Chapter 124 - 94: The Big Bank Heist
Chapter 124: Chapter 94: The Big Bank Heist
Yan Fei, following the map, arrived in Ginza, Tokyo, where Oogawa Bank was located right in the center of Ginza. Ginza is the most bustling commercial district in Tokyo. Legend has it that this area used to be the sea, which was later filled in and reclaimed by Tokugawa Ieyasu, turning it into a place for minting silver coins known as “Ginza Ward Office.” Over time, it came to be called Ginza and earned the nickname “the heart of Tokyo.”
The Ginza Avenue spans one and a half kilometers, starting from Kyobashi in the north to Shinbashi in the south. Department stores and various shops line both sides of the avenue, specializing in high-end merchandise. Behind Ginza Avenue, there are many restaurants, snack shops, bars, and nightclubs.
This was Yan Fei’s first visit to Ginza, known as the most flourishing street in the island nation, but domestic cities, especially Shanghai, were changing fast every day. The downtown area of Shanghai boasted even more prosperity than Ginza, so he wasn’t shocked by the bustle here. Pretending to browse through the streets, he walked around Oogawa Bank with a casual yet deliberate attention, keeping an eye on the surrounding area of the bank.
Oogawa Bank was situated in a 36-story building called Oogawa Building, at the heart of Ginza, occupying from the third basement floor to the fifth above-ground floor, while above the sixth floor were the office spaces of enterprises held by the Oogawa Family. According to the markings on the building, Oogawa Bank’s gold vault was on the third basement floor. Therefore, his target for this operation was right there. He began his reconnaissance, noting down some critical targets and data, then left the area to start formulating his combat plan.
Yan Fei used his Auxiliary Brain to connect to the internet and began searching for the structural blueprints of the building. To his surprise, he actually found the blueprints online and started familiarizing himself with the building’s layout. He then began to collect maps of Tokyo’s underground pipelines and subway routes, paying special attention to those near this building, memorizing the pipelines and routes.
In the afternoon, Yan Fei went up a mountain near Tokyo, found an abandoned mine pit, and reorganized the items in his Universal Space. He took out some of the less important items and temporarily stored them in the mine pit. He planned to steal precious metals tonight, so he needed the Universal Space. However, he had just filled the Universal Space with a lot of US military arsenal, making it completely full. Thus, for tonight’s operation, he had to clear enough space to carry out his plans.
At nine in the evening, fully prepared, Yan Fei returned to the Oogawa Building in the center of Ginza. He concealed himself in darkness and observed Oogawa Bank from afar. Though the bank had already closed for the day, the surrounding security seemed quite strict, with guards patrolling intermittently while shining their flashlights.
Seeing the guards, Yan Fei couldn’t help but let out a cold chuckle. He had breached US Military Bases with far tighter security than this; compared to those, the guards here seemed as simple as children playing house in a kindergarten.
Yan Fei reaffirmed his plan, changed into a set of US military bulletproof gear, donned a Kevlar helmet, then emerged from the darkness and walked toward the entrance of Oogawa Bank. As he approached the bank’s entrance, two guards came out. With one hand on their police batons and the other stopping Yan Fei, they warned him not to come any closer. In a sudden move, Yan Fei charged forward, struck the guards’ heads together with force, and knocked them unconscious in one move. These were ordinary people, no match for Yan Fei, who collapsed on the ground with a thud.
Yan Fei did not intend to infiltrate the bank silently this time, as the place was crawling with surveillance cameras, making it impossible to sneak in unnoticed. Instead, he planned a frontal assault, to breach the entrance, quickly reach the gold vault, accomplish his goal, and then retreat before the enemy had time to react.
After dealing with the two guards, Yan Fei rapidly advanced into the bank, pulling out a heavy machine gun capable of firing large caliber bullets that he had stolen from the US arsenal, and started shooting at the bank’s entrance glass. The entrance glass of Oogawa Bank was reinforced, even tougher than a concrete floor. But under the barrage of the heavy machine gun, it began to crack and was eventually shattered by the large caliber bullets. Holding the machine gun, Yan Fei quickly stormed into the bank.
By that time, the bank’s security monitoring room noticed something was amiss. Without hesitation, they triggered the alarm and called the police. A loud alarm sounded inside the bank, but Yan Fei turned a deaf ear and, following the route he had surveilled during the day and the building’s structural map, made a rapid advance toward the underground gold vault.
Along the way, security personnel appeared continuously, each armed to some degree. However, due to regulations, they all carried pistols with small caliber bullets, hardly a threat to Yan Fei, making them ineffectual.
After so many battles, Yan Fei’s strength had evolved tremendously. His movements were as fast as lightning, allowing him to take down the security personnel with machine gun fire before they even had a chance to shoot back.
