Where could Yan Fei possibly find them? Plus, the upgrade materials even include gold, with a requirement of 10 tons. Why does it feel like a Level 4 Drone is entirely made of gold piles?

However, the only relief for Yan Fei was that he had already obtained the special item required for the drone upgrade. It was the rusty gear he had snatched in Africa, now hidden in his Universal Space. After acquiring the rusty gear, he had done some research on it, but he didn’t even know what material the gear was made of, let alone uncover its secrets. So, he gave up on doing research and treated the gear as a special item for the drone upgrade.

After his complaints, Yan Fei couldn’t help but think of ways to find these rare and precious metals. He activated his drone, turned on the Quantum Radar, and began searching for free WIFI in the vicinity of Tokyo Bay. He quickly found a free WIFI signal on a luxury cruise ship moored at Tokyo Bay. The Auxiliary Brain connected to the international Internet, and under Yan Fei’s control, began searching for locations capable of storing such amounts of rare earth metals and gold, then filtering them according to his requirements.

Indeed, Yan Fei had no intention of relying on his own strength to collect these precious metals. Although he was capable of collecting them through legitimate means, he planned to steal them. If it had been domestic, he wouldn’t have dared to be so brazen, as those were his compatriots and he would feel bashful about robbing them of so much. But this was Japan, and he never had a good impression of the country. Since the drone upgrade required these materials, he felt no guilt about robbing them in Japan.

The Auxiliary Brain quickly collated and analyzed the collected data, marking places in the world that could have so much metal available. It was only then that Yan Fei realized there were quite a few places in the world where so much precious metal could be found at the same time. He used to think it would be challenging to gather these items—this was a reflection of his narrow horizons, or one could say poverty limited his imagination. The information about these precious metals wasn’t top-secret intelligence. Some institutions and banks, to boost investor confidence, would actively disclose the quantities of precious metals they held. So the Auxiliary Brain found these locations on the Internet and marked them on the map.

Looking at the densely spotted world map, Yan Fei first eliminated the areas outside of Japan, leaving 58 spots on the map of Japan. He then selected Honshu Island, reducing the number of spots to 37. Finally, he chose the vicinity of Tokyo, which left only 18 spots.

Yan Fei looked at these spots, which had labels indicating their geographic names. Suddenly, he found the name Oogawa Bank among these locations. He clicked on the address, and the Auxiliary Brain automatically switched maps, revealing that the Oogawa Bank was located in a bustling area of Tokyo Downtown.

The Oogawa Family also held controlling stakes in a large number of manufacturing enterprises in Japan and used a lot of rare earth metals in their manufacturing processes. Hence, they chose to import substantial amounts of rare earth resources from China, refine the precious metals from the rare earths, and store the reserved rare earth metals in the vaults of the Oogawa Bank. The vault Yan Fei had located was the largest vault Oogawa Bank had in Japan. And the Oogawa Bank was the most critical asset of the Oogawa Family.

In the Oogawa Bank’s promotions, they claimed to store a large quantity of rare metals in this vault, and the quantity was massive, meeting Yan Fei’s upgrade needs. These details were collected by the Auxiliary Brain from the Internet; Yan Fei wasn’t concerned about the absence of these metals in the vault of Oogawa Bank. After all, Japanese enterprises still held some reputation in terms of business credibility. Despite a significant drop in recent years, as a top-tier family in Japan, the Oogawa Family certainly had stored plentiful precious metals in this vault, which should satisfy the need for the drone upgrade.

Yan Fei immediately set his sights on the Oogawa Bank. He chose the Oogawa Bank because his arch-enemy in Japan was the Oogawa Family. They had tried to put him to death multiple times, and he had long regarded the Oogawa Family as his mortal enemy. Now, intending to rob precious metals, he chose the Oogawa Bank as his first target, considering it an early move to weaken the Oogawa Family’s strength.

Having made his next plan, Yan Fei felt his exhaustion. So, without looking for a place to rest, he slept on a park bench overnight and returned to Tokyo Downtown the next day. On the commuter train, Yan Fei also saw a news report that a huge piece of news had broken out at the Atsugi Naval Air Base the previous night. A Japanese military enthusiast had trespassed onto the US Military Base at night, stolen a large amount of weaponry, and been captured by the American soldiers on the spot. The US Forces were interrogating the suspect, attempting to recover the stolen weapons. Over this matter, the base officials of the US Forces were protesting to the Japanese Government, and the Japanese officials were bowing and apologizing on television…