Yan Fei pushed forward like a force of nature; although Oogawa Bank claimed to be tightly guarded, it was only equipped to ward off ordinary criminals. Facing a ferocious assailant like Yan Fei, the pitiful inside defenses were incapable of stopping his advance.
The guards whom Yan Fei effortlessly eliminated set an example for the others: those who resisted were immediately killed. Thus, the remaining guards, intimidated, dared not approach Yan Fei, let alone obstruct his path. They opted instead for a defensive strategy, hoping that the police, upon receiving the alarm, would promptly dispatch combat personnel to either kill or capture the invader Yan Fei.
Yan Fei followed the route he had scoped out in advance and quickly reached the underground vault three levels below. To enter the vault from the outside, there was a metal door. The bank had just discovered Yan Fei’s invasion and shut this metal door from the inside, blocking Yan Fei’s progress.
Yan Fei stood in front of the metal door, withdrew the heavy machine gun, and began to search in the Universal Space. He soon found an RPG rocket launcher and ammunition from the US Forces’ military arsenal. After loading the RPG rocket, he aimed at the metal door and fired the rocket, swiftly taking cover around the corner of the corridor as he did so. Then he heard a violent explosion behind him, followed by a blast of air that sent Yan Fei rolling several times on the ground.
Yan Fei climbed to his feet and looked back, seeing that the metal door that had obstructed his path now had a huge hole blown through it. Judging by the thickness of the steel, he would not have been able to break through the metal door without using the RPG rocket. He entered through the metal door, which led to the entrance of the vault. However, the vault door was tightly shut, and with no one around, he had no way to open it.
But Yan Fei had anticipated this issue. He once again took out a large amount of C4 explosives from the Universal Space, which he had stolen from a US Airbase the night before. He stacked the explosives in front of the vault door and connected them in sequence. After retreating to a safe distance, hiding back around the corner of the corridor, he pressed the detonator. A deafening explosion ensued, shaking the entire building momentarily, and the vault below collapsed, indicating the immense power of the blast.
Yan Fei took cover from a distance, but the blast wave from the C4 explosion still left him in a very disheveled state. Fortunately, he had come prepared, and his bulletproof vest and helmet protected him from any harm. He did not wait for the dust raised by the explosion to settle before rushing into the vault. He found that the entire vault had collapsed from the explosives, yet there was still some room to enter where the vault door stood.
The massive vault door was indeed sturdy; despite the explosion, it had not been blown open. Although the door itself remained intact, the walls around it had collapsed, so the door had also fallen to the ground. A new problem arose with the collapsed masonry blocking the passageway into the vault.
If it had been anyone else, they would have been powerless in this situation, as the vault’s entrance was sealed shut, making it impossible to retrieve anything from inside. However, for Yan Fei, these obstacles were no issue at all because he had the Universal Space.
Yan Fei stepped forward, touched the vault door, and it disappeared in an instant, taken into the Universal Space. Then with a forceful motion, the door reappeared and flew behind him, kicking up a cloud of dust. He advanced again, taking a section of the collapsed wall into the Universal Space and using it to toss the debris behind him. Incredibly quickly, Yan Fei cleared a path, allowing himself entrance into the vault.
Although the outer walls of the vault had fallen, the inner walls were still incredibly strong and had not collapsed. In any case, this was the best outcome, sparing Yan Fei from the trouble of searching for what he needed amongst the ruins.
In the center of the vault lay a large amount of Japanese Yen banknotes, seemingly at least a few hundred billion. The blast had scattered the Yen all over the floor next to them, forming a carpet of currency. Alongside the heap of Yen, other currencies were strewn about, including US Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, and even Chinese Coins, all piled up without any way to ascertain the exact amount.
Seeing so much cash, Yan Fei swallowed hard, for he had never seen so much money in his life. But he quickly shifted his gaze; his objective that evening was not the cash but the gold and Rare Earth Metals within. So, he walked past the pile of cash and saw behind it a dazzling mountain of gold, which was the gold stored in the vault. Overjoyed, he eagerly grasped a gold bar and started placing it into the Universal Space.
Having never seen so much gold, Yan Fei had no idea how much was there; his only concern was transferring it into the Universal Space. His movements were swift, and with the convenience provided by the Universal Space, he quickly moved all the gold inside. He then activated the Drone’s virtual control screen and saw that the gold required for the Drone Upgrade was now fully satisfied.
Having fulfilled the first condition, Yan Fei immediately headed deeper into the vault, where he found several sealed boxes with elemental names on them. Upon comparison, he realized these were indeed the Rare Earth Metals he needed. He swiftly transferred these boxes into the Universal Space.
Despite the huge number of boxes taking up a significant portion of the Universal Space, when Yan Fei saw that all the necessary materials for the Drone Upgrade had been collected, he was extremely pleased; his Drone could finally receive its next upgrade.
